Razor SX500 gets HUGE upgrade (72v 3000w Razor mod)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we upgrade and modify and upgrade my Razor SX500 e-bike mini motorcycle with a 72v 3000w system! Thanks to surronster for inspiring this video with his own MX650 upgrade - this is an upgrade option for Razor owners looking to build a 72 volt, high voltage system on their own e-bike without breaking the bank :)
PARTS TO UPGRADE YOUR OWN RAZOR SX500 RSF650 MX650 or MX500: linked in comments!
This is my first electric bike build / project, so I hope you enjoyed the video!

    Better to just get a surron. After all the upgrades the cost becomes absurd. 72v high output battery 900+, motor $600+, controller. $400+, wheels/brakes/suspension, etc, another $1000. That's already $3k and it's without the donor bike. 3k will already get you a used surron.

    I love the idea of this mod but I am a taller guy and I get the feeling that you may be close to my 6'1" height as well. I would want to explore elongating the frame by a couple inches and moving the pegs forward a bit if possible. This would not only make the fit better but would also help with the front end wanting to lift. I might also want to try another controller where you can modify the action of the throttle... maybe.

    I think you’d probably want to go for a 48v battery with a matching motor/controller - I don’t think there are any good 36v options, and the power upgrade just wouldn’t be enough fun :) Here’s a pretty affordable 48v 20ah option that should get you really good range: amzn.to/3CVZMEh 48v kits on these bikes are great, and with a 12 or 13 tooth front sprocket from Electro and Co he should be able to hit 30 no problem! Vevor makes a 48v kit similar to the 72v one I used - you can also find that on amazon and it’ll give you around 2kw which would be perfect for a younger rider.

    What gearing are you running? You want to get a 13 or 14 tooth front sprocket. You’ll lose a hair of that torque, but gain top speed; and it will still lift a little. Also, as others stated, E&C programming does help. You can get the mapped controller for about $350. Razor didn’t know what they made when they made these. The SX/MX500 is the best frame, as it is the most versatile. You also have, with the SX, a real BMX freewheel; so you can upgrade (ACS Paws 4.1 is a great mix of price and performance). You are just getting started. These are little speed drugs.

I was actually so curious what the best freewheel option was but couldn't find any information. Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! Speed drugs indeed. It's addictive.

    @Nohoze

    @@logan-taylor Check out KruseN Stuff. He’s been messing with a lot of gearing. He just hit 55.3 on his MX650. With the ACS, you’ll first have to pop that cutting cherry; and remove the stock freewheel. Some people have been able to manhandle it with a lot of torque; but most hack it to death until surrender comes a’calling. You’ll also have to remove a small amount of material from the inner ring of the chain wheel. Completely worth the effort; and it definitely helps to make up for the last few generations’ lack of Hero’s journey. While you’re Doped up on Mod Balls, you might as well buy a 65t chainwheel. 55t is next level; but now you’re adding fans; check the_sharks_cove for his 3D printed fan shroud. Get 2 good 12v fans, and, if you haven’t already, spring for a buck converter, or just as good, a 110ac to 8A DC wall adapter (our Lord and Savior Bezos provides that as well). Works as good or better with 72v than the dedicated 72v to blah blah bucks. You’re gonna want to bedazzle that bish with lights, sirens… heated toilet seats. All’dat. Would you believe I’ve run my mouth this long, and still haven’t got my own SX done yet? I’m in ecstasy just learning about the circuits and rewiring throttles, fans, brakes, etc. ‘Twill be a sexy, Baby Moto, ‘doe; and as close to street legal as I can get. Gonna try to Manifest a Registration. I truly believe if we demand the Right to Ride Responsibly, we can send K’ren back in’na’house. Y’feel me? Ok. I’m exhausted.

    I have a 48V kit on an MX500 and it does around 32 MPH…. Would you know if there’s some type of regulator that I can add on to reduce the power when my young son wants to ride it… my throttle has a 3 position switch which I was hoping would enable me to control the power output but it feels like all 3 positions are the same

  • @logan-taylor

    @logan-taylor

    Жыл бұрын

    i’ve always had trouble with the three modes, you’re not alone. If you could put some sort of resistor on a switch, you could hypothetically limit the voltage that the throttle sends to the controller when that switch is on? So full throttle would be like 2v instead of 5v, for example. That’s like a monkey brain idea but it would definitely reduce “twitchiness” in the throttle and make it safer for a youngster -

    @@logan-taylor Yep, the hand-held parts and my tired, aging eyes/brain just hurt from it. Even the helmet video is okay for me. Sorry for the "suck" because your content's great if I can deal with the video motion. This is the first of your videos I recall, but I've subbed in hopes. Great work and good to learn from the static shots, LOL. Oh, and watching further, you're using a similar battery to the one we got today! 72V, 50AH, 80A BMS and it's the largest battery I've owned. (I've worked w/larger on ships, but they were lead acid. This thing scares me.) We're welding a casing to hold it into the GS500F frame this weekend. It's a hefty chunk 'o Li! The SM200SP controller and hub motor can handle much more, so this battery may move to a Honda Ruckus project sometime in 2023 or so. Thanks for the reply and I'm looking forward to more.

    so far so good! The battery is a Lifepo4 so not as heat-prone as regular lipo (supposedly) and much less likely to cause a fire or something. Everything else has been working great, running at a true 72v, although i might recommend going for a slightly higher end controller - the touchiness of this one down low makes it a bit sketchy (as you could probably tell) but once you’re moving it’s all good.
