Rare Old Dirt Bike Picked From A Backyard - WILL IT RUN??
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video we try to get a 2001 Gas Gas EC300 dirtbike running! It is a 300cc 2 stroke, appears mostly complete, but is in unknown mechanical condition. I have never owned a Gas Gas Motorcycle before, so didn't know what to expect with regard to how they are built and serviced or parts availability. There were a few surprises....

This video felt like a throwback to the old days of Jennies Garage, loved it. Also, that type of water pump seal is very similar to the floating face seals used on Excavator Final Drives, also called a duo-cone seal. They're really durable and last a long time if kept clean.

Glad you liked the video! It looks like that type of seal is more robust than the rubber kind. And it doesn't leave grooves in the shaft.

poolman here...what is this technology you may speak of? i only ask because " i no want fix no more" type 25+ years in its just annoying now ...Can this seal withstand more normal heat than a pool motor? Im asking is it new? Stopping leaks would help us all out right? Apoligize if i havent researched yet before i asked. It sounded cool. Couldnt resist that, and...well what if it works?

While I mostly agree, a more rapid cadence would not go amiss.
Smackover Motorsports was the GasGas importer at the time the bike was new. The steering damper is from Drew Smith at Works Enduro Racing. The bike also has some decent period-correct upgrades - LT Racing power valve cover, larger gas tank. It's obvious that at some point the bike was valued and loved, before it was beat on and neglected. These were absolutely incredible bikes back in the day, and will still stand up as a great woods bike. I just finished an engine rebuild on my 99 EC200, and it's back to riding the single track like the day it was new. For those watching this later, Central Powersports Distribution carries the legacy GasGas parts inventory (now Rieju), and the water pump seal IS still available as a kit.

Remove the cake pan once the oil's drained. It makes picking up dropped tools & bolts much cleaner.
Been here 10yrs and still love the garage.
I felt the happiness of pulling that kick starter!
Sometimes on older bikes the midbody gasket swells and blocks off the pilot circuit. P.S. I liked the kickstarter solution despite it not working.
The look on your face when it starts is pure joy
Bearing expert here. Answer to your question is: not much if any, definitely not that much. Thanks for uploading. We'll look forward to next quarter's video. 😁

I remember you guys. Love your banter. It’s arguably better than the resto itself. Keep it up you guys are great and just shows what a good relationship can be.
i recently started my dad's old bike, a 1983 honda v45 magna, after sitting for 5+ years. The happiness i felt hearing it start up, whilst it only being able to run on choke and nothing else, was still a huge win for me! seeing you happy that it started reminded me of that moment again, and its still an awesome feeling!

Yes it is a great feeling when you get an old machine running! I have heard those magnas were fast bikes.
You’re going to love it! My co-worker had an early 2000’s GasGas EC250 and it was the smoothest and snappiest bike I’ve ever ridden. GasGas made great bikes.
Your chemistry is amazing. I’m so happy you’re doing motorcycle stuff so you showed up in my feed. I wouldn’t have found you if you were doing stamp collecting (or watching paint dry) but if you were to start, I’d watch that too.
Damn I don't have enough time to watch the whole episode this morning, but you bet I will be back this afternoon to finish it!
I always love watch Jennings garage its like im hanging out with a good buddy or a family member just working on bikes
Love to see you making those kind of videos again. I remember 18 year old me being asolutely facinated by what you're doing. 6 year later, still facinated but I started doing similar things. You inspired me questioning buying new things and trying to salvage used. Moreover I started an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic and now studying mechanical engeneering. Nowadays I constantly think about what I would do while watching and it became a pleasure of a diffrent kind for me. Thanks and keep going please!

I absolutely love these videos. Thank you for sharing them with us. I immediately got the bucket/bouquet reference, too. "Hyacinth Bucket, lady of the house speaking!!" Haha! 😂. Best wishes and good health to the both of you. Thanks again!
Man I’m so glad to see y’all back!!!!
i posted my comment another before the bike started...the smile and camera girl reaction when it worked was absolutely amazing
You guys are hilarious, actually got me into motorcycles and the confidence to work on my own
Great job, y'all. SO happy to see both of you again. (:
I wouldn't call myself a bearing expert, but I've dealt with them quite a bit. There are two reasons for bearing play being a thing: One is to prevent the bearing from locking up or being harder to turn, when the metal expands due to operation in environments above room temperature. The second reason is that every functional surface is manufactured within a certain tolerance - there always needs to be a little play to account for that. There is a DIN Standard which sanctions radial bearing play (or radial internal clearance if you're fancy). It's DIN 620-4, if you want to look it up. It defines four classes of internal clearance: C2, CN, C3 and C4, with C2 representing the smallest amount of play. CN is the standard internal clearance class - the vast majority of roller bearings that are manufactured to the DIN standard, have a CN internal clearance. The internal clearance class is only specified in the designation of the bearing, if it is not CN. Even though not every ball bearing is manufactured to the DIN 625 standard (DIN standard for ball bearings), the internal clearance specified there is going to be comparable to most roller bearings out there. For roller bearings with a inner diameter from 6mm to 10mm, the internal clearance is specified to be between 2 and 13 micrometres. The water pump shaft bearing in the video obviously has a way higher internal clearance than that and it also sounds (and probably feels) like it has seen better days. I love your videos, greetings from Germany :)

Thank you very much for that information! Your comment is an asset to me, and hopefully others who read it. I didn't know of those standardized specs, and I will very likely use those clearance tables in the future.
Crazy thing is that water pump seal...its the same as pool motors. A porcelain to porcelain seal. Everyday folks...we learn something new. Also love you guys channel. The positivity the joke attempts, its all just genuine. Thank you. Keep em coming.

Pool service etc is my occupation not by choice its just what i know. But those seals...look identical to pool motors my guess is just a bit smaller. And as you said,,,being threaded backwards on empellars yes...is a thing. Some do have a screw in the center of that guy made of plastic that you can easily stripp out not knowing shes in backwards bud"Like the prop on a airplane. A pool motor is looking the same as i see here as far as seal and sealplate. No volute present for there is no pump pot. Catching the fact that it hit the case due to damage on plastic...good eye. Very good eye. Exactly as you showed...if that seal gets hot and runs without water to cool them..or has that kind of movement allowed they have a fair reason to leak. Its porcelain im not entirely sure how it works not sure science does either but somehow it works without leaking lol...and the heat dissapation is highly pretty recommendedly decent in ceramic. Arent space shuttles made out of this coolness material? its a tiny pool pump. h.3l yeah" also kudos on that 3rd kick....you know u gotta redo all fuel from any purchase....but saving money on the part cleaning solution..from the crappy gas....i cant resubscribe? Upvote from me.
Nice work. Great to see you two again!
i havnt watched your videos in years, until youtube just recommended me this, I'm glad your still up to the same stuff and I hope all is going well

Awesome video! Glad Jennie’s garage is back!!! More hour long dirt bike content!!
You guys compliment each other, don't ever become complacent of that fact.I would have drained the oil, refilled, obviously ditched the gas and cleaned carb and got some commitment from the bike before I committed to it.Could have gotten burned for 40 bucks, but that did add a suspenseful cliffhanger for us out here in couch potato land.
I REALLY enjoyed that!!!! Great job, and was hooting with laughter at the banter throughout. Love a two stroke, never had one bigger than 100cc, would love a ride on one of these, great job 👍👏👏👏
