Ken the red portion of the crimp is a pro crimp. It has a built in spacer that I like to use when I can find them. It spaces your crimp about an eighth inch from end of fitting to ensure proper fit.

The red rings are for connecting the fitting and pipe together. The difference between the standard crimp ring and this Pro crimp ring is, this one has a red stop that will hold the ring in place and wont allow it to slip off the pipe. These are called Apollo rings.

Kenstead: For pure egg production you do not need a rooster. Those are only needed if you want to breed and hatch your own chicks. So if that rooster's crowing is becoming bothersome, sending him to the crock-pot or soup-pot is a very good, simple [and tasty] solution.

I see a couple of others have already mentioned the drain vent and you said you will be putting it under the sink. That may work as a vacuum break for the drain but will come with two potential issues. 1- It will allow smells from the waste tank/system to come up into the living space. 2- If/when there is a stoppage in the sink drain, the vent under the sink will effectively drain the sink into the cabinet and the floor. You're much better off with a "sanitary t" where that 90 degree fitting is on your drain line with a 1 1/2" vent going straight up through the roof.

  • @kenskarpentry

Not a plumber at all, but have done some house projects with PEX, that little plastic ring is to help keep it in place when put on the pex line. The ones that are just the metal crimp ring have a habit of moving around when trying to crimp them. I have thought of trying the pex cinch rings instead of the crimp ones as the crimp ring tool can take some effort. Mainly when the plumbing connection is an awkward spot, the crimp tool is rough. Good luck on the plumbing. Funny enough my supply line connections have not often leaked in my home projects, but I tend have a devil of a time with drain lines.

Pex clamps should be 1/8 from end those are little spacers. If you butt clamps they will eventually leak. The clamp goes in the ribs of the fittings that's why you keep it from the end of the pipe to much or too little will cause failure.

Have you considered making some 2"x8' raised planter beds between your major projects? They are 18" deep, 1' holes drilled randomly in the bottom, lined with black plastic, punching out the drain holes, then about 1" to 11/2" stone, get some good old black dirt and blend in your mulch till you fill them all up. Do them before winter comes so the soil settles . That way you can top them up in the early spring to be ready to plant your veggies. I think they would do your plants much better than those plastic tubs and pails. Bacin the day when we lived on the farm our veggie patch was 50' square. Yes, I planted Okra, good in soups, but NO kale. Just a thought for you between your major projects. I really admire your skills. Mine were never that good. All I ever learned, back in the day, was yard and garden work.

Lyle is doing what roosters do, not what those of us who never had roosters before think they do - crowing any old time he feels like it, not just to announce the arrival of morning. I use the type of clamp for PEX that has a raised area that is squeezed together to tighten the clamp with a tool that can be used with one hand. I figured the two handed model would be difficult to use as I do not have a third hand to hold the pipe and clamp while squeezing the clamp tool with the other two.

Hey Ken! Love your channel and been watching for a a couple years. As a Master Plumber I can nit pick but overall a good job. Would have liked to see the hot on the left and cold on the right for the kitchen sink stub outs, but it can be corrected with the faucet flex hoses later. Good job cutting the shower opening for the valve too. I’m m 2 years into my chicken game. I had 9 hens and a rooster, but am adding 10 more very soon. Someone who knows chickens helped you with the best breeds or you did awesome research. Thanks for the great videos!

Great work Ken and looking really nice. Was wondering if the bottom of the p-trap might be a little too close to the trailer bed that when hitting road bumps the plumbing might get jostled and cause future leaks and damage. Might recommend raising pipe a few inches before locking into place. Music was great and thanks for sharing. 😁

Mornin' Ken, Sure enjoy your content, but really miss the comradery with you and the boys. Thanks to Lyle and his input, I'll still find enjoyment in viewing, jut not the same though. This build has been very informative and has me wanting it not to stop. Depending on how tall the buyers are, it might be worthwhile considering raising the sink up a few more inches, thus providing even more access space below the sink. A higher counter top for the sink wouldn't interfere with the space above, since there's the window and no way to place a cabinet there. Just rambling and thinking out loud....... Have a GREAT day Ken, I'll be watching for your next video in the morning.

Will you put in a back board to give the mount of the sink more strength? Will you give them an access hole to fix things if they go bad? I think the extra rings on the crimp rings is so you don't go to far down the pipe and miss the barbed nipple. I like the push connect fittings and have had good luck with them.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you need a rooster to get more chickens without a trip to the store or the post office? At least you know when it’s daytime! Batten down the hatches for the storm! The middle is over the Great Lakes, but the edges are still going to make a mess on their way through.

Your right Ken that rooster does crow often. I didn’t notice a vent pipe. Is one installed? I would think it’s to identify the hot or cold if a person was using the same color pex.

Yay, another Ken video! Of course the chickens stop running when you try to film them! I love those big switches you have at the door. Yep, the crowing never stops! I got a lawyer now so some of my anxiety is down since she is giving me good advice to keep costs down. Wow, that does look foggy and in July that's not good! Great that you got the kneeling pad for Ken Sandy! Oh boy, drains for sink and shower. Vent pipe for drains? Out the side of the seasonal cabin right? Maybe in an RV situation like that you don't need a vent for the drains? Good, 2 inch pipe for the shower and nice traps. Ouch! Cutting that hole in the shower surround can't be fun! Nice, you cut it perfect! I did the crimp Pex too! Too bad the mic quit! I like doing the different colors of Pex too for hot and cold to the mixing valves. You are so fun to watch Ken! Nice that you found out that they wanted an open sink with no cabinet below. It's great that you can plumb over toward the wall with the open sink. Perfect getting that support 2x4 level across the shower wall! Nice! You got the blue Pex pipe nestled in there just perfect! Love the plumbing! Take shelter there Ken! Wow, 6 to 7 inches of rain! I hope you aren't in a low spot! Too bad you missed the pool Ken! I'm so glad you are still doing builds Ken! Thank you! Another great video Ken!

Hi Ken I started watching you after I saw you with Al and I truly wished that I had your talent of building. Forgive me if I missed it but did you put a vent in it for the bathroom and sink? Also I found out by my experience underneath the trailer that I wrapped the trap cause the weather froze the water and it broke. I enjoy your craftsmanship 😊

Lyle is getting to be a real rooster, thus all the crowing. Your hens are going to get really beat up by Lyle. If you don't want more chickens, it would be better if Lyle left. I bet Al and Gina would take him. They have a LOT more hens, and don't live right next to the coop. Those spacers are so you have the required 1/8 inch of PEX sticking out from the clamps. It's not necessary if you just put on the clamps the right way. I'm still curious how you are going to install the pocket door.
