Raising Our Grandson Due To Addiction ~ Check In

This is our story of how we came to be raising our grandson due to addiction. It's been 6 years since I went and picked that beautiful, happy, amazing little 4month old (at the time) up from the worst place he could've ever been and I would do it all over again a million times over! He's such a blessing to us and to anyone that knows him.
I miss my son more than anything in this world, but I also know he has to make the decision to get the help he needs and to make his life better. I can't do that for him, even though that's hard for Mama's heart to understand. With that being said, his son has become my top priority since that day 6 years ago. His wellbeing, his happiness and his stability will always come first. Hopefully one day my son will come to realize the drugs and the people around him could care less about him, but this sweet boy loves him unconditionally and he'll start making better decisions.
If you're on this same path, please know that I'm always here to be an ear or a shoulder (whichever you need). We're all in different spots on this path and we can all support each other. You're NOT alone!! Please never think you are!

I am also the mother of an addict raising 3 out of my 5 grandchildren. In 2015 when my daughter told me she was pregnant I lived in another state. The closer her due date got I decided to come back home at least until my grandson was born that was 9 yrs ago and I am still here. Long story short in 2017 2 years after my grandson was born my granddaughter was born when she was 5 months old my daughter decided getting high and living in condemned houses was the life she wanted. In 2020 she had her 3rd baby 2022 her 4th he was taken away at birth and placed in foster care the oldest 2 still with me and grandson #2 lived with his paternal grandfather. She went to rehab got grand baby #4 back. When he was 4 months old she got pregnant again and in 2023 my 5th grandbaby 2nd granddaughter was born. I thought she had been clean found out she wasn’t. When my granddaughter was 2 months old she brought her over one morning said here mom I am going to rehab no warning no nothing. That was last June 2023. At this time my daughter is still in rehab I still have the older 2 and for the last year the youngest and the 2 middle boys are living happily with their paternal grandparents.

New to your channel. Thank you for telling your story. So many of us have experienced this either by having addicted family members or maybe even being addicted. Of course when kids are involved it always makes things so much harder. I haven't seen that many videos yet but I'm here along for the journey. Take care.

You folks are rockstars. Despite what we are led to believe, heroes walk beside us everyday but we don't always know it perhaps because, like you folks were, they keep their 'situation' bottled up inside. You say you're not patting yourself on the back, well I'm giving you folks a huge pat on the back. Keep going, you're doing great.

Thank you for sharing your story with the world. My respect for you and your husband is absolute, it is such a weight to carry, even though the joy of your grandson being safe and in your life makes all the struggle worthwhile.

He was injured playing football in high school and had to have surgery on his shoulder. They gave him pain pills for that. He had done weed, that I know of, before that but the pills opened a whole other door for him and he jumped right through it
