    I have to confess. Every time I open that game I have to stop and listen to the main menu theme. It completes the vibes of the game and pace incredibly well with how you experience the game properly. It's a physical journey, a musical journey, and a personal journey all in one game. Every little detail gets really specially purposed down from lore, weaknesses, and even in the songs to bosses, and it's all more storytelling in that way. Songs like the final boss's would reference the final boss of the 1st game's song, and the experienced player would hear that with absolute chills, knowing what that really means. Everybody knows that plin plin plon leitmotif.

  • @ThePajeIsHere

    I remember the first time I opened this game I was just shocked in such wonderfulness while listening to this intro. When I beat the first time and listened to it again right after the credits end and the main menu appears, tears came like a river. I had to start a new game right after. I had to. I really recommend "Slave Knight Gael" next. It combines so well with the main theme. Even so, imo you started with the Magnum Opus of all Dark Souls series.

  • @user-wg2pp1xj8t
    @user-wg2pp1xj8t Жыл бұрын

    You HAVE to do Slave Knight Gael next! It fits into this very well. One thing that is worth mentioning with Dark Souls OST is that the songs references other songs from both the same game, but also the other games. If you are going to react to Slave Knight Gael next, then you might find some similarities between it and this.

    So if no one else has mentioned it, this track was originally meant for a boss (Pontiff Sullyvan) but was later repurposed for the main theme when that boss was downgraded from endgame to midgame.

  • @lshe97

    @lshe97

    Жыл бұрын

    Makes sense that the Pontiff was originally an endgame boss. Lots of little details in DS3 seem to point towards him being the "main villain" of the game (tho ofc some of it could just be repurposed assets); he was the first Scholar, a mentor to Prince Lothric and thus also the one that managed to convince the prince to not link the First Flame, prompting the resurrection of Lords of Cinder, and ultimately the embers that awaken us, the Ashen One, in a desperate attempt at prolonging the Age of Fire.

  • @ObnoxiousNinja99

    @ObnoxiousNinja99

    Imo, this theme is way too grandiose and big for Pontiff. The theme they settled on for him seems better for his vibe. Maybe that’s cuz I never played the game with this as his theme tho…

    @@naudio1806 I didn't know that, that makes more sense. Listening to it now, I can see this being more Pontiff's speed/vibe. Likely then, that when this theme got repurposed, Yuka decided to make it more bombastic (and also cut down the length a bit) as a title theme. From my uninformed perspective, this makes a lot more sense than a literal copy paste from Final boss Pontiff to Title Track. thanks for the info!

    The thing that's always cool to me about these themes, and especially the Elden Ring theme, is there is an overwhelmingly menacing tone but there's also a subtle bit of hope in there. The way I think of it is it makes me feel like things are really bleak but there's something heroic about standing against all that. That's what these themes convey to me, there's heroism in standing up in the face of unbeatable odds. Given the type of game it is the soundtrack is so fitting.
