    Considering the Ranger Raptor world release (180 countries!), for example the Aussie market (1yr+ already).... thinking/assume the design (including width/tire size) is aligned with markets other than CONUS too (including regulations for production vehicles). There are many Australian reviews noting it's considered a light truck and not commercial, etc. The massive market and most popular worldwide segment (mid-size pickup) may have caused what we consider 'conversative' design (including wheel travel). Here in AZ, occasionally run into first time visitors to the US that are simply shocked by the size of our daily vehicles. Gulliver's Travels for sure!

    That is a great point. The f150 is mainly an Americas vehicle. The Ranger is world wide and has to meet world wide standards so the smaller everything makes sense

    I'm not sure why you hounded the outside to edge of mirrors dimensions when the track width is what matters to your point. According to the graphic you showed, track width is 4" wider than a standard ranger.

    You are looking at overall width, that's with the mirrors, you have to look at tire width, or width without mirrors. The track width is wider than the standard 6g ranger, but still not much.

    That’s not exactly true. SVC like many shops, don’t have any Ranger Raptor plans. Just like they have not released a bronco Raptor mid travel kit. That platform is hard to upgrade and get more without relocation a ton of critical components. Elevating the cost of solutions. So you’ll see stock travel upgrades like arms and shocks. But increased travel is tough without major expensive work.

    I have one and I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I've been driving it off and onroad for 3 months and it way exceeds my expectations. You should try get your hands on the media car to take it for a drive before writing it off as not worthy of the raptor name. And comparing it to the ZR2 saying it's not as capable because of the .6 of an inch more suspension travel is kinda ridiculous. And talking power numbers all I have to say about that is, take it for a drive and then drive the ZR2 and Tacoma. Chalk and cheese comparison.

  • @KeepItDirtyOffRoad

    @KeepItDirtyOffRoad

    9 ай бұрын

    Definitely not saying it won’t perform. But the ZR2 is better on paper with the bison package. 35s with bump stops from the factory with just a smidge of extra travel makes it the better offroader. Raptor should be class leading in every category and not trail any other manufacturer. It should have the most suspension travel and most horsepower. If you look at the promo clips ford barely showed it articulating the suspension. Not like when the f150 Raptor and bronco Raptor was launched. I know the areas where they filmed the Ranger Raptor here in Johnson valley. Very tame and mostly flat lakebed shots. The US launch was not great and IMO while understand this has to be smaller because it’s a world wide platform, in the US it does not live up to the name.

    Ford clearly wanted the RR to fill that daily driver role while still being a more than capable off-road rig. Whether it “deserves” the Raptor badge is of course a matter of opinion. It’s still a beast of truck no matter how you cut it. Your only gripes seem to be lack of suspension and it’s width.

  • @KeepItDirtyOffRoad

    @KeepItDirtyOffRoad

    10 ай бұрын

    Yeah it is. But the argument that can be made is that suspension is what makes a raptor. It’s not the engine or the tech. It’s the suspension and what it can do offroad. Raptor have always been at the top of their segments in terms of capabilities. The Ranger is not and that’s why I don’t think it’s deserving of the name. But it’s the most widely available Raptor. More than the f150 and the Bronco that can be sold worldwide wide. So I get it. Just wish Ford went all out like they did for the Bronco and f150

    But it is wider than a standard Ranger… Mirror to mirror all Rangers are the same width; 2,208mm (86.9”). Fender to fender, a standard Ranger is 1,918mm (75.5”). The Ranger Raptor on the other hand is 2,028mm (79.8”), so the Raptor is 110mm (4.3”), wider than a standard Ranger. An F150 XLT or Lariat (or most of them), is 2,030mm (79.9”) wide; fender to fender. So a Ranger Raptor has close track width (1,710mm; 67.3”) as an F150 (1,725mm; 67.9”). 2mm narrower than an F150, 15mm narrower track than an F150. The Ranger Raptor is wide compared to a standard Ranger.

  • @KeepItDirtyOffRoad

    @KeepItDirtyOffRoad

    But still does not explain the low suspension travel numbers. Bronco is getting more travel with the same frame width. Now mind you the Bronco raptor is as wide as a Raptor, but ford could have gotten more suspension travel from the truck and made it class leading. Right now the ZR2 beats it and when you add the Bison package, that right there with the factory hydraulic bumps is a proper capable rig.

    Please don’t lift a Raptor. Even though this is not a true Raptor, a lift kit will only take away more of the truck’s capabilities. You can’t jump a truck with a lift. The lift can’t take it and will collapse. Most lifts are for show and some are for rock crawling. They are not designed to take the stress of fast off-roading. If your plan is to take it slow, then you’re fine. But if you plan to hit desert trails or Baja at speed, don’t give it a lift.

I think if Ford gave it the proper Raptor treatment and went for class leading performance in all segments like they did with the f150, they would have had something that could finally take on the Tacoma. But I think they chose easier manufacturing and penny pinching over class leading.

    It would be interesting to do a video on the quality issues Ford and Chevy have been having with the Bronco Raptor Motor and the ZR2. I also hope Toyota does a better job with the Tacoma then they did the Tundra. The Tundra has been having all kind of fitment issues. Also wonder what the gas mileage on the Ranger Raptor will be. The Tacoma hybrid motor coming out next year is the same motor they are putting in the new Land Cruiser and that vehicle is supposed to get 27mpg. Never really worried about mpg before but my 2012 Raptor is a thirsty beast. Doesn’t help I have Kook headers, exhaust and tuned lol.

    Quality across the board is an issue for all the manufacturers right now. With Toyota you at least know you’re getting a reliable power train. But their quality has severely decreased with fit and finish and interior trim. The Tacoma build quality of late has been embarrassing. All due to penny pinching and you saw it in the tundra as well. But you don’t hear about it as much because the fan boys are so loud about tue Toyota reliability. To the point that they sound brainwashed and completely blind to issues. Ford and GM guys are not like that and are very loud about the good and bad with their setups. So maybe that’s a good video to research and do and shine a light on the declining quality in the industry.

So if your wanted to seriously offroad it that’s one of the first thing that needed upgrading. Most would do a lower trim Sahara with the Dana 35s and go wild with Dana 60s. That’s not really an option with the 392 because of the price. It’s already too expensive to upgrade it further and unless you are really really well off. Anyways, it is easily googleable, for example a "race dezert" piece about 2024 ranger raptor: "The 2024 Ranger Raptor is Finally Here". What's funny is that after your comment, when I looked up the info, I saw a motortrend article, which states different, more "common" numbers for ranger raptor: "As with all other Raptors, the suspension travel is greatly increased from the mainstream 2024 Ford Ranger's 5.2 inches of jounce and 3.9 inches of rebound in front and 5.0/3.8 rear to the Raptor's 5.2/4.8 front and 6.5/5.0 rear-or 1.4 inch more front and 2.7 inch more rear total travel." This is more along the lines what you said previously and I too, agree - from everything I've seen the rear should have more travel compareed to the front. ALSO, 10 inches in the front and 11.5 in the rear ain't too shaby though. My father got the non european or middle eastern version with full 397 HP about three weeks ago and has only traveleld about 400kms in it, but from what very little seat time I got in it, the teuck just feels wonderful over broken up asphalt and speed bumps 😂😂

    I bet it was not too fast. Just enough to finish without missing the cutoff. And typically without any competition, a class all to itself. That’s how GM had done it in the past too. These winds are typically pretty hollow when you actually research them. It would be great if they all competed every year so we can have some real competition. But right not it seems like they intentionally only enter when they have the race class to themselves

    Market competition is fierce in that segment for sure and everyone is trying to take down the Tacoma. I personally feel like the taco has no soul it’s not fun to drive, it’s not particularly good looking, it’s just reliable. The zr2 and the Ranger at least stand out with the new versions in terms of capabilities, tech and styling. But based on what I’ve seen on the trails and the little footage ford released, the ZR2 with the bison package would be my pick.

    Just finished watching your vid. You are right, not worthy. It's great for the street. They dropped the ball on the suspension. The Ranger Raptor engineer said they put 33's to prevent hitting the fenders. Well it should have wider fenders with a higher arch and push 12" of travel front and rear. At the end of the day prerunners with bolt on mid travel kits are still better but Ford will eventually catch up, just look at the F150 Raptor to see the trend. Definitely will be looking at the Gen 3 Ranger Raptor. Pass on this one. Thanks for the vid.

    I think you are being to harsh on it. #1 It comes with 400hp twin turbo V6 that can easily be tuned up to 500hp. It is more exciting vehicle from engine power and performance standpoint then the competition. #2 The frame is close to the same as the one in the Bronco Raptor. So most likely capable to take what 99% of owners will put it through. #3 Not long ago a 2.5 Fox live valve shock was considered good enough for the F-150 Raptor. And with little bit trickery from SDI can be made to become even more capable. I am sure SDI will release similar upgrades for the Ranger Raptor along with their leveling cups. ( I am sure fitting 35" won't become an issue then ) #4 It dimensions are overall much better for off&roading then the F-150 Raptor. And wider is far from be always better whether off road or daily mall crawling. Of course Ford doesn't want it to become as good as F-150 Raptor. But I feel it got the bones to become possible better. Just like Porsche doesn't want the Cayman to be better then 911. In spite it has the potential to become one with it mid engine layout. I am sure for most owners the Ranger Raptor suspension travel will be more then sufficient enough, not least with SDI upgrades.

    @@Suomyice you sound like you don't understand what's fast off-road. A little 1.6 liter inline 4 without a turbo would be faster than this with the proper suspension. And yes wider is better, the wider the control arms the more suspension travel you have. Needs bump stops, more travel, bigger tires, and then you can get more power.

    I get it. Ford can’t make it upstage the F150 Raptor. But in this case, the size of the shock don’t matter as much as the stroke of the shocks. If the overall travel is 9 inches. Stroke can’t be more than 4-5inches. Whole SDI can make the truck perform better, there are limits. For me, I was hoping this was close to the bronco raptor. At the very least 35s and maybe similar suspension travel.

    @@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Ahhh GM, they also share blame in my journey :). I won't ever give up my NA 600hp LS3 6.2 C6 (my dream car). I started out wanting the Chevy Colorado, but then for the price vs. creature comforts that I enjoy and 600lbs less weight, I looked at the Canyon, but then they hid features behind the highest tiers - no front lockers on the mid tier, but I have to get a mold generating sunroof on the high tier? Why am I locked into a WHITE interior, but it's only white wear we touch things with dirty hands? Also, high beams behind the touch screen only and corporate announcement they are abandoning android auto?? After having a rental vehicle within the past year, android auto is the best thing since sliced bread. So I looked at the Ranger Raptor (Front/rear lockers, truck utility, creature comforts, vertical massive screen, not too many buttons moved to touch screen, android auto, I could speed offroad like I do on-road, etc.), then the dealers tried to upsell me $10k-20k ADM, so now... I watched the GX550 vids where the truck stays basically even they are doing insane articulation stuff. My wife and dog would be super chill with that. Now I question whether I even want the pickup, when I buy a fold up trailer for dirt bikes, motorcycle, or tow a camper vs. rely on a micro truck bed. Plus no stupid colors... No pond scum green (Ford), Race car white touchy places (GMC)... I get that Lexus will charge me ADM, but it all sounds closer to $2-3k vs. $10k+. I'm going to keep saving my money, heavily, and just might reach the point where I can outright put down $50k at which point buying a truly "nice" vehicle will be easier. I'm buying to own for the next 20 years. That's why I am being so picky and why I want "leather", nice amenities, heated/cooled seats. Do I sound frustrated yet with the industry? lmao.
