    You're right about the density thing. I know a girl with type 4 with low density. And she can get slick buns with SHEA BUTTER. LIKE SHEA BUTTER. And since her hair is fine, her hair can get easily weighed down and clumps when she uses products. Now my hair is 4c , it is fine but it's thick, and nothing is going to neatly slick or show a curl pattern unless I use gel or something that is made for clumping. Texture and density is VERY important when it comes to 4c hair.

    Thats exactly why I'm trying to grow mine caz I cannot get a slick back pony tail in the back. It's so hard to slick back. Then there is my friend with slightly thin short 4c hair and she can get a slick back bun while I can't. We are both jealous of each other's hair lol

    100% I know people get mad when people say this, but honestly type 4 hair isn't really * that * hard to deal with. Yeah it takes more time and effort than other hair types, but our ancestors have been doing their hair for centuries. The main reason why we have so many problems caring for our hair now is mainly because of colonialism, slavery, and white standards of beauty that kept us from learning our hair when we were younger.

  • @emndiaye9019

    @emndiaye9019

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@georgezakhia125 I agree! When I see those day long wash days (sometimes a day and a half!!!), a lot of that extra time is spent trying to get their hair to look as far away from how it naturally looks as possible, and then protecting their hair from all the extra manipulation. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing but I have a problem with people making it seem like it’s a REQUIREMENT to do all that when you’re natural. It’s okay to just wear our hair the way it looks when it’s healthy. I exclude protective styles from this but that should be a given considering people aren’t getting box braids and such every week

    You’re so right about not knowing anything about YOUR OWN HAIR when you’re 4c or have type 4 hair. At least for me. I’m 23 and I only started learning about how to care for my hair about 7 years ago. My mom only knew about perms and silk presses. I had to big chop 3 times from jacking up my hair as I was learning it but I’m almost bra strap length now. I’ve gone from being a product junkie to having my 3 staple products. Takes time but it does get easier.

    @@misskrayola Haha. Learning how to touch my hair less WHILE STILL keeping it moisturized was a game changer. I was always manipulating my natural hair (twist outs, high puffs) to keep it looking perfect for work/ school and I didn’t moisturize enough because moisturizing it would “ruin the look”. Very difficult complex. I eventually learned to cornrow and started getting into wigs and crochet styles. I could moisturize my hair, the cornrows could get old-looking but it didn’t matter because it was covered up. I’d have cornrows in for 1 or 2 months and my hair would be so soft when I took it out to wash it. That’s when I noticed a lot of length retention. Also, using bentonite clay once a month, learning my hair’s porosity, discovering that it loves V02 conditioner, using olive oil more and deep conditioning weekly has made a huge difference in the health of my hair. Hope some of this is helpful 😊

    I think It depends on your lifestyle though. I personally exercise heavy every day (former D1 athlete so the routine just stayed to maintain my body type/size). I CANNOT keep a nice twist/braid/flexirod anythingggg out because It just won’t last. And banding method doesn’t work because my hair isn’t long enough lol. So then at that point it’s just puff or dual puffs, which no one wants to do all the time because it’s damaging (edges, tension, etc).

  • @tambariw

    @tambariw

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@TeawithZ my hair loves humidity so most of my twist outs or braid outs don't stay defined, but it still looks good to me when I fluff it out. I've honestly stopped chasing definition lol. I'm also a lazy hair girl, so I wear my hair in a loose puff (very low tension) or just out in a fro. And when my hair isn't out, I'm in low tension braids. It's what works for me. You have to figure out what works for you, what looks good on you and not necessarily what you see in youtube (unless you find someone with your same hair struggles).
