Randall Smith on Reproducing the Magic in 'The Pit'

Музыка

MESA/Boogie Founder, Designer and President Randall Smith takes you on a tour through 'The Pit' at Mesa's one-and-only factory in Petaluma, CA. The Pit serves as Randy's main tech bench and is also an archive where old prototype amps get 'put out to pasture'.
Randy discusses 'reproducing the magic' from the original prototypes and some of the steps, processes and philosophies involved in making every production amp as good as the original prototype amps that start it all. See the FIRST Rectifier, ironically built in a Mark IV chassis with the second (Dual) Rectifier sticking out of the back of the amp since there wasn't enough room to put it next to the first one in the original proto.

The fact that he doesn't play guitar made me want a Mesa/Boogie . He allows the player to be able to adjust the tone with his great engineering . I bought a custom Walnut cab Fillmore 25 Mesa/Boogie . I passed on the 50 watt cause of the cab size . I'm buying a matching extension 1/12 with the same walnut and wicker grille.......It looks like a late 70's early 80's amp . I love the ole wood grain days . Our Pioneer Receivers , Atari 2600's , The Basement walls .........

Awesome man. I LOVE the sound of Mesas. With the TA and RA series' I think you guys have kinda cornered the market and make every type of amp sound and make the most consistent, best sounding amps in the world. Thanks for making them affordable to boot.

Wire coupling. He gave away a secret right there, a small amount of deliberate coupling to increase harmonics.

It would be 'the' dream to have a twenty-four pack of beer, my 1959 Gibson Les Paul VOS and my favorite 4X12 cab and play those prototypes. I just purchased my fourth Mesa, a Royal Atlantic 100 head, wonderful amp. The rest of the herd includes Triple Rectifier(three channel/parallel loop), Stiletto Deuce II, and Lonestar 2X12. The tone of Randall Smith's amps is the magic that inspires me to play. Not to mention very rewarding when I put them together in pairs, or paired up with other amps. I always find myself playing my Mesa amps more than any other amp/s I own. But one of the most rewarding aspect of owning Mesa Engineering amplifiers is the quality of the build and structural integrity. The other day when I was in an EVH type of swagger, my Stiletto II started to lose volume. A quick call to Mesa support, a brief dialogue between myself and the tech, he advises me to put a certain tube into V3 and V4, which I had in my reserves, and BAM! Stiletto II is up and 'running with the devil' EVH style. Best damn amps around, with honorable mention that they are made in the U.S.A. Thanks Mesa.

Thanks so much for the kind words and so glad we were able to get you back up and running on your Stiletto with a simple tube change. Love that! Really appreciate your comments about made in USA and the durability. These are a few of the things of whiuch we are most proud and it's always nice when it's recognized. Thanks for your support and rock on! :)

People can whine and moan about Mesa/Boogie prices all they want...... but nothing sounds, plays, or FEELS like a Mesa! And they are practically bullet proof. Mesa Amps are all I've played for the past several years and all I will continue to use. They are the perfect blend of quality, tone, reliability, and versatility. Money well spent.
