Moe Norman's fluid golf swing was a biomechanical masterpiece. The timing, tempo and effortless power is mesmerizing. That's why I love watching his swing on video.
This footage is the second part of this series of videos that I consider one of the favorites in my collection.
I know you will enjoy watching Moe as much as i do.

About the Single Plane Golf Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

Todd, one of the major benefits to the single plane swing is how little stress it puts on your body compared to the standard golf swing. I've been using the single plane swing going back to the late '80s with RightWay Golf and then natural golf. The natural golf instructor who taught me had to give up golf because it hurt his back so much. And he started using the single plane swing his back problems went away and he went back to shooting par. I think that is a benefit of the single plane swing that you should stress more. Thanks for all you do!

your intro sums it up for me. For years my dad always said “ that’s your natural swing” when I would slice every shot, eventually to the point where I quit playing for 5 years.

Thanks for posting these great videos on Moe! They are real treasures! I him mentioned when I was learning about Hogan's swing, and my initial thought was who is this guy is, and why is he doing something so different to everyone else! That was over 10 years ago now, and the more I learn about my own swing the more I understand what he talks about in his, and the more mine becomes like Moe's! And the more, what seems like idiosyncrasies, have been so well thought out. I don't know if there has been anybody who knew more about the golf swing than Moe Norman! Thanks, Todd, for helping preserve his legacy!

If you mistakenly think this is an "old times" looking swing, just look at the people behind. Their swing is much closer to today's swing, than what it is Moe's. Just like Bryson's swing today is different from the rest. These guys just play golf from a total different perspective, and I'm glad through the era of internet these informations have been spread. I'm a 2.5 handicap and reached it with a "standard" swing. I'm 35 now and suffering a lot of back pain. I will try to shift into this plane, not only for health reasons but also for easiness of repeatability. Thank you Todd for spreading the word.

@Todd Graves. Hi Todd, thanks for this great video. I was hitting balls today and realized my back swing was all wrong for the Moe Norman swing, i could not get back to the ball in time and the club face was too open because of that. I realized my back swing was way too coiled and way too much shoulder tilt down to the ball or ground. I then tried to just rotate the shoulders with as minimal shoulder tilt as possible, it's more like the arms just go back and it feels like a minimal back swing, yet still has coil. After this change, it is incredibly easy now, to return square and flush, every single time. And just smacking the ball with such force, i'm not use to such easy power and straight as an arrow shots, every time. Though this video shows this very thing in Moe's back swing, it appears like just his arms are coming back, which means the lead shoulder does not drop down at the ball, much at all, though he still gets plenty of coil in his core. Moe does mention this in that two part video with PGA. Moe says he doesn't want any hip turn and of course there is some hip turn on his back swing, though it is as minimal as he can make it, so he can then easily get into that bent lead knee and the trail shoulder fires through and crushes the ball. Thanks for all your work Todd, much appreciated. peace love light

Hello, I just found your channel, and I have to say thatI have been using the single plane method on my woods, they go very straight, and a "instructor" has me all screwed up on my irons with the twisting and turning, then on my own I started to use the wood hitting method on my irons, not realizing that it's the same flat plane stroke. your instruction will help me fine tune a method that I took to naturally.

I asked this question before but it got "lost" - maybe never posted so please forgive me. First comment - I love the content and I am an avid Graves/Moe fan. When Moe mentions the BSSB here it "implies", I think (to me), that the Buckle and Sit is on the backswing because he says "as I'm going back I'm coming down (sitting - S*%t like on a toilet) he says somewhere". Have I missed something all these years?

Single plane golf swing just makes natural sense. Much easier to reproduce each swing the same. Positioning of the body - stance, grip, torso, hips, legs, knees the same. Club face positioning the same. Distance from ball the same. Placement of ball relative to stance and what you need to do with the swing. Backswing the same. Swing to impact the same. Classic golf swing has to many moving variables.

i bekieve the most important thing about his backswing is that the club head doesnt swing around his head,,or neck,,,,,it goes back "shut" and drops behind him,,then he pulls it to target........in other words he has less variation from where he starts his return to ball.....more consistant..............most people turn into ball first,,, he "drops" first

This is a Complete exaggeration to try to prove a point. Furthermore, name one player on tour who hasn’t hit tens of thousands of balls to develop their skills. Moe Norman’s golf swing is an example of biophysical efficiency that every golfer can learn from. There is reason you are calling them Weekend hackers - and they should all swing like Moe, on a Single Plane to make it easier. They would enjoy the game more and most likely you would stop calling them hackers.

@@charliepastrami2813 What Moe is demonstrating is a biophysical example of simplifying a golf swing to return the club to impact. there are easy ways and hard ways to accomplish the same thing. A golf club is designed on a plane All good players must swing the club on plane. The best players practice enough (thousands of repetitions) to develop a motion that returns the club to impact. The fact is that Most people in the world will never practice enough to acquire that skill. That is why the question should be asked “what is the easiest way”. Furthermore, statistically the best ball strikers don’t win tournaments. The players with the best shorts games and putting do. It’s apples and oranges.
