A few fun facts about this song. Yuka Kitamura is the one on the violin and is also sometimes heard singing in this as the main feminine vocal lead; this is relevant when you realize she was also the composer of this song and many of Dark souls 3's songs. This song was originally going to be for the final boss of Dark souls 3 before they decided to make it be the last dark souls game. The final boss was originally going to be another boss in the game called Pontiff Sulyvan, but they changed it to the Soul of Cinder. However, they still has this beautiful song, but no fitting boss to tie it to; so the crack heads at FROMSOFT decided to make it the main menu theme. When you boot up the game, this is the first thing you hear; imagine new players surprise when this banger is the first thing to greet them. Finally, Dark souls is a game, without spoiling anything, about Tragedy and learning to move on. It story is hauntingly beautiful and complex, just like its music.

The best way to put this ost into words is the "the final breath of a dying world". The death bell tolls in the background, the desperation in the violin and the choir, the main vocalistkilling it with the highs.

@@konuka_amenaaaaah that’s big facts though. I played DS1 and was blown away by EVERYTHING about that game because I went into it blind and after hitting those points we all have as gamers where nothing seems intriguing as a game and you’re kinda bored of it, then I was reignited and pulled from a deep depression by 1 so I try 2… yuck. I was crestfallen and got a little over halfway through before losing interest in the level design and I was so done. … then I try DS3 in hopes of capturing that magic of 1 and that main menu music relighted the flame in the most largest of ways and like you said “I knew my money was well spent” 🤣

That's not really a correct summary of the games story though. It basically tells the tale of a lord and self proclaimed god who at the dawn of the world, in the first flame that created and fuels the world he finds the soul of light, along with some other lords tha each find other powerful souls who define certain aspects of the world. Only a fourth small human would find the dark soul which at the time was small and weak. This lord and god called gwyn so takes over the world thanks to the power of light and flame, but after a long age of prosperity he realizes that the flame is dying out and that dark is soon to take over, so he casts a curse of fire that seals the dark inside each man causing them to eventually fall into undeath while he also decides to burn himself into the first flame to fuel it and keep it from going out as it naturally should. Essentially this tradition of feeding powerful heroes to the flame goes on for centuries, constantly breaking the natural order of the world and currupting the laws of humanity, space and time. Until in ds3 we see a decaying world that finally starts to give in to the natural darkness it should have been granted thousands of years ago. This story basically teaches how a powerful god was afraid of letting go of his fading power and in doing so meddled with the natural order of the world only causing more suffering.

If you try out these games, just know it's all about timing. DS3 is the easier one, so start with that one and work your way back. If you have the patience and control, then go for DS1 or even Demon Souls. They're fun when you understand what to do, but at first it can be irritating. The bosses hit you with 5 strikes, and you're done. Sometimes less than that.
