I think that’s why Ray had her play solo. Pianist was too distracting from the violinist playing.

She was accompanying like 4 others or something maybe she was just overwhelmed with all the rep to learn

It's called a masterclass, where a talented violinist or teacher teaches another student. Ray was just listening to the student play her piece. Most masterclasses go into more depth than normal lessons. Sometimes masterclasses are preformed in front of an audience.
