This song was written for a fan that tragically died in a car crash on the way to a KISS concert. Awesome song and my favorite by them! 🤘

Too bad they didn't do the full version with the car crash at the end of it.

Yeah this is the smashes thrashers and hits version
The full version starts with a muffled radio announcer doing the news, and one of the stories is about a young man who died in a head on collision... then the song starts... and it ends with the sound effects of a car crash. This was my first rock album.
When my dad 1st seen KISS. he said there's no way your listening to that shit in my house. So I got head phones. 😊
A classic! 'Strutter' would be good to check out next.
*You NEED to watch them LIVE* They started the pyrotechnics in their shows and the fire at the beginning of the song is live is SO COOL.
In 1976 I was six years old and asked my parents for this album for Christmas. They saved money with the Columbia House deal (however many records for a penny) but Destroyer wasn't available, so they got me KISS's debut album instead. They thought the guys looked stupid, but they said if they listened to it first and didn't object to anything then I could keep it. They listened, and I got to keep it. They never did like it, but they never gave me any shit for listening to it.
KISS was the first concert I ever went to. It was January of 1983. I was 10. It was mind blowing!

My first concert as well. January 15 1983 Ottawa Civic Center. Creatures of the Night Tour. The Headpins opened. I was 4 weeks away from turning 9. Picked up a Vinnie Vincent pic off the floor after the show. Still have my tickets. $15.

My first concert as well. My mother took me for a Christmas present. Civic arena, pittsburgh Pa. In 1976
Destroyer, my first KISS album. First saw them on the 1976 The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. My mom took me to Roses department store the very next day and bought me this album but never got to see them live till the Dynasty tour in 1979 🤘
Well, as a member of the "Kiss Army" at about 11 years old, I can say that it was mostly their appearance. Gene Simmons especially. He branded himself as "The Demon!" Then with the freakishly long tongue that he would stick out all the time, not to mention he would blow fire at concerts. That's the stuff I think most parents were freaked out by. Keep in mind though, this was mid 70's. It's not like they'd seen Manson yet. 😂

I first got this album on 8 track when I was a kid in 1977. Still love it and remember every lyric.

Me too.
This is one of the best just straight up rock n roll songs of all time
Kiss - King of the Nighttime World
Gene Simmons used to scare the fk out of me as a little kid 😩 From what I’ve seen, I’m guessing some parents in the 70s thought Kiss were satanic and evil… but, there was also a ton of Kiss merch being marketed to kids. Lunch boxes, dolls, etc… kids were dressing up like them for Halloween. The parents were buying all that stuff, so not all of them thought Kiss were evil 😘
I was Made For Loving You was on their only DISCO themed album. It's why i don't understand why that song is so popular. This song, Detroit Rock City is about a guy who pre-games alcohol before getting in his car to make a midnight concert. Because of drinking and driving, he crashes his car into an oncoming truck and dies! So yeah, a little bit more happens in the song than just a guy going to a show.🤪

Sure know something was also great off that album
One of my all time favorite! 1976 we had a 76 Chevy Station wagon. My Little Brother and I were always riding and sliding around in the back...lol. It had an 8Track and I had all the Kiss albums. Dad would only paly it loud enough that we had to sit with our ears up against the speakers in the very back of the car.....lmao. That was the only way he'd let us listen to Kiss!
It's easily my favourite 'Kiss' song!! I made it priority to learn to play this song when I picked up the guitar after 16yrs of not playing since my early 20s. 'Love Gun' is another favourite of mine by these guys

Hey guys. There was a period where people thought KISS stood for Knights In Satan’s Service. That was during the whole heavy metal/satanic era. Ridiculous but true. Great reaction glad you enjoyed!!! More Volbeat!!!

Funny thing about that is I read an interview that when the rumor was going around that's what KISS stood for, the band didn't want to denounce it because the band was getting a lot of attention from that rumor 😂

Kids in Satan's Service. Saw them in 76, Destroyer tour, Bob Seger opened...Kathmandu was his hit. Freedom Hall, Johnson City, TN 8th grade.
In 1978, when the "Destroyer" album came out, I had my Grandmother buy it for my 10th birthday gift. Still have it today and play it occasionally. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

One of the best concert openers. Would love to see you watch a video of this opening a show on the Destroyer tour and then again opening the Animalize tour without makeup. Totally different but both are total kick ass, total energy.
I ordered 4 tickets for my first Kiss concert back in the day for the “Rock and Roll Over “ tour. I was in high school then. None of my friends’ parents would let them go to the concert with me because of the hype, etc. back then. I ended up taking my brother and 2 of his friends with me. My dad searched my car for booze before we left. Lol. He searched a little bit too early. A full tank of gas and 4 bottles of wine and we hit the road. Kiss was absolutely mind blowing back in the day.
I'm 62 now and was 12 in 1974 when I first became addicted to KISS. I absolutely love them. There are songs I don't care for but KISS and Queen were my two very favorite bands back them. You guys did a great reaction.

Kiss and Queen are some of the best@!
My mom tells the story of when she was a teenager she bought an Alice Cooper album and grandma took one look at the cover and broke the record and threw it in the trash😂 Peace from Pennsylvania ✌️
1976! Great song!
Ive seen Kiss 5 Times they're so incredible Live❤ Hey from Canada🇨🇦♥️
One of the great concert-opening tracks ever. This is how Alive II begins.....
My brothers and I were huge fans of KISS.We actually used to dress up like them and put on shows for our parents..what memories :) We had all of their albums because my dad ran a radio station in the 70s and he got us all of them. This song is actually my moms favorite because she used to exercise to it back then, she still loves it and she`s 77. Older KISS is my favorite! My parents had no problem.
As a Kiss classic, this song stands more than I Was Made for Loving You, but I guess it's not as popular for people who are not fans of Kiss. This song has a very tragic background, cause they wrotte this for a fan who actually died in a car accident while driving to a Kiss concert. For sure one of the Kiss' finest.

Ld...oh people that say they are not fans ..are lying and or in denial...like politics! Change the President idiots!
My first concert. Oct. 21st, 1979. It was the Dynasty Tour at The Summit in Houston, TX. Geddy Lee of RUSH said it best, "Whatever you think of KISS, musically or otherwise, there has never been a band that worked harder to give their fans a spectacular show."
Funny thing: MY PARENTS introduced me to Kiss when I was little (waaaaay back around 78, 79); I even watched the movie Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park with my grandmother of all people. Gotta admit, my folks had their cool moments...lol.
I believe it was I Was Made For Loving You in the Scooby Doo episode.
Saw them in Evansville, IN in 1976 or so. Great show. Warm up was Bob Seger, who they let play for 90min+. They had to put weights in their shows b/c feet would fly out from under them.
In a catalog made up of nothing but bangers, 'Detroit Rock City' is hands down my favorite KISS song.
I had KISS posters all over my room along with many others {and blacklights, blacklight posters, beaded curtain, lava lamps} in the '70s & my mom was cool with it! My room actually looked like the record store on That '70s Show as I also had a huge album collection! There used to be a great record store on the Covington Square where Harper's Dime Store used to be but it has been gone since the early '90s ✌💖☮
Greatings from KISS ARMY GERMANY !
Love how they show the bridge between the 2nd chorus 3rd bridge then delve in after the 3rd chorus. Dope
I saw kiss during the FIRST farewell tour, not the 9th. Great show even though they were lip singing. You can even see me I'm the Mohegan sun video with Paul singing made for loving you on the podium at the back of the arena. Just look for the guy with the long hair, beard and black leather biker jacket.
They always open with song! I'm going to see them in November at the Hollywood Bowl. It's the end of their tour. They are retiring from touring which is understandable since they are 70 years old.
Yay! KISS and Scooby Doo mentioned too, love it!!!
First I drink then I smoke. I love this jam. Good morning everyone.
There is a movie called Detroit Rock City. It's about a group of teens in the 70's trying to go to a Kiss concert in Detroit. But they face many challenges to get there. It's hilarious and a must see for any rock music fan
Morning guys! Great song! Haven't heard it in a while! Love kiss! Lol❤️
Most Kiss songs are about rock and women. My favorite band!!
Even after all the more amazing drummers I've been exposed to since I was 3. Peter Criss is still my favorite drummer of all time.
in the 70's, my mom disproved about everything Kiss. Johnny don't play Kiss. She liked to sing while doing the dishes, and one night, she sang the Kiss classic tune "I Want to rock and roll all night".
Dee Snider from Twisted Sister did a very respectable cover of this song! Detroit Rock City is arguably Kiss's 2nd most favored song after Rock n Roll all Night, so it's 100% more popular than "I was made for loving you". And it's a hell of a lot more meaningful (which Kiss isn't known for).
My all-time favorite Kiss song! 🤘
One of the best rock songs ever…. True drive… great riffs…. Honest lyrics…. Fantastic solo…. What more u need…. One more….top 3 show beginner ever….
Saw kiss back in 2021 and Paul Stanley flew right over me
Kiss rocks in the world!!!!!
Destroyer, is classic hard rock. An album you can listen to all the way through. And will not be disappointed.
Those songs just totally hit different on a record player! My mom went to a few of their concerts! (Gene's tongue is real! Lol) If y'all want to immerse yourselves in some Kiss & have laugh too, ck out Detroit Rock City w/ Edward Furlong, Kiss makes appearance in full makeup/concert. They were the Alice Cooper & Marilyn Manson of that time. About how old were w/ AC/DC. Pretty pop-y imo, most songs about $@* Go Have Rock N Roll To You, Heavens On Fire, Rock & Roll All Night, Strutter, etc etc so many to list, I gotta get to work y'all...........
Not a die hard KISS fan, but they do have a couple bangers I can get down with. This being one 🖤
I joined the "KISS Army" in 1976... The same year this song was released... I was 10 y/o and was blessed with very cool parents... They didn't understand my obsession with the band, but they bought me KISS posters, cassettes, toys, etc... However, they refused to let me go to a KISS concert... Guess they had to draw the line somewhere... Lol
I think "I was made for loving you" is more well-known among people who don't really know a lot about KISS because it was a big commercial hit. I also think it's fair to say that not many KISS fans think it's one of their greatest songs. I'm not a huge KISS fan, but I did listen to them quite a bit as a kid, and I never liked that song. I think it's sad that so many reactors do that one because it's popular when KISS has so many superior songs.

"I was made for loving you" was their attempt to appeal during the disco era, if I'm remembering right and get their music in the clubs. A lot of the changes in their tone has been to hustle that cash and push those action figures and bobble heads. It's kinda sad because the drummers and guitarists have been solid reputable players.
1976 what I was 14 is the year kiss destroyer came outhis song was on it my favorite seventies album from them
When I was 7, my house was country only....until my older brother snuck in a copy of Alive II and hid it for years, and it only came out when the parents were gone. Kiss set the standard for how rock looked, how it was merchandised, and the songs were hugely catchy verging on pop in the late 70s. The earlier stuff had more grit. Try "Black Diamond" or "She" from that era.
Seen them several times live, best live show ever. Paul has lost his voice this last tour but still the best showman there ever was. In their 70's but still showing everyone how it's done. Gene has always been my favorite looks mean but is really a big softie
"Kiss Alive" is the album to hit 1)Duece 2) Strutter Start with the earliest material always!

I think Detroit rock city was my favorite kiss song... of course I loved rock and roll all nite but it was too short lol...the 2 you named... she and cold gin.... too many to name really lol
My very first Kiss album. Lol, I was 6🎉 Got to see them tour 4 times, lol
The Scooby Doo with KISS was actually a whole movie that came out in 2014 and I have it on bluray :) Only saw it once though and I am a KISS fan ;)
Strutter should be next
My first concert, 1977 in London Ontario Canada. Knew a guy in security who got me backstage. Got to try on Gene Simmons boot, the dragon one, and was asked to go and party with them. I chickened out because I knew my dad would kill me and at 15 years old, I feared him more than I loved Kiss lol Regret not going to this day but what a great group of guys. They were all super nice. I dont think I heard anything for 2 days after the concert.
The bit at the beginning is kind of important to the song...and it's fun to hear Gene reading the news like a real reporter. The crash at the end is essential because this song folds right into King of the Nighttime World. You really should hear that one right after this one.
When I bought the 1st KISS album in 1974, my dad saw the cover and said, "Holy shit, don't let your mother see that." Their early songs were pretty good.
Finally you guys got back to my favorite band of all-time!! They have a huge catalog, you have so many songs to do, would be awesome if you guys could dig more into their music. Songs like Strutter, Deuce, Black Diamond, Cold Gin, Parasite, Rock And Roll All Nite, C'mon And Love Me, She, God Of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud, I Want You, Love Gun, Shock Me, Sure Know Something, I love It Loud, Creatures Of The Night, Psycho Circus and for the ''non-makeup'' era you have Lick It Up, Heaven's On Fire, Thrills In The Night, Tears Are Falling, Crazy Crazy Nights, Unholy, Domino, I Just Wanna and you have ballads to like Beth, Shandi, I Still Love You (the MTV unplugged version), Reason to Live, Forever, Everytime I look At You. So basically you have a ton of stuff you can pick from.
Know I'm late to the party, and I haven't read the responses or watched past the 4.20 mark, but this was the first BIG KISS album. They had released four albums before this one. The first three albums were studio albums that sold so so, but nothing to make any money. They were about to go broke and their record company was about to go broke as well, when they decided to do a live album....KISS Alive.....which was a huge hit world wide. There next studio album was Destroyer....which his song is on......and it led them to Superstardom.....From Alive 1...to about Alive 2...KISS was the biggest thing around.
Detroit Rock City was also a teen comedy movie where some teen boys are trying to get to a KIss concert . It did not do well , after first week went to cheap theatres but was a not bad movie
you have to watch a live version so you can see Ace play that solo
Detroit Rock City was released 1976 from their Destroyer Album.
I LOVE KISS GREAT GROUP........
Such a great band back then! They rocked!
Great reaction 🎵
You guys are awesome!! The Clansman live from rock in rio 2001 by Iron Maiden is amazing!! ❤👍
Saw KISS on my 18th birthday, on the Destroyer Tour in 1976, and they opened the show with "Detroit Rock City". Which was cool because the opening band at the show was Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet band, who are from the Motor City. Seger got an encore, which is VERY unusual for an opener, and KISS had three encores. KISS is an NYC band.
While the song briefly references Detroit, the real-life incident which inspired the lyric evidently did not take place there. "I had the basic riff of the song, the 'Get up, get down' part," Paul Stanley recalls, "but I didn't know what the song was about except it was about Detroit. And then I remembered on the previous tour, I think it was in Charlotte, somebody had gotten hit by a car and killed outside the arena on the way to our show. I remember thinking how weird it is that people's lives end so quickly. People can be on their way to something that's really a party and a celebration of being alive and die in the process of doing it. So that became the basis for the lyric."
That bridge is epic afffffff
"The Guy with the Star on his Eye" is Paul Stanley (Starchild) he was the Lead singer on this. Now, for a DEEPER Song, You should react to Gene Simmons (The Demon) sing "God of Thunder" or "Domino". You Should See a Live Version of one of their Songs! KISS uses Pyrotechnics, Lazors, Gene will Spit "Blood" or Fire, Paul will Hover over the Crowds on Cables... It's a MADHOUSE! And Yes, They all STILL Wear the 6 inch Platform Boots!
Love KISS
Check out Black Diamond live 1974 Peter Chris ( the drummer ) sings lead. You'll see Paul Stanley ( the one with the star make-up ) will be going wild in those platform shoes.
Most of their songs in the 70s were about screwing & partying. When they became a hair band in the 80s they sang about screwing & love.
PLEASE watch and react to MORE KISS!! (especially live videos from 1976-1978 when they were at their peak!
My mother did that. I was 6 or 7 and I got a new record player. We went to get me an album. She said I could have anything I wanted. I got one and gave it to her. She said " No. You don't want this one" . I argued with her till she bought it. Ot was Kiss Alive II . LOL. It had Gene on the front with blood all over his mouth. Later she came to like the album. Except for God of Thunder. I'd play it when I was pissed off. I would rattle the house with it. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Live versions great too....
i remember my stepfather slammng the door open yelling ,TURN THAT NOISE DOWN !!!!!!!!
KISS are big Beatles, Zeppelin, Sabbath fans among all other genres but ya totally underrated band as far as their musical discography ESPECIALLY the 80’s stuff! Rip Mark St John and Eric Carr
Destroyer was on 8 track 1979 for an under the dash player for my brother’s 1965 mustang headed to PCB just short the speed of sound.
Who ever suggested I Waa Made For Loving You as a first time I tribulation kindly give yourself a headslap
Twisted insane underground psycho
You want to see DRC in full glory? Check out “Detroit Rock City East Rutherford 2000”
KISS from the 70s and early 80s had some good songs. They released like four albums, but none really sold that well until the Alive live album came out. Detroit Rock City is probably second only to Rock & Roll All Night for the song KISS will always be known for. Others worth a look: Strutter, Deuce, Firehouse,Calling Dr Love, Hard Luck Woman...just to name a handful, but their live shows are even better than the studio albums.
a classic
Ok .. FiiiiiNALLY! 🤟😝
So from left to right on the album cover: Starman- Paul Stanley Cat man- Peter Criss Ace-Ace Freeley The Demon-Gene Simmons
*KISS* was my very first favorite band!!! Until they took off their make-up, that is! I was maybe 3 or 4 years old when I first heard *KISS* ! My parents never thought anything of it, my uncle was bringing it into the house, and my parents didn't care. They sort of liked it too, well at least my dad did, and It kept me occupied. It was interesting being a toddler growing up in Atlantic Canada in the early 1970's!
God of Thunder next for sure! Great reaction guys.
See them live in Detroit!
Detroit Rock City is much bigger. Rock & Roll All Night is even bigger.
You guys really need to react to some LIVE kiss stuff, it will BLOW YOU AWAY..........LITERALLY!!!!
My mom was huge KISS fan and I am a lifelong KISS fan as well. My grandmother thought KISS was straight from Hell and that listening to their music would corrupt our souls. I was a pre-teen in the mid seventies. I never got to see them in concert, not from lack of trying, just never had the money or the schedules never worked out.
