Most if not all K Pop rappers can sing. They learn to sing as trainees. I've notice though that if as a singer they have a low voice or out of the norm for K Pop singers, they end up being the rapper in a group (if they get that far). Most rappers have wonderful singing voices that are distinctive from the usual angelic style.

When Hwasa's not singing live, you won't see her moving her lips. If she's not singing she's not singing, she's bad at pretending.

Every time someone doesn't understand if Hwasa is singing live or not I laugh so hard cause she is just so good that people can't understand if she sings live or not. You will get a lot more of that confusion as you become a more hardcore moomoo Austin😂 Tip: When Hwasa doesn't sing live she just doesn't open her mouth. You can see that in her Maria stages where she had a broken back so singing live the whole performance wasn't very easy. So yeah here she was singing live.

5:00 (I think Austin correctly doubted it) and 6:31-6:36 were a ton of back vocals and pretty iffy from what I can tell, but she's definitely singing live

Hwasa and in fact just all of mamamoo it’s always really hard to tell if they’re singing when you’re new cause they sound exactly the same as the recorded version, but once you watch their two stages where they had to lipsync it will be really obvious cause they can’t do it all and give it away very easily

Mamamoo can't lip-synch to save their lives (Wheein excepted), but they are fantastic live singers and always give entertaning renditions of their songs, such as ad-libs etc.

They are 1. about 50 years old 2. about 40 years old 3. about 30 years old 4. about 20 years old Their prime time is a different. So interesting

Yeah, JungHwa must've been extremely nervous to perform while dancing, so you can clearly see her fear of failing coming through just like it did in the studio. For years she actually thought she would never sing again, and she even said this might be her last time. I hope she becomes more confident in her beautiful voice and creates more music. Like the other members told her, younger idols see her as a legend and want to be like her, especially singing even in their 50's.

Mostly groups with this kind of concept, only the rapper always has the microphone especially if there's a lot of movements in choreo. The thing is, Mamamoo hates using headmic even tho they tried using it for the first time in HIP era, bc it's kinda uncomfortable for them.

Lee Hyo Ri's slaying the performance at her age, after many years of hiatus and nobody's talking about her. So sad. T T

i'm laughing bc hwasa is really singing live, mamamoo is known to confuse us if theyre lipsyncing or not. there were even times moos were confused to the point mamamoo need to do adlibs and mistakes to prove to us that they always sing live. thus, having the audience joke that they eat CDs in daily basis lol. if you see that 2-3 times that they tried lipsyncing in, you can tell that they are so bad at it. that what made moos trust them to always sing live, bc you will definitely know if they are lipsyncing. they only used head mics in hip era but most of the time they use handmics, they love handmics way more.

Refund Sisters really slayed it on the stage, and they all sang live (even Uhm Jung Hwa, but you can tell sometimes her vocal falters a bit so you can hear the track, which is understandable due to her history as a cancer survivor). Btw, Hwasa always sing live; she doesn't lip sync, and in some performances she'd rather let the backup track play than do the lip sync. In this performance she's definitely singing live.

Yes, Jessi actually started as a solo singer but started rapping in the show unpretty rapstar where she kind of blew up and became more famous. So a lot of people think she’s a rapper when she in fact she was was originally a vocalist, she was even confused why she was casted in that show without being a rapper previously. Also it’s crazy she’s singing so well when the night before this performance she was in the hospital for exhaustion. Uhm jung hwa is iconic basically Madonna of Korea, brought the sexiness to Korean music (and she’s 51 right now!) she had surgery for thyroid cancer and was scared to reach certain notes after. But after she gains her confidence back I think she can belt out her sweet vocals again. Hyori (41) is also an icon in Korea, she was part of Fin.k.l one of the most popular first gen girls groups (along with SES) she also was a sexy queen and many newer idols like Hyuna looked up to her as a role model.

Man-ok(Um Jung-Hwa): As you know she had a thyroid cancer and had to have a surgery. After that she couldn't speak normally and so she got a fear of singing. So Jimmy(Jae-suk) hired a vocal trainer to Man-ok and all the members cheer Man-ok up to get her best vocal back together. Plus, Jessi is the only one holding the physical MIC, that usually means in K-pop is she's the main vocal or rapper or both at the same time. You can see that pretty often that only one or two members in group are getting the actual MICs (as a part of performance and showing off).

Jung-Hwa went almost 10 years thinking she'd never sing professionally again. She really only got 3 months from being named dropped by Hyori to this stage performance.

Oof. That early? So either she just woke up a couple of hours ago and couldn't fully warm up her voice. Or the more probable option, she didn't sleep at all and her voice got tired out before she could perform. And then the stress of performing adds to it as well. Aargh her vocal chords must have been super tense. She really did well, considering everything. I hope it didn't stress or bum her out too much. She deserves to be happy.

I just wish she didn't injure herself again. Watching her 'Maria' performance give me physical pain on my back seeing all the patch on her back and she danced with so much power makes me worry it might be dangerous

The oldest (red hair) is ledgendary, indeed! Generation 1 pop singer, LOL. Name is Um JungWha. And you're right! It was hard for her to get back to this level of singing. She did have to re-learn everything and still can't hit the notes she used to love (and sang with ease in the past) 😢 I do believe it took her a lot of courage for her to be in this temporary group, and had a lot of practice just for this. She did have some emotional roller-coasters due to her voice during this short journey as a Refund Sister (believe just 2-3 months from start to end? Not too sure). But she inspired a lot of people through sharing her journey!! Admirable 😊👍 And yup, the two older ones (Um JungHwa and Lee HyoRi) used to be big as singers but don't perform regularly these days. But they're both iconic ❤️❤️ You know what? 4 generations of Korean singers as a group. Refund Sisters will forever be iconic in my book. THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THEM AND SHARING YOUR REACTION!!! 🤗

Mamamoo really hate using performance/headmic in case you didn't know about that, they always prefer to use their handheld mics whenever they were performing. It's kinda their trademark and you can quickly catch on if they're lip-sync because they're not used to do lip-sync at all, it's so uncomfortable for them and they're also really really bad at it.

Please, one day listen to some Uhm Jungwha music. She's a 90's icon in Korea pop music. She released: 5 albums between 1993/ 99. 4 albums between 2000/ 06. In 2010, she was diagnosed in thyroid cancer and had surgery. She spend almost 7 years without singing, focusing more on her acting career. (Yes, she's also an actress) Her last album was released in 2017.

Sometimes when you see Mamamoo live performance and think it must be a lip sync because it's way too perfect and then there was no voice just because someone forget to sing their part or here comes a ad-lib then you know it's not a lip sync. Usually there is always something small but you will find it's not a sync.

Like many people are saying, if Hwasa isn't singing live she doesn't open her mouth. In fact Mamamoo in general suck at lip synching, which is why they sing live vocals most of the time. I watched the whole broadcast and in my opinion they were the best performance of the night. Someone said in Instagram they were "like mothers coming to send their kids to bed" and that's exactly what it seemed like. I love the fact that everything that's made from this project is being donated.

It's interesting that Jessi's favorite songs are ones like Numb, Arrived, etc. that are heavy vocal songs but she always gets attention for her raps. Her voice is very unique, very flavorful and great to listen to. But her raps are stupidly good so I understand why people gravitate to those. I still enjoy listening to her vocals though.

I LOVED reaction! This performance was AMAZING! I think Hwa Sa and Lee Hyori might have worn the head mics to make Uhm Jung-hwa feel more comfortable wearing one. Since she was nervous about performing again, having to sing, and remember choreo. was actually surprised to see hwasa with the head mic... the first time mamamoo ever used those was for "hip" and none of the girls liked them at all, though they were using the bigger, more expensive head mics then. solar and wheein have both used this style of head mic before, solar during part of her solo stage in the four seasons f/w concert and wheein at an award show when she was singing with members of two other groups since you mentioned being unsure of live vocals or not and some of the comments mention the fact that mamamoo has only lipsynced twice in their careers, i'd like to suggest you check those performances out at some point. just to see what you think of them. just be aware that they're from kbs, which is fond of copyright blocks and strikes... so there is that, unfortunately the first one is their performance of "new york" on music bank on 2016/09/30. this whole show was held outdoors and kbs wasn't confident in their sound system or engineers, afraid the sound of traffic would drown out any live performance so they asked all the artists at the show to lip sync. mamamoo and ailee both mentioned how awkward it was for them afterwards and the fans of both tend to use their performances as a way to lightheartedly tease them the second was their performance of "4x4ever" and "hip" at the kbs song festival. again, kbs asked all the artists to lip sync because...again... they didn't have faith in their own sound system (which is just craziness to me)

The Hwasa singing looks a lot like the track. But that's a feature of mamamoo lol. They sing so perfectly on stage that you don't know if it's the track or they're singing (but know that it's always them singing because they suck at lipsync lol). Lee Hyori sounded really good, Jessi was just perfect, because of a cancer Jung Hwa has trouble singing but she was amazing. The stage presence of all was impeccable. Kpop queens for sure.

Hwasa is always singing... her voice is so good that it merges with the back audio, well that happens with all the mamamoo girls. When they aren't singing, they never lip-sync. they would rather keep their mouth shut and let the back vocals play instead of lip-syncing... That's mamamoo for us....

I really laughed when he thought that Hwasa is not singing live. I'm also like that when I'm a new moomoo and first time watching them live. 'Cause tbh, all of MMM members sounds exactly like the recorded version so it's kinda confusing at first.

There was an episode where Uhm Junghwa cried about this. She have been wanting to perform, but she was just afraid because of what happened to her and also because of her age. That's why she got afraid of singing, even if she wanted to perform. This show was a great help for her to start singing again. Yoo Jaesuk (Jimi Yoo) even got her a vocal coach and paid for 10 lessons straight out of his own card, just to help her get back to it. We're already so amazed that she chose to perform live. And even if it wasn't powerful, we understand. Heck, even if she decided to lipsync, we'll still be fine about it since it's already an amazing feat. She proved everyone that age doesn't matter. As for Hwasa, she's completely singing live. This is also why ppl always tell that Mamamoo "eats their cds" because unless you hear their adlibs, there's not much difference between the the studio recording and their live performance. And like what people in the comments say, Mamamoo RARELY lipsyncs. I think it was only once or twice? And they actually failed miserably lmao they're so bad at it that you could see how awkward they are. ALSO, Mamamoo uses hand mic 99% of the time, except for when they challenged themselves with a harder choreography in Hip and chose to wear head mics. They always complained about it tho lmao
