    @@poplaurentiu4148 Yep, a stickier tire will gain some time, even if its only a 1/10th or two. A set of the wheels off the Hummer SUV that's coming would have some better sizes available as its got 22s on it, so that would open up tire choice. Everything in 325/65R18 is either a mud tire or a really aggressive AT.

    The R1T in my driveway was $75k loaded. With a 70% charge it ran 11.83@110.x at LVMS in August. There is an owner in Colorado who ran 11.4 at Bandimere. Very few Lightning "Pros" were sold at $46k. Far more R1T's were sold at $75k. My Lariat-ER is being built 10/24/22. It is just over $90k. The "Pro" was not available, even though I was a Day One reservation. So cost is not apples to apples yet. Do not be surprised if the Pro goes up again in price. Note - The R1T tires are ~34".

    I definitely forgot about speed limiters until the Rivian started pulling ahead, I was thinking between the aerodynamics it might be able to pull ahead further down the line, but not with that change in acceleration. I've never been a huge fan of drag races but it would be very interesting to swap to slightly better speed rated tires and remove the limiters 👍. Fun fact here, the engineers at GM discovered on first testing of the hummer ev that in watts to freedom mode, the hummer had so much power it would pull the front wheels off the ground. Respectively they had to slightly de-tune the "wtf" mode so buyers won't be doing wheelies on the street. They did mention it could possibly be tuned back up eventually if the owner desired. This just goes to show the hummer in all fairness is without a doubt the fastest vehicle here.

    Agreed! The F-150 also appears to have far more space for people and bed size. I think it's the real full-size truck while the Rivian is unibody (think all the common SUVs you see today). Unibody rides nice but isn't built for actual work. Offroading the Rivian would probably break it. If you hit a boulder, high-centered it, or something bad that happens when offroad, the Ford is going to come out okay.

    I grew up in the 70's and we all drove muscle cars. My first car was a '71 Barracuda, that I bought used in 1977. We thought we were fast......There was NOTHING you could buy off the showroom floor that came anywhere close to the acceleration of these trucks. A Hemi Cuda would run about 14 seconds flat in a quarter mile. About 6 seconds flat 0-60, and it was pretty much king of the street. To get a car to run in the 11's back then took a whole lot of modifications, tuning, time and money. Really unbelievable that a Hummer would give a Ferrari a run for the money.

    With skinny garbage tires and mild gear ratios, that's what you get. It's actually much faster and not with expensive mods. It wasn't king of the street as the 440 was quicker. @@stevevice9863 As I explained, put skinny polyglass tires on any of these trucks and they won't either. You claimed expensive mods to get the Hemi in the 11s and it just isn't so. Hell, you can get a '73 SD Trans Am into really low 12s just with slicks and cat removal at the track. Seems you're avoiding the points you made with which i have taken issue and deflecting. I don't think you know much about muscle cars from the late 60s and early 70s and judging from the times you listed, they appear to be original Motor Trend times, who were known to be the slowest drivers around. Reread what I wrote, point by point and prove me wrong.

    My Oh My! Do we have some NEWS FOR YOU! Evidently, FORD has actually listened and is now putting the finishing touches on Jackery-style range extender power packs that will fit in the FRUNK AND IN THE TRUCK BED ITSELF !!! An enterprising engineering student in Northern Michigan saw two of them up-close in the frunk and two in the bed of a Ford F150 Lightning multiple times that were being tested near and about Huron Beach, Michigan during the week starting September 12, 2022. The power packs were seen with four wheels, and what looks to be extending handles and had multiple power outlets including 240V and 120V. It was not possible to see if they had 12V or USB ports. What WAS SEEN THOUGH was a large piece of paper stuck to BOTH POWER PACKS that indicated large printed numbers where one power pack said 25 KW and the other in-frunk power pack said 12 KW. They were seen to be BATTERY-based and NOT liquid-fuel-based! From a generalized MATH point of view, one 25 KW power pack would allow an estimated 30 miles of range extension and the other 12 KW one about 13-to-15 miles of range extension. (Note: one must ASSUME the 25 KW and 12 KW labelling indicates that electrical power output would be for ONE HOUR, they are likely 25 KWh and 12 KWh battery packs! -- the label KW i.e. without the small "h" moniker means that the KW label indicates a continous generator output power rating until a fuel source runs out so I am assuming for VEHICLE USE they are rated for one hour of output). Another two power packs were seen installed into the back when a large heavy duty moving-blanket-like covering was pulled back from the bed. It looked like the power packs were installed via some sort of heavy duty looking clamping mechanism that looked nicely painted and quite well-finished and not-at-all rough nor just slapped together in form. That ALSO MEANS that Ford VERY LIKELY would let customers choose HOW MANY power packs they could buy and that buying four of them (i.e. two in the bed and two in the Frunk) would give you 120 extra miles of EV range which is pretty good AND you get EXTRA PORTABLE 25 KW or 12 KW generators! Since these are power packs, you could remove them at will and just keep extending your range as you see fit. Just drive to the nearest Ford Dealer or authorzied retailer and swap out the power packs for a few bucks for fully charged ones and be on your way! I am assuming they will charge the truck's main battery while driving! WHEN they will be publicly disclosed and sold is now the OPERATING QUESTION! At least we now KNOW that Ford is working on an EV range extending solution for current F150 Lightning owners and for OTHER vehicles such as the likely-in-development EV Maverick, EV Bronco and EV Ranger! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! V

  • @ultradaves
    @ultradaves Жыл бұрын

    The R1T may be faster (marginally) but I certainly would choose a GM or Ford every time. The R1T is a midsize truck, with a tiny bed, it's really more of a impress your friends vehicle, rather than a real full size truck, which it is not. Also, what happens when your Rivian has a recall, or needs a repair, or gets into an accident? We all saw the TFL experience with Tesla, which was a nightmare, and I suspect Rivian is way worse. But in general, BEV trucks make little sense for the ways people use trucks. You can't tow with them, you can't do long road trips, and they are ghastly expensive. One thing to note, Cummins is on track to bring hydrogen combustion engines to the market in the next couple of years. They have committed to the 6.7 l and the 15 liter. Everything is the same as their diesel counterparts except they run off hydrogen. This drop in replacement technology delivers a truck that doesn't weigh much more than the diesel equivalent, has huge range similar to a diesel, can tow like a diesel, and eliminates all the carbon emissions, and 75% reduction in NOX over todays standards. The largest truck stop networks are already planning their hydrogen networks. I see hydrogen combustion engines as being a nice transition platform with great TCO for fleets, and for truck owners who want a real truck solution. Sure, it's not available today, but 12 - 24 months is not that long, especially when you consider how long people are willing to wait for a Rivian or a Lightning or a Chevy Silverado EV. Also, I like being able to fill up in a few minutes, versus the incredible long charge times to fill up a Rivian or Lightning. Remember, I am saying fill up, not just charge enough for 50 miles, 100 miles.
