You mentioned you weren’t racing, especially since they didn’t know about it, to get done you asked would they win if they did the very top, the home owner is the ultimate winner.. Nice having Mr. Dan being a taller guy, he can reach the high parts without a ladder, although you were doing the bending work. Looks like it works out in the end. Came back to binge watch this little series, so nice to see quality craftsmanship these days, and you and they guys are top notch.

Also, I like your ladder lift. I watched your video since I am going to build a shop. I might just use a hand crank winch instead of an electric one, since it will be just a one time use. Also why not use rough sawn plywood instead of the T1-11 when adding the battens?

@@kenskarpentry Ken, I am 66 years old and 2 weeks retired. I worked at Hoge Lumber in New Knoxville Ohio for the past 10 years . Been building special wood projects from shipping boxes and countertops to bank teller stations and caskets. I want to build my dream woodshop. The size probably 20' x 36' new England style with 8' sidewalls and 12 x 12 pitch roof on scissor trusses. 2 sets of double hinged doors, 5 or 6 windows and a coupela. I have all my tools, since I was in business myself as The Woodshop Co. of Sidney. 2 tablesaws, mitersaws, drill presses then a radial arm saw, jointer , planer, bandsaw, sander, lathe, mortise machine and air compressor, plus nail guns and routers and drills. Also a dust collector and air cleaner. Do you have any suggestions for the building that I may not know that would be helpful? Also how do you line up the T1-11 siding on the bottom edge? Does it overhang the concrete slab? Is there any drip cap or flashing? I know this is a lot to ask. Thanks Ken

Hey Ken, Thank you for the video's. Quick question, I purchased a home at a tax sale. This property has a 14x30 addition, they used one truss on the back wall. Then framed the roof with 2x6's I believe 4/12 pitch. This was done about 12 years ago, never finished, only a Tyvac. So, you would be correct if you think it's in horrible condition. The two 14 foot walls are very decayed, the 30 foot wall is okay, the roof has some holes from tree limbs. Do you believe one truss is okay or no? I might end up tearing it down to the floor as several 2x10's have broke from a roof leak. Let me know your thoughts on this, I am in Indiana. Doing interior demo this year and plan a complete remodel starting in the spring 2022, hopefully lumber prices calm down some. Thank you.

Thanks for the video Ken! Too many battens for my taste. I think I'd only have installed them at the sheet seams.
Be careful out there, I had 40 years in construction, took a 14 ft fall in 2017 and it took me out. Stepped on a bad scaffold board will hanging siding.

Also, I like your ladder lift. I watched your video since I am going to build a shop. I might just use a hand crank winch instead of an electric one, since it will be just a one time use. Also why not use rough sawn plywood instead of the T1-11 when adding the battens?

T-111 is more economical

Thanks Ken

Ken : Love your videos . I am getting ready to side a shed (16x16) with 5/8" t1-11 should I use screws or nails? and what size and length. I am NOT a carpenter but I enjoy building . Wish I would have done the walls before putting the rafters all was square before the rafters not so much now. Live and learn. Thanks in advance SKIP

Must be nice having ''Big Show'' working for you. I think ''Fail Army'' featured you lifting up a window on your ladder and it falling, getting destroyed ? Is that a real video ? Thanks and always a thumbs up.
ill pay 45 for this at my house, just did grading and crush rock, got a concrete guy ready, but hopefully lumber will go below 1k for 1k board feet, its falling but still 75$ for a 4X8 plywood, criminal.

I don't think this was mentioned in the previous video, but why was that small triangular piece of top section gable end siding installed before the roof trusses?

Yes liking the batteries. The pneumatic sheathing gun is much quicker.
Can you give any information on your electric nailer? All I can find are pneumatic ones, or little electric ones that only shoot brads.

We have dewalt cordless nailers. They have other brands as well.
Thank you.

It sounds pretty rough. Maybe you could salvage some materials.
Ken did you just eyeball the battens off the center lines of the sheathing for plumb?

Why use T1-11 siding just to put battens on it? Is it cheaper than sheathing now?
