Ken, Did you say high winds? In my town in Ontario we had not had a tornado for over 50 years then we had 2 within 6 months. The most vivid image from my neighbourhood was a house built in the 1970s where the roof trusses were still held firmly in place by hurricane anchors but the plywood roof sheathing had blown off! I believe in those days the minimum code was 3/8 plywood with 2 inch nails.

Hey Ken, I love the videos, you mentioned using the transit for out in the center of the slab. We do the same as well. You have much more experience than me, but if you take the receiver and put it right onto the rake handle a foot or so up for the bottom,, and set the laser base lower to the ground, you can totally negate the need for a story pole. One less thing to have to hold onto when the mud is flowing. Makes good rakers perfect and bad takes good. Just a thought! Thanks for the videos.

Always like your videos. Informative without being overdone. There's always some neat little trick I learn. Today it was the cutting the facia on the peak. I do have a question: Do you worry too much about the direction you lap your roofing? I always thought it was supposed to lap away from the approach angle. Just a little thing, but one my old man insists on. Either way, your projects always come together slick and look great.

Hi Ken, Love your videos. We have a cabin in northern Michigan and are trying to figure out an addition. Its going to be 24X24 slab great room off the rear of the existing ranch home. The gable of the addition will be a reverse gable. The problem we are having is that with a 4/12 pitch on the cabin, what roof pitch am I going to need to accommodate a loft above the great room? I simply want to be able to put a bedroom above the main floor which will overlook the bottom floor. When I tie the new roof into the existing roof, I'm worried about the curb appeal. Thanks!

Hi Ken, I love the new video edits. Glad to see you're always striving to improve all your products (not that I didn't throughly enjoy the original garage build video). My father is a recently retired union carpenter from the Chicagoland area. Growing up I spent a lot of time on jobs lending my energy, muscle and good joints. As a result, I have a lot of respect and admiration for trades and related small businesses. He spent 1978-2008 framing and triming custom homes in the suburbs, and then transitioned to commercial work in Chicago after the financial crisis. I was graduating high school during the financial crisis, so I assumed construction was too risky of a career for me (id say i was wrong about that lol)--I ended up a tax accountant, about as safe and cushy as it gets lol. I now do a lot of tax, bookkeeping, and advisory work for small business construction companies and their owners. Seeing how comfortably my father is retiring, compared to many peoples personal financial situations i see in my work, gives me more respect for the trade the and value of those skills. I often wonder if I would have had enjoyed following my father in the trades, and then after some time, starting a business like yourself. Id love to hear more about your career experience, and the development of your products and your business. Watching your videos is something my dad and I enjoy doing together, so thanks for sharing!

We do the rakes different down here in Houston. I understand that the stud is nailed into the T-111 and that holds it to the wall but what supports the weight of the rake itself? Does it just hang from the roof sheathing that is cantilevered off of the side wall? This rake in particular seems very wide. Great videos sir....Greetings from Texas....John B.

It’s really strong almost like a truss itself. Nailed through the roof plywood into the rake and nailed into the wall.

I love your presentation. Looking at the truces I can only think, wow, look at that storage space. Is there a good way to utilize that area? Is the side porch going to be screened in? I built in a screen porch for a historical home built in 1908. I had to build everything as if it were in 1908 because the homeowner was part of a city tour and got a tax break, so any improvements had to done by strict guidelines. Came out pretty good by a skinny white girl.

Ken, Do you have a video including an RV garage along side of the standard garage. Great videos by the way!

Sorry we don’t
I guess you’ll be starting new garages soon, sunny and 60’s there. I was up in Albany this weekend and see most areas melted except where I was. There was still 10” on the ground there but should melt this week. I like the redo on the videos but I’m looking forward to new ones.

I noticed the no door on the other side at the beginning and thought, "I'd put another door in..." Haha.
Enjoyed todays build Ken. Looked really nice. Just wanted to say that other Ken in your videos is a hard worker. LoL. Must be a relative of yours.

if someone walks out to the front edge of that roof, over the rake, what holds them ?? Love the condensed video.

Thanks!
I like that

Looks good Ken, as usual. Have a good day and stay safe.

🛑 can you please tell me you have a trusted friend that is doing this same kind of work in California.??? You do great work and your prices are incredible. 👏 👏 👏

A wonderful garage and the screen room off the side is a wonderful touch! I did notice some daylight at the top of the garage doors when they were installed. Is there a way of sealing that off?

Looks fantastic. True professional. Do you ever fit the ply to the frames at your workshop before taking it onsite?

Another great looking garage!! That’s the exact setup I’m looking for. Is the $35,600 at today’s cost? If the cost of lumber would get anywhere back to normal what would the cost be or do you think the cost of lumber now is the new normal for some time to come? Hope I can find some as talented as you and your crew around my area!
