Hi!!. I subscribed to your page through Journey, especially Steve Perry, who in my opinion is one of the greatest interpreters that have ever existed and is highly underestimated. After looking at countless criticisms of Journey's performances, I haven't come across any that say Steve isn't voice privileged. I am also a fan of Mercury and even so it seems to me that it is debatable in terms of vocal capacity. Mercury was a great Showman but Perry for me is the voice. Many judge Steve for not having the reaches of before, but what would have happened if Mercury had to suffer the same judgment today? It's not fair. Steve should be recognized for what he left us and what he can provide now. He did not die and he did not have such a controversial life, he did not have a movie and the new generations know him. But, that does not detract from his unparalleled contribution to music. Hopefully and the new generations can know about him. I thank you so much for taking the time to get to know him and I hope you make him known because he deserves it. Thank you. I'm from México SO sorry for the grammar mistakes.

You can't go wrong with any song from this concert. They played newer ones from the album and some older ones that had the crowd on its feet and singing along.

  • @marshabailey1121

Neal hated this song and didn't want it on the album; there wasn't much of a guitar part for him and it was soft. He tried to distract and sabotage Steve he was laying down the vocal tracks. But Steve and Jon fought to keep it on the album. Neal didn't want to play it live; when they finally did, the crowd went crazy. This is why women threw roses - and other things - at Steve Perry in concerts and why they started to show up in droves at Journey concerts. journey is one of the bands that pioneered the power ballad and this was one of the first. Steve is flawless; never loses his cool and oversings or goes off key, just relaxed and perfect with that lovely soft note at the end. Most guys can't keep still enough to accomplish that, but with Steve it was all about the performance and making it as perfect as he possibly could. And I think you'll agree that this performance was pretty darn perfect.

Jonathan Cain wrote part of a song with The Babys; he showed it to John Waite, who was not impressed. With Journey, Perry was talking about wanting to create ballads. Cain played what he had, then the two of them finished the song. Schon was not sure how the song would be received. They used the song in a concert ( before it had been released as a single ) and "the place became unglued" ( Schon's phrasing )

Oh boy. Today I was just working on some school work. I’m 17 and I’m an absolute fan of classic rock (And A7X) So here I am getting some work done working with the teacher on a laptop. Open Arms suddenly and randomly plays in my mind. I plugged in my earbuds and listened to it. Suddenly my emotions show me like I was half-sad and half happy. My left eye looks like it was gonna water and shed out a tear. Didn’t happen FYI. Felt like I just wanted to cry and sing along to this song though I was working at a desk with a teacher haha. My mother absolutely loves this song. She was born in 74’ along with my dad who’s also born in 1974. God I thank Journey for making such a memorable and greatest song ever.

I can’t count the number of times my high school self sung this at the top of my lungs in my bedroom like I was a Journey back up singer. They were a huge staple of my childhood. Thanks for the memories.

The fact that they never had a number one hit is astonishing. This may be a testament to the music of that era.

In the early days, MTV actually didn’t have enough promo vids to show, hence bands having video singles from the same gig.👍😎

I have to say, I love your reactions as much as I do the music! You have an innocent intensity that puts you above the others.

"It's over already." Yep, that was how I felt about this song. I got Goosebumps, which were all over on my skin, and then the song was over.

In Journey's case, they didn't do concept videos until Separate Ways. So, yes, this was the official video.

Can you imagine if Steve & Freddie were able to sing live together as a duet?? GAAAAH! That would’ve been absolute heaven on earth.
