This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). The other band members are great too. I've seen Nightwish perform for the past three years. I can assure you that it is a spectacle. They are great live, you saw that at their concert in Wacken 2013. Ever heard of Simone Simons, Anneke Giersberg and many other female singers, yes, Floor is versatile but so are tens of other female singers. And if you wanna talk versatile, some life long opera singers do sht that put these girls to shame. They are trained to do only one thing all of their lives, to bend and push the limits of the human voice. So before coldly stating that Floor is the MOST versatile, you might wanna do your research. Floor cannot do everything with her voice, none of us can.

More Nightwish - you'll love it and your life will never be the same 😂🤩 And yes, they are the best I've ever seen live.

I dare to state that Floor Janssen`s versatility is unmatched.

Only heard of Nightwish in May 2021 when I signed up to watch the virtual concert. As soon as touring began again i bought tickets . Saw them 3 times in 4 days in Canada and USA May 2022 . Very small venues with no pyro or light boards,.. Amazing. Decided I needed to experience full effect so booked flight to Munich to see them December 2022 . Fantastic! So decided not to worry about debt the size of mortgage and booked to see them again this past June, once in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and next in the bands home town of Kitee, Finland . Perfect!

@@Tommuli_Haudankaivaja Tarja has a great voice and I'm grateful for what she contributed, but Floor has more styles, and it able to switch from one to the other when a song needs it. I also like her harmonies with Marko better, they jave similar styles and they complement each other beautifully. Compare the harmonies in The Islander with Floor and Anneke (they recently did this). Last but not least the pronunciation, Tarja's English is cringeworthy and totaly incomprehensible. 😖 I can only stand that for maybe one or two songs.

This was the 13th of 15 songs in this concert, Floor had been head banging, windmilling, and dancing for an hour and 10 minutes before this song. She took off one instrumental to change costumes, she started out in long leather pants. Every song in this concert is a winner, you can't miss reacting to any off them. Best band ever with a great singer. Marko (the bass player) is a pretty good singer himself. Welcome to Nightwish! You won't be disappointed. Floor sings everything classical, operatic, even some growling. She can belt with the best of them. I'm 78 and been following Nightwish for over 2 years.

Let's not forget that this was a live performance. Most bands would be happy to have this kind of performance stitched together from multiple studio recordings. The Wacken 2013 gig was legendary even in Nightwish history because every song performed there is the best performance of that song ever. My favorite from their Wacken 2013 show is the song called Ghost River.

I loved your reaction. It was exactly the same as mine when I first saw this video. Also the first song I ever heard of Nightwish. This was after I heard about Floor Jansen, the latest singer of Nightwish. I read about her in a local news paper around the time she participated in the Dutch TV show “Beste Zangers” (Best Singers). Floor was apparently from around where I live. Before that, she had been on another Dutch TV show called “De reunie” (The reunion) that has famous Dutch people go back to their schooldays along with their classmates. For Floor this was her class from the Rock Academy in Tilburg (NL), a (then) brand new vocational study for all kinds of pop/rock musicians and producers. At the time of the TV show she actually wasn’t the most famous person from that class. At least, she wasn’t in the Netherlands since her genre wasn’t that popular here. There’s a video on KZread from this TV show with English subtitles and I think it’s a good place to start to see her journey into Nightwish. Being Dutch, I should mention that Floor Jansen is the lead singer, and yes, she is from our little country.

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Having said that, I want to make it clear that I ADORE Nightwish songs, Walking in The Air by Tarja Turunen and Meadows of heaven by Anette Olzon.

They are utterly brilliant and, to many of us, Floor is the best singer out there. They are always top-notch live, and her voice just makes the whole thing very powerful and moving. Instrumentally, a stunning band too, weaving magic out of often complex music, composed by the keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen.

Somewhere in the crowd i stand there and had the best life ever. Wacken 2013 was so amazing. It was the most powerful experience of concert i ve ever had with countless Goosebombs. For me Nightwish losing Tarja was so sad and i had a feeling that was it for Nightwish. I just told me come on lets give it a try and go to this concert. Floor came on stage and opened her mouth i was totaly in tears because couldnt believe my ears. Floor touched my soul so hard. It was that moment i felt Nightwish is back with all its glory. I can recommend the whole concert to you it is a rollercoaster of feelings

You're so lucky to have experienced this actual concert. I have seen them live in LA but that wasn't on the scale of Wacken. Also I have to correct a small mistake, even though what you wrote was adorable. It's "goosebumps", not "Ghoosebombs". I like the sound of that though and I appreciate that English isn't your first language.

Welcome to the world of epic symphonic metal. This is probably the most well-known song from the set. Since Wacken is THE Metal music festival, the songs are geared towards that. But if you check the song "Storytime" from this festival and from Tampere live, you'll see just how versatile Floor is as a singer. And yes, she is the Valkyrie Goddes of metal.

I went over to Finland from Moray in Scotland to see both Nightwish shows in June and what an absolute pleasure it was see them perform, especially in their home town of Kitee, it was a truly wonderful and emotional experience. There's a new album out next year but sadly no tour, the band are taking a wee break from touring, we will though still be able to see some solo show's by certain band members in the near future, starting in February when drummer Kai plays a solo show in Helsinki; ticket booked!

"This is art!" Well, I think you got it 🙂 Nightwish's music is generally known as Symphonic Metal, but I rather say, they're a genre on their own. And their discography (including the previous bands and side projects of almost each bandmember) is a huge rabbit hole, which is definitely worth to dive into.

Yes I saw them live, last year November 28th in Amsterdam. It was unbelievable good. Extra treat was Henk Poort (Dutch opera singer) on stage doing Phantom of the Opera with Floor. I met Nightwish through Floor on Beste Zangers. I was one of the people that said metal wasn't my thing ☺️. Was I wrong because symphonic metal is GREAT. Have a nice time exploring Nightwish.

It is impossible to overstate what a deep hole you have jumped into. Nightwish is an extremely talented band that plays within themselves and lets the overall music rule. Their live performances are always better than studio because they have an extra element. They have a huge catalog going back to 1996. For the first tne years they had a different vocalist who is also very talented and should not be missed. When you have worked your way through Nightwish, there are other bands in the genre who also excellent, two of them would be Epica and Within Temptation.

Yes they are unbelievable live, Wembley 2022.

Dude, you echod my 1st reaction beautifully. This is song 13 of 15 BTW. This whole concert is a phenomenon. The band is Finnish, but Floor is Dutch. Nightwish is outstanding, we all know that! No Question ❤ another unique outstanding voice : Dimash Kudaibergen singing Ogni Pietra ( OLYMPICO) from the Arnau Concert. It's mind blowing. It would take days to give you all the basic information about Nightwish and Floor Jansen. The problem with this is that there are simply no words that do justice to the band or Floor. Nightwish concerts are not just concerts, but a journey into a completely different world of music. No other band in the world plays such complex and versatile music and even Metallica are hardcore fans of Nightwish. This is the most perfect epic live performance of all times. You grab to your heart several times in this reaction.. That is excactly what Floor and this band does to you. They grab you by the heart and sqeezes a complete meltdown out of it. Tears and goosebumps galore!! I wish you a very happy Nightwish and Floor Jansen journey. Litterally your life will encounter the next level of happiness. I know I sound like a religious priest but that is excactly what they did to me. You can't go wrong. The Nightwish army ( all fans together form a never seen before wordwide enthousiastic "movement") will guide you through songs to be heard. What sets them apart is that they do not do less songs. Their whole performance is of an epic level. And in the unlikely event that you want to listen to something else than Nightwish from now on, try out "Ayreon" as well. I consider Tuomas from Nightwish and Arjen from Ayreon the most gifted composers of modern times. Happy voyage!!!!

Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish! my favourite band ever since I heard their leaked demo somewhere around -96/97 ❤❤❤ This is one of their more epic-style songs (but not even the most epic, however their range is absolutely massive! from instrumental tributes to nature, to acoustic heart-breaking bardly ballads to extremely heavy hitting metal songs with growls ❤ Tuomas, the keyboardist is also the composer/poet/storyteller of the band for over 95% of their songs, *which are all this quality!* He is often called the Metal Mozart, a title which I think is more than deserved. Nightwish actually has both lead male and female vocalist, not just the female lead like in this songs. The vocalists have changed a lot over the time since it is such a long running band, but apart from Anette (the second female lead vocalist, with more of pop/rock style), they have all been World's top tier talent. Especially the current female vocalist (which is the one in this video) is technically one of the best female vocalists in the World, with absolutely unbelievable range/control/flexibility with her voice. Particularly professional singers are absolutely stunned when they see/hear her juggle completely opposing styles (which usually requires to be performed on different days) perfectly within one verse... and does it "effortlessly" with no mistakes and live! Marko the bassist in this performance was their main male vocalist during this era, and he is absolutely insane talent as well, and he even won the Finnish masked singer competition a few years back. I recommend following Gabriel's (spearhead of the Nightwish Army, I already noticed you had summoned him to the comments) recommendations if you want to delve deeper into reacting to this band. You can't go wrong with his advice ❤

Calling Tuomas Mozart gives wrong vibes to the listening party if they understand music history because they will assume Tuomas is once in a generation genius that creates totally new genres of music similar to Mozart. Try Metal Wagner or Metal Zimmer instead to better describe what he does.

The singer Floor Jansen is actually Dutch. The band is from Kitee, Finland. They used to have a Finnish singer Tarja Turunen but they changed the singer. There are just so many layers they put into just one song. It's incredible. Loved your reaction to this!

Welcome to the club. I'm a fan of them since 1998 i think, and symphonic metal has become my favorite genre since then. If you like the genre, other bands worth to checkout are Epica, Within Temptation (dutch) Ad Infinitum (swiss) Beyond the Black, Xandria (german) Visions of Atlantis, Edenbridge (austrian) Also "Lovebites" , and all female band from japan, are really great, though they make more power-metal, but also have some pieces that are more symphonic, and they have just become my absolute favorite band in the last years.

Proud to be born in the same town as the bass player Marco! (Marko Hietala) who is also a very good singer and also sings in some of their songs. Sadly he is not in the band anymore.

Also if you happen to be interested in hearing lapsteel guitar and Marco singing there is a song called Soita by Mika Jaakkola Feat. Marko Hietala. It is in finnish but I think it's kinda cool
