Reaction to Queen "Ogre Battle" Live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975

Ойын-сауық

This was a trip! Queen fans have asked us for a while to react to "Ogre Battle" live from Hammersmith Odeon in 1975. The style, the pyrotechnics, the lighting, all combined to make this a fun one, but Brian's guitar was on point in this one and stood out the most.

This was awsome ... I hope you will react to Queen's Big Spender/Jailhouse Rock ancore from the same gig (Hammersmith Odeon 1975) ... some amazing clothes stripping from Freddie (nothing inappropriate) along with incredible singing and 🎸🥁 ... But if you didn't do In the Lap of the Gods (from the same gig ... Hammersmith Odeon 1975) you must do that first... do not miss the end when Christmas presents for the audience were thrown from the ceiling 😂 ( the gig was held at the Christmas eve 😅)

Brian is one of dark haired guitarist/pianist Miyako of LOVEBITES influences and heroes. She recently went to the cinema in Tokyo to see Queen live in Montreal (I think it was). To appreciate this performance fully you really should listen to the studio original. It’s a very difficult song to pull off live, and Freddie was one of very few artists who could have made a good fist of it.

Thanks for playing & reacting to one of my absolute favorites... Freddie wrote several fairytale stories back in the day for his sister..Their fantasyland... This one he wrote early on his guitar and it evolved into magic!... They were experimenting with harmonies, layering, different sounds, etc..which made them one of the greatest tight bands ever. I LOVE both guitars on this one, and Roger's drums are absolutely powerful..The screams in the middle are Freddie and Roger later on in the song....Queen eventually changed into more of a commercial pop band later on, but I think it was from the pressure of publishers, producers, record co., etc...to be more radio friendly.... But I LOVE these younger days of Queen..Thanks again for your reaction❤

When Queen started, Freddie was the costume chooser and Zandra Rhodes was the costume designer. You can see in early Queen concerts that they all only wore black and white, sometimes all white, sometimes all black, mostly mixed between the 4 of them. Freddie said black and white was more theatrical and the white he wore a lot in the early days was so people in the back could see him better. I love that he cared about the people in the back as much as those in the front getting a great show. Great Reaction, Mr. and Mrs. Coach!! Yes, Queen II is uh-MAZE-ing. It's hard and fast. And oh, so proggy. Love it!

“Ogre Battle” is one of Queen’s many fantasy vignettes that appeared on their earlier albums, and is the first track on Side Black of Queen II. The song opens with the outro played in reverse, which eventually evolves into the song’s signature guitar riff. It’s one of the band’s heaviest tracks, and was a staple in the live shows for several years. Queen has also stated that if they had released a second single from Queen II, it would’ve been either “Ogre Battle” or ‘The Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke", respectively. Interestingly, a series of Japanese role-playing strategy video games share a name with the track- “Ogre Battle”, (or オウガバトル Ōga Batoru). Later installments of the same series include titles that reference other Queen songs, such as “Ogre Battle: The March Of The Black Queen", and “Ogre Battle: Let Us Cling Together".

Hi folks! Boy, that was a time. They came on like a freight train and this was on their *second* album. They were legit heavy metal decades before anybody noticed. (BTW Mrs. Coach, if you feel like a "Flash Gordon" moment here, imagine how you'll feel when you get to the actual "Flash Gordon" album. Oh yes, it's delightfully weird.) This show was hallowed to us Queen fans, and happily/unhappily got some of our parents on board as well. Much like my Pop's fave movies, Queen "blew 'stuff' up." They always put on a helluva show regardless of material, but that Queen II album was legendary. The first side, all soft and Doc, the second side all lightning and fire and thunder. Man, what an album. (Not to mention the inner art-the "white" version of the "Bohemian Rhapsody" shot.) Love you guys!

That double-time section was explosive (literally!). The song ended with Roger hitting the gong, but unfortunately the cameras didn't catch him. I agree the lyrics aren't their strongest point, but the music's powerful. Mercury wrote it on guitar and he used to play it really quickly, but of course he relinquished those duties to Brian so they could have the best possible sound both on stage and in the studio.

Coaches, I have reacted here before. My nameis Nativ, from IL nice to meet you guys. I have a few things to say. Firstly, I would love it if you do more album songs and or videos by Queen. I feel by listening to some of their shows you cannot really get the actual sense of the song they wrote. The 1978 Live killers show and all their shows from 1985 onwards are masterpieces. but you will never get what they achieved in the studio. You remember for example you heard this great sax ballad "just one year of love?" you can never get this sensation in a show. especially of their older work, that is built with so many vocal parts, subtle recording work on many channels and delicate 20 guitar accompaniment. you miss a lot of the magic by listening to ogre battle live. why don't you for example do the only concept album by queen in a 4-6 part video? it is their second album. you can do the whole albume in like 5 vids and get what story they did. again, I will give you another example. remember Death on 2 legs you did the lyrics vid of? you can never get this intricasy and genious in their live show. listen to this song on live killers, the 2 minute version and you will completly get me. Now, I have many recomendations of Queens studio work to give you. But I do think the scope of your Queen vision will comletly change once you will take the time to listen to some of the songs you already listend to live in an album version. I will soon write here in the channel the story about Freddie's desease, what is known about it. I am a 33 year Queen fan. Happy to assist. Please do more songs I can listen to. I am much less into those early early Queen shows. Even though I get their significance. I may not pay patrion, but will supportt here, as I do the last few months. Cheers and Halla Madrid.
