I am scared of dogs, but if I ever meet Bindi, Juno and all of your dogs, I know that I would be in safe hands. I am also impressed in the way you train your minks I love them all very much. I am looking forward when you have fire the mink on another pest control jobs and being only 1 year old, she is fantastic. My Favorite Minks are Sherlock, Fire, Honey badger, Rascal and Wyatt. Dogs are insanely quick thinkers and their eyesight and tracking of movement is on point to the millisecond. If you;ve ever seen a dog try to bite another dog, it's crazy how fast they not only sense it coming but can dodge the bite. I noticed while playing fetch that the dogs know the exact last second that they can catch the ball before it hits the fence and the second where they cant catch it without crashing into the fence. So they know when they should let it bounce. I imagine it cant be hard for them to make the distinction between rat and mink.

I've been doing bunch of construction work and when I was washing, repairing and painting roofs we had many times very happy customers because the state of their roofs had obviously been weighing on their minds for a long time and replacing the roof with new one would be expensive. The repainting of old roof is way cheaper and many people don't even know or think about it and salesmen ofc try to sell them a new roof instead.

    Pitbulls are spectacular dogs, intelligent, team players loyal and loving. Our family has had many dogs, of all types. We had an adult pitbull come into our home, and without a doubt the best dog we’ve ever had by a wide margin. Training was a breeze, never had one problem with this dog. within 3 months this dog stood out as a superstar, and became a big part of our home. Pitbulls are loosing their undeserving bad reputation, it’s a tragedy that some people bred and trained them to be aggressive .

    It was mentioned the dogs can tell the difference between rat and mink. I'm not positive, but it may be because dogs' eyes can see at a higher framerate than humans. I'm not sure of the technical terms for it. Most humans can see individual frames at about 60 per second. With training, that can go higher. As low as 24 frames and motion still looks pretty fluid, as if we're actually watching something move rather than a collection of still images. Dogs see in a higher frame rate, I think an average of 75 frames per second. When a dog watches a 24 fps movie, they likely see a series of still images, rather than a fluid motion. This faster "refresh rate" may be how dogs can determine rats from mink: they're processing information faster than we are.

  • @billcovington1380

    @billcovington1380

    Perhaps smell. Dogs are born blind and deaf, so the first and strongest neural growth in their brains is from smell. It's always a prime motivator for them, and I'd conjecture that they are able to tell what's in front of them from the smell as much/even more and at the same time/quicker than from sight.

    Very cool. I read an article years ago that there's variation in humans' eyesight rate. The example was that they think Leonardo da Vinci could see really "fast" and that's how he accurately painted the wings of hummingbirds in flight - it was only after modern cameras (with fast shutter speeds) were invented that they saw how accurate he was. Dogs are amazing! and the Mink Man's canine crew is the best!

    It's hard for us as humans to understand how dogs perceive the world because our senses are in a different priority order. Humans are a sight-based species; we see it, it clicks in our brains. Scent is a tertiary sense for most of us. For dogs, it's the opposite; scent is their primary, and sight is tertiary, following hearing. A mink smells nothing like a rat, even when they've been hunting them and are covered in rat blood; the dogs can instantly tell the difference between contact-scent and true-scent...so they can never mistake the _small, fast-moving not-prey_ with their _food-target-prey._

    Many people have never seen a real pit bull in their life. The overwhelming majority of dogs people claim are "pit bulls" are actually mutts or a totally different breed.

    Thanks for sharing your latest adventure. Good solid video, fine showcase of the team. Bindi ruling the roost (ha!), filling her usual cleanup hitter role. Leia contributing solidly. The mink doing what you train them to do, with vigor and effectiveness. And youngster Juno helping out and learning. What I'll remember most from this one is her backing off from the mink- extremely difficult for a dog to do when primed for the kill, and thus very impressive. A shame the fence gave some rats an escape route - maybe a 2nd visit/video to deal with that & clean things up further?

    Raptor was given to Clint, from Clint's Reptile Room, a few years ago. He died about a year ago from some mystery illness.
