Every band has bad songs, the list is endless and yet they have picked "why can't this be love", "bad" and "smooth"..
Putting the Billie Eilish song on here, especially at number one, is kinda hilarious to me. There are so many worse songs that could be put in that spot. The song is solid and it is literally Billie Eilish doing her version of Bond song. It seems like the author of the article just doesn't like her sound and decided that the song was bad because of that.
@crazydud3380
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was weird. It isn't great, but it certainly isn't bad either. Lists like these usually put something people have heard of at number one, because that controversy gets people talking and generates more clicks. Some random crap nobody cares about at number one would be more accurate, but would not get nearly as much attention. Always look at everything in these lists EXCEPT for number. Just consider 2 to be the true number one.
@rmv9194

It isn't even the worst Bond theme. Die Another Day by Madonna deserves that title, and also a spot on this list.
“Smooth” by Santana and Rob Thomas being on that list does truly baffle me. Maybe it’s because I don’t mind some “yarl’ing”, but you can’t go wrong when Santana is riffing. Plus RT is one of the best looking men ever during his height. I don’t know. Song still bangs for me. 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️

I love how you skipped "Rhiannon", because somebody at Spin obviously had a bone to pick here. Fleetwood Mac may have made some average songs, but never less than that, and Rhiannon is a great song. A lot of modern day artist will never write something as good as that.

I was actually giving the list author the benefit of the doubt for including MJ's "Bad" there because I assumed it was for the pun; "all his songs are good but that one is *Bad*". I almost feel like Michael Jackson's "Bad" was put on the list as a joke. As in if the article had actually been titled "Really Bad Songs By Great Artists" instead, then that song would work. But the title is "Worst" not "Really Bad" so it lands with a thud. (Because "Whazupwityou" with Eddie Murphy is definitely worse and that's just going off the singles)

Because of Do America, Love Rollercoaster always enters my head every time I’m in Vegas. So it has that nostalgic connection because that’s one of my favorite most watched movies.
That Kanye tune about drunk girls is basically a cover/parody of Can's Sing Swan Song. Kudos to Kanye for tippin his hat to Can and dabbling in the krautrock world, but that's not really something his audience is going to appreciate. Also, one of the contributors to that list must have an evil parent/step-parent who likes Paul Simon to put to two of his songs on the list. Me and Julio... is great, and I know their contributing staff ain't just gonna go and bag on Steve Gadd's classic drum part to 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. But it sounds to me like they totally did.

No time to die was a remake of Writings on the wall which was a remake of Skyfall. All three were in the same key and same chord progression. We've not had a good bond song since You Know My Name.
For the Jay Z song, I don't think it's fair to count a song that they didn't even officially release.
Very glad to hear you're helping bring spin back. Missed them
Ministry’s 1st album With Symphony is a guilty pleasure of mine🤷🏼♂️ A friend of mine who is in a industrial metal band in the 80s, Lived above a nightclub Ministry would perform at. When Al Jourgensen came into the club the DJ would play a song off the album which reportedly Al hated. So he’d kick in the DJ booth door and break the record. 🤣

This list is so pretentious lmao, there isn't much on there I'd genuinely call awful, at least once you get towards the bottom, like Billie
Yeah someone at Spin was definitely trying to increase the brand's edgy factor by not only including a popular Billie song, but making it #1. If they are indeed trying to reinvent themselves this is a strange place to start. Writing controversial things for the sake of being controversial is kind of the norm in 2022, not innovation. Hopefully Spin gets a little more creative in this transition. Also weird to include that White Stripes song because that's apparently a Japanese bonus track and most of the songs on the list are relatively well known.

08:37 Hot Summer Nights was the first Van Halen song I learned on guitar
I loved Gallons of Running Alcohol when I first heard it. I felt like it was the bands middle finger to the record labels and the issues he was having with Geffen not supporting their mix done by Albini.
Remember how Michael Jackson spent the 80's convincing people he was bad and 00's that he was good. Weird times.

The Billie Ellish song is only bad by bond song standards imo
Fun fact: the MJ Bad music video was directed by Martin Scorsese. Also Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol Flows down the Strip was omitted from the US release of In Utero. It was the final track on the Japanese import version. Honestly it should have been a hidden track like Endless Nameless. Personally I hate the songs All Apologies and Pennyroyal Tea and I would have liked for Gallons to be there instead.
19:00 the melody of Kanye's Drunk and Hot Girls is a sample from a 1970's "Krautrock" band called "CAN." The original song's called "Sing Swan Song." imo it's kinda cool but other than the melody sounds nothing like the Kanye song. I feel like the whole song was just a flex on sampling some deepcut and the fact that one of the lyrics in German kinda sounds like "drunken hot girls."

“They call me the edge” Ok “hey man”, it is!
Some people take My Ding-a-Ling in good humor, and sometimes I can, too. But it was dumb as hell that it was a genuine #1 hit for him though; his only #1, with his other highest charters being "Sweet Little Sixteen" (which is a classic) and "School Days" (which was better when rewritten as "No Particular Place to Go", I think) at #'s 2 and 3, respectively. I hope he genuinely got a kick out of it, cus' he had to play it a lot live after that.
It's funny how music works. Taste in any art is very subjective and IMHO there's no objectiveness in music. For example "U2 - Vertigo" is basically the only song I can listen to from them, I consider their other stuff boring. The song won 3 Grammys in 2005, but that doesn't say much, the funny thing is that 15 years later it's on the "Bad songs" article, made my day :D.
Today I learned Brad Paisley isn't just the cowboy on the insurance commercials.
