    What's with everything being a "community", that is weird. Back in the day we had "alternative rock" and it was so broad a category that it'd include shoegazers, britpop, post-punk, goth, new wave, indie rock, indie pop, post-rock, post-hardcore, math-rock, ect., and noone was so defensive about the genre they loved the most. There was tons of cross pollination. And i think that's healthier if you're trying to make rock relevant again. Stop siloing off the sub-genres! They're all rock and they're all okay!

  • @timoratus_music

    @timoratus_music

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@xxcrysad3000xx Well I completely agree for the most part, it's just natural as there's more genre mixing that each one kind of creates its own little group. You've got stuff like rap rock, blackgaze, and I seemingly endless collection of genres that would seem to have never been able to fit together. More often than not it's just people looking for something that is similar to what they already love which is where these communities spring up and create a bit of an echo chamber. I would too like to see more umbrella terms, but with everything being a little bit of everything else these days I just don't realistically see that happening.

    The funny thing about the jam band scene is that they have their own DIY ethic. It's a largely self-made subculture. Literally only clicked to see if Prog was featured, so that was fun. Prog and fusion are by far my favorite genre of music, and I will never understand why it's not more popular. It's just all the genres at once, often with a sincere effort to be more artistic and adventurous. But, I think more people would enjoy prog if they really dug into it--and realized how much "non-prog" is actually pretty proggy: The Beatles, Funkadelic, Primus, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Muse, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and many, many others were often (or always) very prog.

My friend TJ was in Thee Invaders, who started out in Columbus and moved to Chicago. They billed themselves as "a Psycho, Surf Punk, Garage Rock-n-Roll Space Case with a Hunger for Brains." - Let's face it, that's pretty much psychobilly, they just never had a stand-up bassist nor did they need all of the fancy outfits. Then again, this was 2002-2010. The fact is, I know people here from the goth scene who eat this shit up. Next misclassification of my town where plenty of cool shit happens?

    I used to love HORSE The Band. Grew out of them as I got older, still listen to a song here or there, but I’ll always respect their world tour documentary. They scrimped and saved to have the once in lifetime opportunity to tour the world on their own terms. Great work ethic, they had a huge goal and they did it. Also I can’t hate Ska, just gives me those childhood memories of watching Nickelodeon vibes.

If they actually wanted to help they could have helped me carry in those heavy cabs because I appreciate genuine attempts to help and/or break the ice. I could rant forever so let me stop now lol. Like I do get that it takes nerve for anyone to approach a stranger and talk to them but let's all think more before acting or speaking.. please? If you wouldn't say it to/about a man then stfu basically lol I want to add that my all male bandmates showed me nothing but respect, just like anyone else with no special treatment either, AND dealt with plenty of ridicule for having a skinny little girl in their bands and being accused of only letting me in because they wanted to fuck me, which was insulting to us all but they never once shidded on me to fit in with the douchebag elitists

    Regarding My Bloody Valentine specifically, I think you should listen to their first album, "Isn't Anything". Much more raw and noisy and less spacey and dreamy than Loveless, and there's some genuinely catchy songs on there like "When You Wake You're Still In A Dream", "Cupid Come" and "You Never Should". The "You Made Me Realize" EP is also great - "Thorn" and "Drive It All Over Me" are extremely well-written indie pop tunes. Give their earlier stuff a try, you might end up liking it a bit.

    Pop punk can be VERY ANNOYING! But it really depends on who the band is. Billy Idol's old punk rock band GENERATION X was sort of viewed the same way GREEN DAY, GOOD CHARLOTTE, and BLINK 182 is now by certain people in the punk scene (what's left of it). LEMMY KILMISTER of MOTORHEAD was once asked in an interview if rock n roll was going to live on in future generations and he said ,"of course, but you're not going to like it and that's the way it supposed to be." Each generation has there own sound, and naturally gen x'ers like myself tend to cling to what we know and the younger crowd might see BLACK FLAG or MINOR THREAT as oldies music or something. By the way I have to disagree about Psychobilly music. The Cramps were awesome!

    I think going through the rabbit hole of metal, towards the deep core, it’s hard for me to decipher which band is grindcore, slamcore, and deathcore anymore. Bands like Signs of the Swarm and Within Destruction are being tagged as Slam and Deathcore, while bands like Analepsy and Visions of Disfigurement are teetering between Slam and Grindcore. That’s why this tier list is a bit confusing, and why I have some genres in other spots. Lol.

    @ghost mall If you have a pedalboard full of Strymon pedals, you are a) a newer person into shoegaze or b) someone who has too much money to blow on pedals. I'm still using the same Boss pedals that I've been using for goth/shoegaze for the last 20+ years. I don't have the money nor the desire to switch it up. The only thing I've done since is made a separate pedal tray for my bass and that was 12 years ago. Some of those pedals sound great, sure, but I'd rather spend less money on pedals and spend the rest on other stuff. Seriously, my entire Boss guitar effects rig probably cost less than one or two of the "boutique" pedals that people jizz over these days. And I wouldn't trade it.

    Literally being from the Midwest I can definitely agree, and I think that extends into Indie Pop too. You get a lot of folks that seem like just misdirected and awkward but well-meaning and ultimately harmless outcasts, and then you get to know em better and wind up finding out they’re some of the most elitist, manipulative, emotionless folks you’ve ever met. No amount of internet memes featuring sarcastic Word Art captions in all lowercase font could ever be self-aware enough to excuse how awful some members of the community can get.

    I didn't like Nintendocore but we needed that moment to get Electronicore, which I LOVE. Same with Crunkcore. I knew it was bad but unironically loved it because it was fresh and new and different and I could hear the good well-produced song that was intended. As you, Finn, mentioned before I believe, we needed Crunkcore to have Hyper Pop today. I feel that way about both Electronicore and Crunkcore, we needed those genres to get Emo Rap, Trapcore and Hyper Pop today. Does that make up for the music originally being bad? I do think so, at least a little. I think a bad genre that influenced many popular genres years later deserves to be given extra credit.

    yeah nintendocore happened in the 00's, lots of noise kids, ex-ravers and lo-fi hip hoppers had their hacked gameboys making their one man/woman noise projects.
