    I kinda love how Pathfinder took a totally different route to the Warhammer Skaven, and leant into the positive aspects of being a wee social rodent.

    The Skaven are a deliberately that way, they are less a people and more a running joke dialed up to 11. Ysoki are a people, there are some who are like Skaven but there are those who are just a little guy who works a shop because each is an individual.

    @@SuikoRyos I'm not saying that Kronk from the Emperor's New Groove had a player who asked their GM for access to an Uncommon Ancestry and also requested that Adoped Ancestry's effects applied to that Ancestry's feats for the purposes of a Human character; and thus then took Adopted Ancestry (Ysoki) and subsequently Rat Speech... but I am going to imply that such was the case. You're right, the joke is MUCH better like that.

    This video just made me realize that burrow speed is better than fly speed. Archers can't hit you when burrowed and fifteen feet is too far for the melee enemy to hit you inside the hole

  • @reginaldtorres28

    Plus, the hole is small sized. Anything bigger than you has to attempt to squeeze through a narrow space just to follow you. Provided that they don't have their own burrow speed. Pair this with Rat Form to turn into a Tiny rat and almost nothing bigger than you can follow without a burrow speed or magic.

    I like the level 13 burrow speed for my current desert rat ysoki laughing shadow magus. Laughing Shadow in arcane cascade stance get a +10 bonus to any speeds they have. In 3 levels he can have a 25 foot burrow speed for situational shenanigans and swiftly sneak while doing it.

    Newbie here. Is burrowing enough to create a shelter in cold environments or are there other requirements beyond simply reducing exposure to the elements?

  • @okagisama
    @okagisama Жыл бұрын

    lvl 13 is where some ancestries get swim speed or increase their specific uncommon speed. I'm pretty interested by the ability to burrow honestly, in many campaigns that's quite amazing (going through tunnels...); imagine an ysoki acting as a spy, he'd be able to burrow sneakily to the other side of a cavern or grotto, that's pretty sick.

    Rat form, and Warren Digger seem like a really good combination as I am pretty sure you would keep the burrow speed in that form. This just seems like an extremely effective escape method as even in a pretty rocky area I would say that a tiny little rat could find some softer earth allowing them to escape.

    I'm playing an elderly Suli/Ysoki Kineticist in Fist of the Ruby Phoenix right now, he's quite fun to play. He's one of the leaders of Round Mountain, a Ysoki settlement that spent centuries trapped in a demiplane, and once they got back to Golarion he went to the Ruby Phoenix tournament in hope of gaining a reward that could help his town. I haven't found a need yet for the Rat Form feat I took, but I do think it could be useful in a variety of situations.

    Imagine trying to hunt down an Ysoki Rogue with both the rat form and burrow speed ancestral feats. They could hide a small barrel or chest a foot or two underground with an open hole/side for entry, with some water and food stored, litter these all around the place as makeshift safe-houses and stashes in areas they're going to be Rogue-ing and hide out until the heat from a heist or assassination or shenanigans dies down.

    Hmmmm. Man converting all my stuff from 5e to Pathfinder is going to be such a huge task. I have Ratfolk and Micefolk. Ratfolk are a medium sized mice are small. I already have an idea of how I am going to do this. Instead of Ratfolk I am going to call them the Muridae which is the family that Rats, Mice, and gerbils are found in. My heritages are a lot more indepth then the ones pathfinder has. Things like size, speed, darkvision and more are part of the heritage. (taken from the idea of 3.5 having Wild Dwarves and Artic Dwarves that were small creatures). I also have ethnicities which are kinda the learned vs inherited.

In PF1e I had a ratfolk gulch gunner (best gunslinger class variant fight me) who was one of my favorite characters. I get not wanting to be upbeat about the game, but as a new player if an option is terrible. If it is so bad that's it's a trap, or useless. You HAVE to be upfront about that. A species feat, a very valuable resource, that replaces a cheap compass or cheaper set of tools is absolutely terrible and has to be called out as such. If you're calling it fantastic I cannot trust your evaluation on other items that interact with parts of the game I don't know about.
