A lot of people in the horror fandom are easily pleased with gore, to the point that they forgive movies like When Evil Lurks for making NO SENSE whatsoever. "Don't shoot them with guns" "Don't use electric lights" and other completely arbitrary rules that the movie never elaborates on.

I absolutely hated Knock at the Cabin. Legit left the theater angry. It feels like M. Night Shyamalan is so desperate to match his early success that everything that's followed has been a predictable inferior version of his previous films. We get it, twist ending. They're not shocking when everything leading up to it is mediocre.

While it is not a hard-core horror movie, Haunted Mansion was my favorite movie of the year. As a diehard fan of the ride, I love how much respecct they paid to it in the film and I thought all of the actors did a great job. As for FNAF, I thought the movie was fun. Not a great movie, by any means, but I had a good time watching it.

I thought it was pretty decent at first but I felt it dragged somewhat and I didn't liked the ending at all. I also didn't liked Scream 6, the plot armor and the writing in general were pretty weak in comparison of the previous movies (I did enjoyed the bodega and subway scene though)

Scream 6. Below average. Beau is afraid good for about an hour and a half. Evil Dead Rise solid, not as good as one before it. Spoken like facts, but just opinions. Hhheeyyy! Thanks for the react. A more accurate wording for my unpopular opinion would be that 2022 is viewed by people (including myself at one time) through rose-colored glasses because of how starved we were for horror in the many years prior. There are a few fantastic films you referenced and then some I didn't see but there were several that were just average to kinda okay, but I guess that comes down to personal taste. And I think the same about the horror movies of 2023. I know I'm in the minority, but hey, I think we had two solid years of horror flicks in a row and I'm looking forward to a third.

I think Godzilla -1 is the best movie of the year, I'm not talking horror, just best movie overall. I know you had the small rant about people can't tell other people what is horror and what's not, I feel this is mostly True, BUT I find it annoying that people are talking about Beau is afraid as a horror. I honestly think it's just a dark comedy/drama. Just because Ari Aster is known for his horror works doesn't mean it was a horror. Just like how people act like A24 is blumhouse or something. They do other things! You did mention that. Also, I really liked When Evil Lurks, probably one of my favorite horror movies this year, not because it was so shocking or something, but because it really surprised me, and I thought it was a hot take on possession films. Your opinion on this movie is exactly how I feel about hereditary. I remember seeing that and being like, this is the scariest thing to people because they have no idea and are just normie movie people. Otherwise it's been done and done better. The most frightening thing about that movie was what happened to the sister and then the horrible family dynamic afterwards. That was the true nightmare stuff. You should definitely watch Becky first before Wrath of, watching this it seemed you weren't aware this was a sequel, I could be wrong.

The way in which I look at it is that the portrayed mood or state hits me hardest when it resides in the overall vibe and style of the movie, book or whatever, and that it is very rare for movies to do this, to get the funding, I think Aster doesn’t get due acknowledgement for his risky endeavor.

I never heard of The Wrath of Becky but that's one I'd definitely check out! I personally consider Child's Play 2019 and M3gan to be equal films as far as quality and enjoyability go.. both are like 2.5 star films for me, which is basically in the middle or indifferent.. don't love em but don't hate em, not good but not bad..

I will forever be wondering what could have been with knock at the cabin, the book had so many excelent twists and spoiler warning, but killing the daughter in the book was both a pivotal and heartbreaking moment for me. Instead they chose to kill one of the dads and i know that as a gay man i dont speak for the whole community but to me it felt like they were only peroetuating the bury your gays trope. The only plus i can day about the movie is that it brought a high budget queer horror film to your average audience and i hope we'll get more, but i also hope future films learn from knock at the cabins shortcomings.

C0çáíñe Bear was the most disappointing as only the ambulance scene lived up to its trailer. When Evil Lurks is the best horror though (could be biased because I'm a hispanophone). i liked megan good popcorn movie when i have nothing else to watch but im not a big fan of childs play film because i feel like its not chucky at all they change everything and im not a fan but that being said i dont mind it existing as i appreciate people taking a risk with remakes it just didnt work for me. they could of took a different spin like maybe they made it so the ai doll was created by the Charles lee rey character and he had programmed it to kill. so change it so charles lee ray is some evil tech killer instead

And oh yeah.. I'm kinda with Ghostface not having a gun.. it's fine when we see Ghostface unmasked with a gun, but Ghostface in full costume with a gun just feels aesthetically wrong IMO.. I don't believe it happened before Scream 6 unless I'm trippin..

2022 was a BANNER HORROR YEAR! 2023 was eh. Not a fan of BEAU IS AFRAID and hated KNOCK AT THE CABIN. Didn’t bother watching DEMETER. THE WRATH OF BECKY was so good! Also the first one, BECKY.

I missed leaving mine for the video. But here it is: 1) Talk To Me is mid. It was just fine. The main character was annoying af. I wasn't rooting for anybody. But I give it props for the new take on possession. 2) Cobweb is just Barbarian and REC. Another creepy skinny woman locked up movie. 3) Smile is just silly. I did not find it scary at all. The monster looked silly. The whole thing was vanilla. 4) Contemporary writers don't know how to write a good whodunnit slasher that keeps you guessing until the end. 5) James Wan needs to run away from Blumhouse.

These will not be popular: VHS85, Hellhouse LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor, Saw X, Knock at the Cabin, everyone liked 'Evil Dead Rise'. I tolerated 'Talk To Me'. I didn't like the lack of clarity in the final act.

Ugh I completely missed this community post lol. My hot take is pretty common, but I thought Talk to Me was incredibly overrated. The story was interesting, but the filmmaking completely took me out of the film. Poor cinematography and atrocious use of shallow focus in my opinion. And the pacing was just not it for me either

Scream 5 and 6 to me were really overhyped. One of the things that made the Craven quadrilogy was that signature Craven charm. Because Wes was attached to those 4 films there was consistency in the quality.(yes I think scream 3 is underrated). Scream 5 felt more based upon the nostalgia and Scream 6 felt like a forced cash grab on Scream 5's success.

If Scream 6 is your best Horror movie of 2023 you need to watch more movies or I'm going to have to politly ask you to walk into traffic. Furthermore Scream 2 is the best sequel possably better then the original. Joel is the GOAT!

If you plan to read Dracula in 2024, highly recommend subscribing to Dracula Daily. They email you the section of the book that takes place on each day, from May 3 to November 7. I read it that way in 2023 and would honestly do it again. 🖤

I think Ari Aster would be more of a liked director if his movies had an editor that actually knew wtF they were doing. Why does it take 3 hrs to tell story that can easily be finished in less than 80 minutes?

Kylie, another exceptional vid. I pretty much agree w/ all your opinions. And love your anti capitalist opinions too. Anyway, what one likes is, well, very subjective. What movies some people disdain others find to be fantastic. Again, utterly subjective. Kylie, keep up the great work.
