    You've basically nailed the premise! It's about literally invading a corrupt person's mind (which takes the shape of a palace) and forcefully making them have a change of heart.

    @@pezdispencer113 You could kind of make the case that makes it more moral. In fact, you can make the case that it's the only moral thing that could be done. Because then it's more like a disease in your body that needs to be removed. If it's not their fault, they are suffering through it as well.The phantom thieves aren't the ones dishing out punishment afterwards. They remove the corruption, if anyone is the immoral in the scenario it's the criminal justice system at the back end. If these people weren't at fault, once the corruption is gone, then instead of being punished they should be given therapy. If it was a choice then it's who they want to be. If it was a choice, there were many decisions that led them down the path to get them where they are before the phantom thieves intervened, but with them not having a choice it means this is an attack upon them as well. It would be immoral to let that continue. The corrupted would also not be in a sound state of mind to make the decision for themselves either. It would be akin to letting a mentally unstable person harm themselves because they don't have a full grasp of reality. Would you sit back and watch? I dunno...sounds kind of heartless to allow that suffering to continue and do nothing.

    @@pezdispencer113 If the distortions are forced on them then removing the distortion is restoring their will, not really forcing them to change. It is making them normal. I think in the lore though, you are not really forcing them to do anything technically. First, their distortions are from the corruption in the metaverse, but the reason that particular people develop the distortion is because they had unhealthy desires. The metaverse warped those desires and turned them into compulsions, and what you are doing is not so much changing their thinking as it is taking the compulsion away so *they* can finally think clearly about their actions.

  • @GokuInfintysaiyan

    @GokuInfintysaiyan

    @@pezdispencer113 That makes no sense. If the reason they are evil is because of the Metaverse distorting them, and Phantom Thieves enter the metaverse to remove the distortion, that just means they are putting things back to normal for that person and restoring their freedom. If they naturally became evil and distorted, with their cognition altering the metaverse, which is more likely, then MAYBE you have a case. But even then I disagree. All it does is removed distorted views and allow you to observe your own actions through an objective filter. It doesn’t force you to be nice, only to not have distorted desires.

    The Persona series is deeply based in Jungian theories of psychology -- masks, shadows, mass cognition and naturally, personas. The game takes the metaphorical terms and treats them a bit more literally.

  • @Redhollow

    @Redhollow

    Mass cognition isn't the exact term, it's the Collective Unconscious. They used more cognitive behavioral ideas in Persona 5 (literally changing someone's cognition to affect their behavior) and put the Jungian stuff further to the side than usual, but that's all still well put. The idea of a persona predates Jung. The Enlightenment-era philosopher Spinoza theorized that all living things are god. That we are basically pieces of god (a larger collective) and our personalities are what distinguish + separate us. Carve us and separate us from the totality of the universe. When my professor gave the Spinoza speech, my mind kept drifting off to Persona and Code Geass. Always fun to connect your studies to your favorite franchises

    This song never gets old in the game. The spoiler free explanation for this song's appearance is that you made your way to the end of a person's palace and you have informed them you are coming for them. This puts them on high alert and the next time you enter their palace, this song plays and everything is pulsating to the beat. It is awesome to experience.

    I always thought the most interesting thing about this song was that it's seemingly about a group of people getting stronger, growing in power, adding more members to the team. And how the people that stand against them can't stop that because it's not something that can be stopped, it's a revolution, Life Will Change. And like the instrumentation effects that as the song progresses it starts layering in more and more elements choir, rhodes piano, ect. It just supports the narrative of the song more.

    Persona 5 follows the format of some kind of heist movie, especially the Japanese 'kaito' genre when the theif or theives send a note like "we'll steal your precious and you can't stop us" beforehand. The protagonists are going into a heist into the mind of a poweful, but corrupt figure. The agressive and taunting lyrics are basically a challange note to the villain.

    Again, I'm really glad you were willing to check these out! I've thoroughly enjoyed your reactions! First, you breakdown of the line about being inside the villain's head was almost spot on what the plot is about, so kudos for understanding that almost instantly. Secondly, the pace of this one is a little higher because it plays during the most intense sections of the game: the heist days. It's the perfect anticipation builder for stealing the villain's treasure right out from under them.

    Something worth noting is that for the vast majority of the game this track is actually an instrumental that starts up when you're about to make the final run through a level to challenge the boss. You've done all your research, you've searched every nook and cranny for advantages and now it's time to finish it, so the music is always associated with that triumphant march. THIS one pops up at one of the emotional climaxes of the story, suddenly the hype track you've been swaggering around to all game gains a whole other dimension. It feels like you and your crew have finally crystalised exactly who you are, what you've already done, and what you're about to do now. And there's not a damned thing your opponent can do about it ;D

    LOL, yeah. He's spot on with that analysis of what's going on. Corrupt leaders, teachers, authority figures. They are using their positions of power to take advantage, and in some cases literally abuse people. So a group found they had powers and started using them to fight back; to take back freedom for not just themselves, but the people without the power to defend themselves. It's interesting how music can tell a story all it's own, and why I am fascinated by games. Because they take all different forms of art and put them together to tell the same story, in different ways at the same time. Each part of it, the music, the visuals, the dialogue, even what's happening during the game-play elements, all tell a different part of what's going on together.

    "That very unique cadence and way of enunciating things." The singer, Lyn (or Rin) Inaizumi, is Japanese. I can't find any definite sources on how much English she knows, but she has apologized for her delivery after one boneheaded journalist thought there was a racial slur in one song. Some people question whether she's even all that fluent in English, and it's entirely possible that she sang them without much understanding of what the words meant. But I love it. Somehow it adds to the Jazziness for me. I'm sure she was given a translation, but if the individual words, the syllables, meant little to nothing to her, then this approaches scatting. At least to my sensibilities.

    Yo I just discovered your channel and I really was impressed with your interpretations and such! It's an instrumental but you should check out Deep Breath Reincarnation from the persona 3 reincarnation album, it's got a rapper in it, very very fun song

    I would also suggest the music Colors Flying High. Although the lyrics aren't subtle at all their message is a great one!

    It is now, after the third video about it, that I do realize that even he doesn't know anything about the game the OST was able to give him some pieces about what the game is. For example in the game the protagonists have powers that are sealed behind a mask and they have to literally tear off the mask (blood included) to awake them. But I still reccomend to do some research, even the incipit would be good and then re-watch the 2 opening sequence from Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal.

    You should check out some of the stuff from the other Persona games too! Specifically, the stuff by the rapper Lotus Juice. He's a great rapper and I think you'd really enjoy him. Some of his songs from the various Persona games are "Mass Destruction", "Break Out Of", "Light the Fire Up in the Night", and "Backside of the TV (Lotus Juice Remix)".

    6:24 fuckin hell he nailed it with the explanation of what the game is here It makes me appreciate the OST that much more that the music on its own can elude to the narrative so well I mean, its to be expected, but its poetic and clear at the same time

    Knowing that you're a rapper, I recommend checking out some of Persona 3's OST as it's involved with a lot of rap elements. the song Mass Destruction for example is known for it's rap.

    After you review all like 200ish songs from the Persona 5, Persona 5 the Royal, and Persona 5 the Animation, you should look into the Persona 3 soundtrack which had a much more rap/techno feel with its main battle theme "Mass Destruction"
