Watching your facial expressions during The Rain Songs exemplifies a true understanding of what Jimmy, Jonesy, Bonzo and Plant were trying to achieve. You not only felt it, but you get it in your heart. Few bands have that ability. Led Zeppelin just happens to be the best at it. It so warms my heart seeing a younger generation show so much respect for the best rock band of all time.

I'm 60 now, I used to turn friends onto LZ. She gives the same reactions as my friends did. A big grin. And remember, The Song Remains the Same.

The Rain song was inspired by George Harrison telling Page they didn’t have enough ballads or soft songs. So Page writes one of the best Zep ballads ever in response.

Not just one of the best zep ballads…one of the best ballads ever. And also one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written in my opinion.

Back In The Day "where's that confounded bridge" used to be a meme, like "Is there gas in the car"
The string instrument used in "Rain Song" was the mellotron. It was played by John Paul Jones who played the piano as well as the bass and is usually the forgotten/underrated member of the group. Every time I hear this song it hits like the first time I heard it. Truly beautiful. I can't wait for side 2, you'll love it.

I was going to reply, but I can't top what Anthony said! I appreciate your reactions tremendously. They warm my heart. Thanks for sharing.
Back then Zep used a keyboard called a Mellotron for sounds like strings, a mechanical machine which played recorded tapes by playing the keyboard.
"The Crunge" is totally an homage to James Brown. Robert Plant doing his best James singing style and even the mention of "finding the bridge" at the end which was a phrase James used to end many of his songs.
nothing beats a friday night with led zeppelin
Rachel, i 've watched a lot of people, couples, react to zeppelin. 90% do not get Zeppelin, they are just looking for the clicks Zeppelin bring. But YOU! You definitely are a Zep Girl! You get it! More than that, for such a young lady you have a very good knowledge and appreciation of a lot of different music. You are not fake like sooo many. Well done young lady. Don't limit yourself, enjoy any GOOD music, that moves you. I can bet you listen to and enjoy classical, as well as classic music. Have fun on your musical rollercoaster, it will carry you through the hard times of life. What a magnificent young lady you are. Don't stop, whether you are on a Stairway To Heaven, or a Highway To Hell!!
Hi Verdy. One of my favorite albums, Zeppelin demonstrating its versatility without abandoning its powerful sound. The Crunge is a funk with the signature of Led Zeppelin. It may seem funny, but I have never enjoyed listening to The Rain Song as much as I do now when I listen to it with you.😉 Thanks for the reaction.👍
8:11 The bending of the strings gives me goosebumps.
I can’t decide what I like better - watching someone discover Led Zeppelin’s portfolio, or watching a beautiful young woman from Quebec discover Led Zeppelin’s portfolio…
She again nailed it with the acoustic/electric guitar combo magic. Zeppelin themselves said it was their secret sauce. My favorite track from this album is on Side 2. It’s one of their darkest, mysterious tracks and I can’t wait for the reaction.

@@happymethehappyone8300 I might have to agree with you on that, Planet Caravan is definitely one of my favorites if not the best, but they did some really great songs, depends on my mood, laid back or wanna pound my head into a wall lol
With this album it’s like they matured and expanded their sound and delivered one of their best albums. They always included dynamics in their songs. Fast and slow and loud and quiet parts. The classic example is Stairway but there are many other songs that have soft and hard passages. And Plants voice is unique here. He just lets it all hang out. The result is an incredible collection of Zep songs.
Yes....Yes.....YES.............It's hard to pick a favorite Zep album...........but................Houses of the Holy......is a great choice!!!!!!! This 72 year old will be smilin.....and rockin....til the the last song!!!!!!!!

Never liked the production.
There were many, many great bands over the 60's 70's & 80's decades, and then there are those few that are on another level of which LZ is one of them 🙏
Rain Song is one of my favorites from this album. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have an amazing version with the London Orchestra as well.
memories of those days in altered states of mind relaxing to songs like this in the wee hours of the morning after partying all day.....
Zep went prog on this album and tried out even more different styles than before. The Rain Song, the best and most famous track of the album (and one of their top songs generally), was an answer of Jimmy Page (or Bonzo, depends on the source) to his friend George Harrison as the latter told him, he has a great band, but they can't write a propper ballad. So Jimmy did it. The intro of Rain Song is indeed the chords of Something. The strings are a mellotron. JPJ was a great arranger and producer with orchestra but here like in Kashmir he used a mellotron, made famous by King Crimson on their first album.
This is one of my favorite songs by them and probably one of the most ambitious musically for them. And yeah the whole part about the bridge at the end but if you've ever played in bands and you're jamming on something really cool you can't quite figure out how to end it or maybe you're playing it live for the first time and you tried five different endings in practice and you thought you sold on one but nobody remembers it, etcetera, laugh. It rings so true. And it's hilarious. The whole song is hilarious. He keeps saying that he can't tell you anything tell you anything, and then he proceeds to tell you all about it. And then he reveals that he's talking about his girl but he's not going to tell you one other thing not one other thing except there's one thing you really got to know and and he tells you something else and and he tells you something else. It's absolutely hilarious and it is a loving nod of the hat to James Brown of course.
Besides led Zeppelin 1V, this is my favourite Album Houses of the Holly..🎙️🎧🎸👊✌️✌️

Over the hills and far away, features a six string acoustic, and a 12 string Guitar over lapped.
I've always been into the harder rocking Zep songs until watching you react to the Rain song. My heart just began to melt. Now I think I like the softer songs as much as the rockers. Thank you so much 💓.
Rain song is insane--you keep thinking wow, this just gets more beautiful…and that feeling goes on for the entire song. The ending is maybe one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard in music, and it just caps off 7 minutes (or whatever) of stunning, soaring beauty. And then all it does is lead into THAT intro from Over the Hills and Far Away. Sheesh.
This was zeppelin’s most progressive rock sounding record i feel

One of the most fascinating album sides in the LZ collection. The Song Remains the Same is one of my favorite songs. I am so glad that you got to listen to it.
My sisters band in the 70s was named the bridge, so everyone would say have you seen the bridge
Fifty years since the first time I heard this album and it's still magnificent. The Rain Song is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful songs in rock history. Definitely in my top ten favorite songs of all time.
A truly magnificent album! Dont take so long between albums! 😊 Violins cellos...no JPJ!! Yes you heard brushes on the drums.
This is one of my favorite Zeppelin albums! When I die I want The Rain song and Stairway to Heaven played at my funeral!

To me one of the best rock songs ever. The music is pure joy. I can't help but love it.
I am super impressed with your ability to dissect the instrumentation parts. Great job!

Nothing better than heading to the record store on release day, seeing the new Led Zeppelin album on display in the front racks, bringing it home, unwrapping the plastic, slipping that pristine vinyl out of the sleeve, and putting it on for the first time without having heard a single note until that second.
String sounds are from a keyboard called "Mellotron." Played by John Paul Jones.
Verdy, You ma' Lady, are an Excellent Listener. I remember when this album dropped. I was thinking they can't possibly match or top their first 4 albums but Houses of the Holy fits perfectly into their repertoire. I so enjoy watching you take this journey through Zeppelin's catalog. Many of young people these days just don't appreciate the quality of music from this era. This is what I grew up on. Please soak this music into your soul. you will never regret it. ENJOY ! You are in for a real treat when you get to Physical Graffiti ~The Smirking Guru.
👍🇬🇧❤MY FAVORITE ZEPPELIN LP 🎸 BEST BAND EVER !!!!!!
John Paul Jones, all those beautiful orchestral , and piano sounds are his.
I want you to know that I think you are the best you tube music reactor I’ve seen. You’re obviously naturally musical and your reactions are so real and pure it’s fun to watch. Now that you’ve come this far with zep you need to watch the movie “the song remains the same.” It’s a Madison square garden show from 1973 and it’s great. When I was a kid in the 80s a local theater played it every Saturday night. I saw it dozens of times. Side note: Robert Plant had throat surgery in 1972 and you can hear that his voice has lost a bit of power. Listen to 8-31-69 from Dallas, TX or any early show to hear why he eventually needed the surgery. Howling.
Great choice. I had my first car when this came out and it spend a lot of time in the 8 track player with the top down on warm summer nights. You will love the live version from MSG in '73.
I am a grown ass man who has been listening to this song for 40 years and have loved it forever and I’m sitting here crying watching your reaction.
Stage 2 Zeppelin. Robert lost his voice and had surgery, results from 3 hard years of touring. You start noticing more effects on Robert's voice, in the studio. John Paul and Bonzo were getting stronger. Jimmy was partying a bit too much. Physical Graffiti. Well Done, Verdy! Merci.
I feel quite fortunate I grew up listening to the great rock and roll bands of the late 60's and beyond. Rush, Zeppelin, Floyd, Yes, Genesis and others. While I have no doubt they all wanted to be popular and become famous to some degree, these bands were pioneers in their own way. It was about musicianship and live performances, creativity and experimentation. The complete opposite of the MTV generation and beyond. Nice reaction. It's awesome to watch people react to these giants of rock!
The Rain Song was our first dance at our wedding.
What your hearing on the Rain Song is John Paul Jones on the Mellotron. Always a Great reaction!
Your Rain Song reaction was like mine 30 odd years ago when i was getting into Zeppelin whilst my mates were getting into grunge. Ultimately, they became Zeppelin fans too.
Verdy, look up info on Robert Plant's son Karac dying at age 5, in 1977 I think, while Zeppelin was on tour in the U.S. and it's impact on him and his relationship to the band, & life in general ...... & maybe review some of those songs he wrote in the aftermath -- these are the ones I found online: “All My Love” - Led Zeppelin’s 1979 album “In Through The Out Door”; “Blue Train” from Page & Plant’s 1998 album “Walking Into Clarksdale”; “I Believe” from Plant's 1993 solo album “Fate Of Nations”
The Song Remains the Same is probably the most underated Zeppelin song in my opinion. I think it's their best track...It was the first thing I played when I got my first decent Hi-Fi set up to test It. The Rain Song and No Quarter are also awesome tracks
I love music where your attention/appreciation can drift between instrumental parts, and each is compelling and satisfying.
I remember this, I bought this record way back in high school in my freshman year. My favorite version is from their movie "The Song Remains the Same" that came out in 1975. It used concert footage from the 3 night stand at Madison Square Garden in 1973. It was flowed into "The Rain Song" to make an epic 13 minute masterpiece.

John Paul Jones never gets enough love here.
The final song on side 1, is basically a cover version of James Brown. But with different words, and singing style. Where's that bridge? (James Brown would tell the band to "take it to the bridge" when it was time to change the groove of the music and chords.
The Rain Song is my favorite Zeppelin song.
You chose the right word: perfection!
The acoustic guitars in the beginning of "Over the Hills" are one six string and one twelve string guitar and together make a beautiful voice of expression. The first two songs on this side of the album are written like classical music, with movements, repeating themes, and a structure more complex than most other Rock songs.
You nailed the hip-hop connection. The whole genre pretty much sprung from James Brown's funk.
Bohmans iconic drum sound, started with Ludwigs most expensive snare drum.
It's a mellotron, used extensively in The Moody Blues "Days of Future Passed'.
Over The Ills and Far Away. Love your accent lmao. 🙏🍁
Love you verdy... Saludos from argentina
Very smart young lady. It’s fun to get her point of view.
I'm loving your reaction to this and can see the emotions it makes you feel. You are great!
Love your intuitive, intelligent reactions to the great Zep. Keep up the good work!
The backing "instruments" on the Rain Song come from the Mellotron, a totally cool analogue keyboard based instrument that would simulate strings. Used most famously on Strawberry Fields Forever.
Wow - Johnny Marr heard the little slide between couplets in the Rain Song .. How Soon Is Now is slower but eerily similar.
Verdy, nice channel... the sounds you've herad on THE R|AIN SONG is both strings of quartet (maybe a sextet) ochestra and keyboards, synthsizers and piano, the keybords played by Jonh Paul Jones, the bassist of Led Zeppelin and he made the arrangement of orchestra...
You have found this record at the perfect time in your Led Zeppelin journey. It’s a beautifully young/mature record by a great band.

... all will be revealed
The Rain Song is one of the greatest songs ever recorded, IMO. Though they might seem a long way apart, I'd suggest checking out Porcelina by Smashing Pumpkins. It has a lot of the same sort of elements.
ALRIGHT! The first two songs were originally designed to be first an instrumental, then the second song to have lyrics. But Robert Plant came up with a vocal deliver so strong, belting it out high pitched with power and soul, that from then on, it was a show stopper. On their last North America tour, and their last concerts in Europe, it openend the show.
I loved The Rain Song so much I spent a while learning how to play it on guitar (I love weird guitar tunings Jimmy uses in some of their songs). I still use this song to warm up my fingers after not playing the guitar in a while.
Rachel, just a little side note, Rain Song was written by Jimmy Page in response to George Harrison saying that he couldn't write a ballad. Thanks George!
My favorite Zeppelin and I think their best, peak realization of their sound. Find three better song openers in succession than this. Incredible. And I think you’re exactly right; this is a triumph of melding acoustic and electric guitar to perfection, and then building around that.
Hi Verdy, listen to The Song Remains the Same / Rainsong from the 1973 Madison Square Garden performance. You will love seeing Jimmy doing these songs live.!
спасибо, смотреть как я выглядел в 89м, когда открыл для себя LZ/// many thanx to u kind stranger/ кто то из нпс диабло так говорил.. я фразу запомнил навсегда)
Over the years I have 3 Zep albums that have been my favs. Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence. Of course everyone loves Zep IV but it was played into the ground on Rock radio stations everywhere. Jimmy Page is the king of riffs, no doubt.
Great choice and reaction VERDY! It was good to see you smile so much. Additionally you are perhaps the best air guitar on YT. Can't wait for side 2 reaction from you. Keep on exploring Led Zeppelin and other classic rock music so we can see your big smile. Carpe Diem .
Yes, the Rain Song sounds like rain.
The Rain song is top three from LZ imo.
in the rain song, That's John Paul Jones playing the Meletrone.
Song Remains The Same: Robert's voice is sped up, which is why I think it sounds a bit silly at some points. JPJ's bass work is amazing, though. Rain Song: for a long time I thought they were real strings, but it's actually a very smartly arranged and recorded Mellotron; the bass is a real double-bass though. Crunge: I think the idea was to do a James Brown-type number ("take it to the bridge!") that was actually impossible to dance to.
Brings back the early 1970's for me! LONG time ago now! 8Tracks in our muscle cars listening to this and other great albums.
Welcome back to Zep! So fun to watch others affirm their love of these gents. "...the magic of Led Zeppelin", indeed!
