Raise your Redshift Game: Layering Materials

Фильм және анимация

Join Maxon Trainers Elly Wade, Lionel Vicidomini and Dustin Valkema as they dive into some exciting techniques using Redshift. Throughout this four-part series the team will breakdown interesting new ways to increase your Redshift rendering skills. From rendering particles and volumes, to building complex layered materials and even jumping into sub-surface scattering!
Master Trainer Dustin Valkema walks us through his workflows on building complexity in materials using Redshift inside Cinema 4D. Dustin discusses how he approaches material building and his methods behind the task. Be ready to learn some fun workflow tips and tricks to create surface and color breakup, as well as complex masks to make the most out of your material creation process.

Thank you for this, is awesome. The only concerning part is how to keep up with the software updates. Please more tutorials from Dustin!

Also worth noting: when you're manipulating the ramp values, there's a little button to the right that looks like a fork (graph) that's "linear numeric values" once I clicked that, my 5% became about 20% and THEN when I slid it back down to 5% it started to look like the result they're getting here.

Is there a possibility to connect several materials with a float at once? Especially in the new node graph?

Can't seem to figure out where to plug the noise into the ramp in the new node workflow. Gives a bunch of options that all seem to go RED when I attach them... Edit: I juuust found it. "Alt Input"

what is in return for "RS Layer Color" in 3dsmax? there is "RS Color Mix" in 3dsmax but its a bit different,I have to use composite node to do the same

To show users the power of Redshift I would like to request a tutorial on procedural texturing of Poison Dart frogs or of colorful crabs to show precise coloring possible using nodes, fields, vertex maps, etc. It could be great marketing to show the power of what can be done. Thanks in advance!

at 1:03:50 Lionel is picking a color (HSV: 26*, 11%, 18%) I enter the same numbers and get a different color! His is a lot darker than mine. I have to set the value to 3% to get the same color.. (I opened the attached project file so I guess the project settings should be the same as his..) Any idea why?

Apparently, you can't use Store Color to AOV for materials in Redshift if you have more than one material on an object. Checking Add Material on the material tag has no effect either. You get a Redshift errors saying Illegal combination of shader nodes and "...is not permitted to be executed after a material shader"
