Hot take but I think Tool fans who aren’t musicians are even more annoying that Tool fans who are. At least praising them for their musicianship is warranted and yes Maynard does have exceptional lyric writing abilities but if you’re gonna talk my ear off about the Fibonacci sequence and how “deep” they are then you’ve lost me. Just be normal people.

i remember all i listened to was Tool. every day till the songs went numb on me....and then more lol. watching concerts, lyrical meaning videos, occult stuff, learning what little history we have of them.....then one day it fizzled out unbeknownst to me haha. now i'm in a "nu-metal bands i've somehow missed and have on repeat" phase rn.

I work in a mechanic shop the amount of nu metal you hear in there would melt you brain

This is no joke, there are so many metalheads needing this that its just sad. Hell, even my W girlfriend likes some Archspire songs, so I paid my dues to the community lol. Speaking of them, Archspire fanbase is great because the band is full of great and funny guys who dont take themselves seriously. Or at least thats the vibe I get from them.

I had this experience in high school, but with punk music. A couple years later when I got into metal, all that noise seemed to disappear (this was around 2004 so the internet wasn't what it was with opinions and gate keeping). I still loved punk, but it got exhausting being fucked with over which sound waves were pleasant to my ears. Maybe they knew not to fuck with the tritones in metal.

When they compared Slipknot/A7X and mentioned that Knot fans have tatts for the band, have they not seen how many skull/batwing logo A7X tatts there are?

Maybe it’s the area I live in? I’m a meat rider for Sleep Token, yet the majority of people I know either don’t care for them, flat out hate them, or to this day have not even heard of them. I can count on one hand how many people I know who love them.

Same here. That's actually super on point and accurate. As a lover of European metal music and European culture, I have seen some people so stupidly obsessed with them, they are the European version of Koreaboos/weaboos. I always love appreciating music from all cultures but that stan culture is an absolute clown show.

Picking any of these bands over Sleep Token legitimately upset me. Sleep Token has more stans than literally any band I have ever seen in my life.

Idk how I missed this video, but about 6 months ago I finally started listening to Origami Angel. Actually I started listening to Origami Angel on the way to see BMTH open for Fall Out Boy. I just saw Origami Angel for the first time the other day…and the description of the fans was spot on - but the show was insane. Very strange to mosh with a person dressed up in pirates of the Caribbean get up and joker facepaint while singing about going to McDonald’s at midnight. So for that, as much as I love both BMTH and Origami Angel, I would have put Gami up as well. It’s also more fun to ride Oli’s meat

I remember one time i was talking to this dude about KSE and metalcore songs we like, and then he brought up Unearth. I wasn't really familiar with more than 1 or 2 songs, and that was enough to set this kid off for like a half an hour about how I should know them and influence. He basically tried to make it seem like I was a poser and tried to delegitimize everything I said about KSE because I didn't know every Unearth song, "like, you don't know anything about metacore if you don't listen to ...."
