These reporters need to learn something about medical issues. Snoring respirations are typically present when the patient is unconscious. Sedation? Guess what, kids? He wasn't suffering. He went peacefully, which is a luxury he didn't afford his victims. And, really? He prays G-d forgives us? Wow.

We in Africa call it the death rattle seen it too many times....The heart has slowed so much that the brain is beginning to shut down from lack of oxygen. The brain is sending its last signals trying to get you to breath (spasm and gasping). The reporters were weak willed and showed a lack of empathy for the victims family.

This is how people die everyday. If you have ever seen a person die with hospice, this happens. Its not inhumane. Both my parents died this way. Both were terminally ill and with the help of hospice giving heavy sedation they both died in this manner of gasping. They were not in pain, they were heavily sedated. One died with hospice at the hospital and the other at home. One lasted longer than the other. Neither suffered. I guess if you've never watched anyone pass like this it might seem long, but they do not suffer like they would have with no sedation. This guy got off easy to be able to die in such a humane way.

@@josephjames8131 8 yrs later and I still feel the same way. I didn't then and still don't believe in the death penalty. It should be abolished because the justice system gets it wrong sometimes. While the process may not have been efficient. I still don't feel he suffered. He accepted his fate after what he did to a woman and her father and the suffering of their families. I empathize more with the family because dead or alive that man that killed their family members is a nightmare to them.

I'm against death penalty for cases where evidence is not as solid and without doubt, in this case however where it was so obvious and unquestionable, I believe justice was served. He didn't care about his victims, the victims family and did it without remorse, I'm not sorry he took 2 hours to die, it took the family more than 20 years for justice. I don't feel sorry, I feel that he paid for what he did. My only question is why did it take so long for the sentence to be carried out? Why wait 20+ years while he enjoyed been alive? With that kind of evidence it should have been carried out much sooner.

So he was suffering and struggling but all the better for his crimes and may he suffer more in the after life.

I admire what the brother in law said. As a criminal justice student I feel that too much focus is given to if the members on death row are being treated cruel during and before their execution and I also feel it takes too long to execute them. I feel the argument that the death penalty doesn't eliminate crime may be true but it does bring justice and it makes sure that our tax dollars aren't being spent towards those who do not deserve life. Those who have killed are not sorry that they did it otherwise they would not have done it. They are sorry they did not get away with it

This one is a tough situation morally because on one hand, he did deserve to suffer or "pay" for the two lives he took. But on the other hand, how can we say it's okay for us to take his life anymore than for him to have decided to take lives? This is the problem with executions and, unfortunately, until horrendous crimes become a thing of the past, it will continue to be an issue. To his family, I'm very sorry for any pain you feel as a result of his actions and his death. To the victims family, I hope you can find peace in knowing that your loved ones lives are valued.

Just think of all the work which the prison staff went through. Certainly they wanted “efficiency” and a clear, expedient order to their tasks. Did the condemned himself prolong his dying process? No. Did the staff “botch” this intentionally? Nope… Something went wrong with the process. A something that happens and must be fixed going forward. I feel for the victims and the family of the victims of the condemned’s crime(s)… I also feel for the prison staff who were merely doing the job they had to do…

In the Green Mile, the Tom Hanks character gives a line something like, " botched execution?? no the execution was good, the condemned inmate is dead, the execution was carried out" I think the idea of what or if the inmate "suffers" is how we as a society try to elevate ourselves as to be above the use of violence. If you cant do the time done do the crime. If you kill someone then you should have your life taken. The amount of money spent on housing and the whole legal drama is absurd, schools and hospitals could benefit from these $$'s. Five years max should be more than enough to go through appeals. Why have a jury if you dont like the result?

I really wish that they would not have victims family speaking, all they want is to eliminate the person who caused them so much pain, they dont care if he slips away quietly or if he burns to a slow death, they are not in a balanced mind, they cannot be a bench mark of a civilised society, I do not condone the crime in any way shape or form, but because that crime was committed it does not give the rest of us the excuse to retaliate, we must maintain the principles of a humane society, do we not learn as children that 2 wrongs dont make a right? We shoul deal with our criminals as such, the victims families are hurting, their wounds are raw and agrivated at this timeand they should recieve the help they need to move on, they should not be given the control of the process, the whole justice system is based on the fact of 12 jury members of balanced mindcwithoutcan interest in the particular case, in order that a balanced verdict can be delivered, I grieve for the families but i dont wish to hear their pain flowing out as part of the judicial process

The issue with this is that the more you learn about our CJ system today and through history you would be a fool to have confidence in it. And the horror of this event happening to an innocent man is so great that its unacceptable to trade any number of good executions for it. This becomes especially true once you understand that condemnation to life in super max is more punitive than death but with an opportunity at reconciliation of mistakes that would obviously not be possible with death. I was a death sentence supporter until I understood the horror of being super maxed. Research it and see for yourself. Choose life. Although really its not life. Its the worst of what life and death have to offer. Come to anti death penalty for making murderers suffer but stay for the ability to fix mistakes (and any such wretch should be set for life with plenty more for a philanthropic institute because its a horror.) Anyone who spends any stretch of time there will not be sane if they come in that way. It is the very essence of "rot in prison". Rot physical (you get a carefully calculated deficit of calories and you flat out don't get daily exercise as the pamphlet promised - who r u going to complain to? So maybe 15 mins twice a week in a 4 ft by 4ft " court yard" featuring a poured concrete floor with drain and the same walls as everywhere else - this ain't no playground. But you may have use of such varied sporting equipment including 1) a basketball 2) nothing. Imagine all the games you can come with to play with so much to work with), rot mentally without treatment for mental health, no body to talk to...not one single friend. Its designed so staff have little or no interaction. You are observed in the room via camera surveillance. Your meals are skid under the doors....days on end in the waiting room. Mental disorders will not be treated properly if at all again and no human contact of any kind - visual auditory...certainly tactile ..no variation in anything. There's so much more...like anticipating the warm soft bed made of poured concrete. If youre super good for just the next six years you might earn a pad. That means only 12 to go for a pillow then we might dare fantasize about a sheet...its always cold.... Somedat a 5 minute video conference with mom and her broken soul. Research super maxes. Florence Colorados twisted designers incorporated many insideous features including the single window that's in every cell is one inch inch wide by 12 tall being designed so that no matter how you look out of them you can never so much as see a blade of green grass, the blue sky, a cloud, the sun moon or stars. But only a wall on the other side. Never changing. Books are a privilege that must be earned and then two shit books rolled around a cart somewhat not as robust as a half lame newstand. A week. If you had nothing to do but read two books ain't nothing. A "king" with the highest amenities offered by adx Florence will get a black and white TV with a closed circuit pumping through such hit TV as parenting classes or a on site religious service (no fellowship even for religion). No human contact for feeding and lots of medical procedures to. Think about waiting in an car tire service waiting area for an hour. Really sucks. Eh? Worst hour ever. Well imagine being in one so inferior the standard one is like a room at a 5 star hotel. But youre not there for an hour....but hour after hour, day after endless day, week after week...what day of the week is it? What month? The endless last day of your life....the lights never go out...you will never see a loved one in the flesh but for a heart wrenching my short and fleeting moment over closed circuit (if you even have been awarded such a luxury) Not surprisingly people try to exit this exquisite torment with the only apparent method: starvation (Richard Reid or mousawi I think tried this) No problem: they will make sure you don't miss a single day of suffering by strapping you to a board and passing a tube through to your stomach to pump into nutrients as you gag and cannot catch a proper breath in the culinary equivalent of water boarding. Its bad people. Worse than death. Cheaper. But reversible. More than death at least. Operators are standing by have your credit cards ready and call now.

Yeah if you've ever heard the death rattle it's un-fucking mistakeable. When they call it snoring it isn't quite the same but I get that it's probably the closest word they have to describe it and I'd agree. As far as cruel and unusual? Who could possibly know given that he was sedated. I absolutely believe that there are acts heinous enough that if one commits, they effectively forfeit their own right to life. However, I oppose the death penalty because the forensics process of gathering evidence has to be infallible in order to grant the government that power. It is not and never will be. The system has failed because innocent people have and continue to die by capital punishment. To the victims family, I'm sorry for your loss but he was put to death in the name of the state and we have to abide by the constitution. Either you believe in due process or you don't. Stipulations against cruel and unusual punishment aren't meant to protect the condemned. It's to protect every one of the rest of us. If you believe in law and order, then don't get up and act like you're some fucking vigilante at the podium.
