Maurice Ravel - La Valse - Poème chorégraphique pour Orchestre
Gustavo Dudamel - conductor
Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela
(formerly known as Orquesta Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana Simón Bolívar)
About the concert
For several years now, Gustavo Dudamel and the young musicians from the Venezuelan youth
orchestra "Simón Bolívar" have been causing a furor on the international music scene. More than
anything else, it is they who have earned the Venezuelan orchestra system respect around the
world: 30 years ago, the conductor, composer and economist José Antonio Abreu had the vision
of combining social work and classical music. Abreu's goal was to tear down elitist structures in
music education and make music a fundamental right of all the country's children.

The apotheosis and the destruction of the classical Viennese Waltz. What a statement by Ravel. Memorable.

I don't think it's the destruction of anything. Rather, it's the culmination of the form in a very French way.

@@lagunagreg4019it is a conceptual piece, the destruction of a Viennese Waltz. Ravel himself confirmed it. That's why at the end you hear 4/4.

@@josue5888 - it might well be. But like everything else he wrote, it is full of Gallic wit and polish. Very little destruction in it. The 4/4 at the end is lost on the listener. if we are looking at it from that standpoint, it is a failure, and I'm glad it is.

Our pleasure! We got more from this amazing concert coming up, so stay tuned! :D

Very elegant ❤
I've been a fan of this Ravel piece ever since I first heard it, and Dudamel embodies to the orchestra here the way the waltz descends (or ascends?) into madness.
Terrifying. Perfectly characterized. Dudamel is a musical marvel.
Ahhh
지휘자 좀 이상해
