    Hello! I found your video because I I was given 3 little cuttings of grandiflora or teddy bear and I hope to root them. I believe they were all considered “suckers” if that means anything. I’ve got quite a bit of stem and leaves to work with on 1 so I may even turn it into 2 cuttings. I’ve read to not keep much stem, cut 1inch vertical line, clip most leaves in half (not sure why?) and put direct in soil. Would you agree or anything you can add? Root hormone recommendation? I’ve heard the success rate for this is 50% at best, and I don’t know if I’ll ever have this chance again so I want to give it my best💛 my heart is in the southeast and this beautiful tree is a great reminder of things that feel like home to me. I hope to do it justice growing here in Phoenix AZ! Thank you so much for your time :) Krissy

    Hi! Thank you for the lovely video! My question: What do you do with the potted seedlings over the winter? They are one season old. Do you keep them outside, or keep them indoors? When exactly do you take them indoors? And when do you put them back outdoors? Lastly, how old the tree needs to be to survive the winter outdoors? Thanks!

  • @desertplantsofavalon

    @desertplantsofavalon

    8 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much for your wonderful comment Manuel :-) I will be bringing in these little Magnolia seedlings indoors for the Winter because they won't be able to survive frosts when they are so young, I will be bringing them indoors from late October before any chance of the first frosts and then keeping them inside until late April i the Spring, when I bring them inside for the Winter I will be keeping them on a windowsill that receives morning sunshine :-) the tree needs to be about 5 years old before it will be safe to keep it outdoors during the winter permanently, and at least 2 feet high :-) thanks so much for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness from right across the Emerald Isle and have a FANTASTIC Friday ahead XXXX

    @@desertplantsofavalon I know I'm replying to a post that is 3 years old, but I just found you! We collected seeds from our Southern Magnolia last fall, cleaned them and stored them over the winter. We planted them and the little trees are now about two inches tall! I have two questions that I can't find an answer to. Do we need to fertilize them at this young age and if so what do we use? Also, in your above reply to manuel santos, you state that these trees need to be 5 years old before being planted outside. If that is the case, how do they ever grow and survive in the "wild"? I mean no disrespect in questioning you, I'm seriously curious because I don't want to have to babysit all of these saplings for the next 5 years!

    I followed your directions and grew 15 magnolia trees from seeds! They are now about 7 inches tall and 13 of them seem to have gotten root rot. We removed the dead roots, sanitized everything and repotted them in fresh soil and new pots but there was not much left but the one main thick root, do magnolias have the ability to regrow their roots after suffering from this? I am so sad and praying that they survive. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi there :-D I would pot it into a big pot until it is at least 36 inches / 3 feet high and then it would be safe to transplant it into the ground, the best time to transplant it would be in the Spring so it gets a good chance to settle into the ground before the Winter starts :-D If you live somewhere that gets frosty nights in Winter, it may be best to bring the tree indoors during the nights until the tree is large enough to be transplanted into the ground :-D Thanks so much for watching :-D sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from right across the Emerald Isle XXXX
