Hey everyone, I finished my biggest animated solo project (up to now)!
‘Raised by Bats’ is one of my most favourite songs by Aurelio Voltaire because to me, the message is ‘Be true to yourself’.
I was bullied throughout my entire childhood due to race, looks, etc.
(living in a small town doesn’t help much, ‘cause everyone knows everyone!)
and my parents would always say: “People will like you more/You will be happier if you don’t dress in black and look like ‘this’ all the time.” and they were… wrong!
Do NOT under any circumstances change yourself for the approval of other people in your life. Improving negative traits and working on yourself is good, friends and family can help you with it but you are your own person and you are worth it. Healing comes with time and if you’re reading this, know that there are people who love you for who you are.
This music video took me a long time to make since I had to put it on hiatus a couple of times due to studies, personal reasons, and then lastly in 2020 when the entire world went into lockdown. But after all of that, I can finally contently close this chapter.
Of course, there are things that I wish I could do over, but at one point you've got to let go.
I learned a lot during the process of this passion project, and I think you can see the developments throughout the video. I hope you enjoy it.

The animation is honestly smooth and badass! Also... I see SO MANY REFERENCES AND I LOVE IT. Elvira would have her own bakery, also, Mandy sneaking Grim into the theater is classic for her.

Finding new animations for Voltaire songs is such a great feeling! Voltaire opened for me so many things, and seeing his works appreciated just makes my heart happier. Raised by Bats is an amazing choice for an animation! And the animation itself is just so smooth and pleasant to watch! I can't imagine how many hours you've put into that, but you really should be proud of what you've made! I wish you all the best in your future projects, and I hope more and more people will see them!

Voltaire's music is amazing and it got me through some rough times in my youth, so this animation was a kind of "Thank you for everything". :) I am working on a few shorter animations! Not Voltaire-related but maybe one day in the future I'll make another music video!! Amazing Work. I love videos like this because the love the artists and storywriters put into it is so obvious and voltaire's songs have so many great story ideas. I think this should be developed into a show or even a book. A kid whose family doesn't care for him and his community hates him runs away and is raised by a colony of bats in an abandoned monastary. 10/10 I'd watch/read that!! Also I have to ask, after the bully punches the bat it looks like Voltaire says "Dad", were you going for that or am I reading too deeply?

Actually, he's saying "'Zhar!" A small thing actually, I decided on the name Balthazar for the little one. But now that you mention it, it really looks like dad if you aren't aware of the name 🤣🤣🤣 should've made him yell 'NO'

This makes me feel so warm inside. The animation is gorgeous and I love how he seems to be a genuinely nice dude that can kick your arse if you make him angry. You did a great job capturing the vibe of the song!

I'm glad you are excited to see more! I have tons of ideas for other music videos based on Voltaire's songs, my favourite choices being: Masquerade or the Mechanical girl! But for now I'm going to take it easy and work a bit more on my self before I take on another big project like this. :)

I'd watched this before, but coming back to it now I'm amazed that I missed so many little details on my earlier views. I am _amazed_ at how well you captured the Lair in this video! All the ornate furniture, shelves of knicknacks, and other little details, just for the background...it's perfect, and I honestly don't know how I completely ignored that before now. So awesome.

The storyboard is so creative. I can't even imagine how long this ARTwork took to animate. With my whole heart, i want Voltaire to see this now 🦇

Animating this took me 2 years because of the pandemic breakout and interruptions of all kinds. But the entire project took around 5 years with 3 of them being on Hiatus due to my studies :) It was a lot of hard work, sweat, and tears but I'm happy with the result overall!! Voltaire has seen it already he said he loved it on instagram!

My wacom bamboo tablet was unusable at some point because the tips were worn out and they discontinued making those specific ones ages ago 🥲 he served me well.
I also noticed there was an Elvira's bakery and the vampire club was on the same street corner
There's also a hot topic themed store right behind him before the bully punches him
