I’ve always found this performance to be so raw and emotional. I feel every word she’s singing. There are moments throughout where her voice sounds like she’s about to cry.

But the performance of this song from Homecoming '99 is a miracle for me...the voice was so amazing!!

i love it when she struggle reaching high notes and belting, making me appreciate her more. live!!!

This period was full of negative energy for her and I feel it affected her voice for a period of time. The upcoming movie, the record company, the hyped up Virgin record deal, being thwarted and betrayed at every turn. The pressure must have been immense emotionally. For every down moment there is an upside- the coming of TEOM!! All those problems would soon be cast aside and she would rise again. She knew her skills an artist and singer were HERS.

I am obsessed with this performance. I always like to remind people that she had just recovered from food poisoning. There was a huge rumor/prediction in the NYC area that she would back down from performing at Divas. That is one of my favorite outfits as well. She delivered and beyond!!! 💯

There was an MTV special during this era where Mariah and Da Brat are riding around Vegas in a Limo and going to an In & out burger and other places while running down their favorite music videos of the 90's. Idk if its available anywhere but thinking about it now, after reading the memoir, this TV special was probably so liberating for her to be able to just ride around, sign autographs, say hello to fans all over Vegas without Tommy sending his private mafia to hunt her down. Idk if this is available but it would be a great video to watch from this era , as she is finally allowed to have fun and be herself. We all had heard about the burger scandal so to see her go get a burger with Da Brat, on MTV almost seems like a message to Tommy somehow

This song was huuuuge here in the Philippines back then, you hear it on most radio stations a lot, singers here sang it on musical variety TV shows, topped the MYX countdown and my school friends and I sang it nonstop amongst ourselves. I love her look there, she's a GODDESS! A very talented Goddess at that ;)

I love and appreciate this live performance so much! This was my fav song for so long, but the one that gave me strength when I really needed it was ‘ No ways tired/ Can’t give up Now’, it was magical for me and helped me to get through the worst times, never thought the pain that she lived to write these songs.... Fly like a bird is as well one of my favs.... but it has some happy feeling that makes it to me like liberating

This is by far the best song that has ever been written. The message behind it is so profound, this song has helped so many people including me. I Love you Mariah ❤️

I love her moving and running around. We don't get that at all anymore.

I know what you mean, I agree, when she goes down on her knees, I'm moved every time (throws hands in the air). As a singer, a cold or struggling with negative emotions can affect your voice, but Mariah's resilience, faith and strength just helped her through, and even with the raspy voice still delivers an outstanding performance.

Yes such a very special song. One of my absolute favorites as well. I feel like it wasn’t performed live enough. Most of the performances available out there seem too tweaked for me and almost as if the big run downs are the ones from the album that are edited into her live performances and not really performed live. In all cases, thanks for a great video as always.

I think I’ve heard that / read that a few times. I think that was definitely part of it but didn’t she start it in relation to her problems with Columbia after her divorce?
