SOMEBODY is spending big money on new expensive luxo-barge trucks and EV cars! When Ford comes out with the Maverick Lightning FX-4 or RAM EV Dakota on Goodyear M/T Territory tires with the MAX Towing packages for $33,500 USD only THEN will all-EV trucks and cars REALLY start to take off for the general driving population in the USA and Canada! • @ctuan13

    @ctuan13

    Жыл бұрын

    Yup I've noticed this too. You know why? They're almost all unibody and without a separate fully-boxed frame like let's say the Lightning has, the only way they can reinforce the rear box structure that has no roof is to substantially beef-up the bed sides in thickness. The cab is able to be larger because it has a roof structure to provide strength and obviously they push it even more, because the market for a $100K plus truck is probably not someone who is gonna be using the bed all that much.

So far batteries that need to be replaced I've seen go from 13-20k not including labor. We take long road trips. I can't see getting an EV that forces the driver/owner to find or planned syops at charging stations. I'm not completely sold yet.

    @JonathonBarton

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree, but I also think it's a truck that will work for 90% of the truck owners out there for their 90% use cases. In the US, for more than a decade now, a truck has been "A Car With a Pickup Bed" - and we've seen that with the upper trims getting luxury features and NVH treatments that really rival older S-class Mercedes luxury and NVH. There will be a lot of keyboard warriors on RAM forums complaining that it doesn't tow 11,000 pounds 1000 miles without stopping - but the reality is that the Average American drove 14,263 miles in 2022 - or 39 miles per day - or 54 miles per weekday. Somewhere between 46% (homes with a garage) and 63% (occupied housing with a garage or carport) have access to 120v electricity at home. Even if you don't have a charger at home and just plug the thing into the wall with an adapter on a regular 120v/15a circuit from 6p-6a every day...and charge to 80% over the weekend. You start with 320 miles of range Monday Morning, and end with 196 miles of range on Friday night. For a gas truck, that's like starting with a full 25 gallon tank of gas on Monday, driving 280 miles back and forth to work, and ending the week with the needle just below "F". The analogy would be like taking it to the gas station by your house after work on Friday and only having to put *3.25 gallons in it* to bring it back to full. Not only is there not a gas TRUCK that can do that, there isn't a gas CAR that can do that. (80 MPG, City) If you're one of the 10% who routinely carries a shitton of weight or tows your 40' VOLTAGE toy hauler 5th wheel out to Glamis or Pismo Dunes or Ocotillo Wells SVRA or whatever every weekend - yeah, definitely get the Diesel RAM 3500 Dually for that until the *2034* RAM can fully replace it. Right tool for the job and all that. But for MOST people, the electric one will be just fine. :D

  • @420JackG

    @420JackG

    GVWR will never compete with diesel or gas. Like mathematically, it can't. Not until they develop some kind of super battery that can approach the caloric value of petrol, which will, of course, be incredibly dangerous because a device that stores that much energy is essentially a bomb.

  • @marshalberthier2402

    @marshalberthier2402

    @@JonathonBarton "The right tool for the job". I agree totally. My dad drives between 5200-6000 miles a year with his f150, uses it for truck stuff occasionally and burns through 1/4 of a tank a week. For him an electric truck makes sense given his use of it. I on the other hand have a lawn care business and move around a trailer all day. I tow more that what my truck is rated for only because I got an old truck with a v6 in it lol. But if I had a diesel, I'd be towing 6 or more tons of gravel, mulch, dirt, whatever. I tow now like 2 tons and put 200 or more miles a day. Electric doesn't make sense for me. My concerns are the battery life and cost of maintenance. I personally know several tesla owners with less than 40k miles and the batteries won't charge past %80. Plus I know a bunch of mechanics who won't touch an electric vehicle for various reasons. That means that the few who do work on them can charge a lot for their work right now.

    It gets even better...if they install a track system in the floor...then you could order "RAM KID" child seat and just fasten it in the floor mounted rail system...oh, and it swivels 90 degrees so MOM can easily load up her baby....and when baby gets bigger...they got different size inserts for that mounted seat....imagine a toolbox on one side and your kid on the other...

    Dodge..put provisonal emf collector mounts on the bottom....eventually they will make far right interstate lanes with wires below the concrete...for charging while driving mode...remember those slot cars as kids...same deal...put a 45 mile stretch every so often...UNLIMITED range and no stopping.

    It'll be pathetic. Electric semi trucks don't exist because. . . why? Because they're terrible compared to a diesel semi truck. Hook up a 5000lb trailer and your range drops by 60+%. Do the same with a diesel pickup and it almost doesn't care.

    They are pathetic. I am now completely convinced that I don’t want a EV in my near future. Especially a truck that I would be pulling with . The range and charging give me anxiety. 👎

    Yeah I don't see the point in these pure electric trucks as a working vehicle. Unless you have super fast like V4 megawatt chargers everywhere and like at least a 200kWh battery it will just be a pain compared to using diesel (or gasoline). FOr most people though, they are not towing all the time or taking heavy loads. I think a PHEV design could be very effective and would dramatically reduce fuel costs. There are currently no PHEV pickup trucks...

    Extended warranty would be a must with this truck, not to mention how much the truck will cost.

    A three row pickup, I admit I'd considered the possibility, although I was looking at large E series vans with room for a respectable bed behind the first three rows. The bed on this one looks a little small for a full size truck, and I'm not a fan of rubber band tires but those are always on concept vehicles these days, hopefully the production model will be a little more practical.

    I might pull the second row seats to use as a storage area. Then keep the folding 3rd row seats just in case they're needed. Most of the 150 and 1500 series pickups have 5'6" and 6'6" beds, except for the rare single cab fleet models. One has to go to the 250/350/2500/3500 series to get the 8 foot bed with the crew cab. I like the center pass-through, but I would like it to be about 20'6" or so.

    I really like it. Especially the rear seat area. It would be nice if the rear seats were easily removable I'd always leave them out and put a dog bed back there. If range and price is right I'm interested
