    Since RS 3.0.46 and the introduction of ACES, it's no longer necessary to set up the gamma of the files manually... theorically. Most of the time, it works, and RS will interpret roughness, bump, normal etc... map as linear and will keep albedo, color, diffuse as sRGB automatically. It can fail sometimes, so It's still interesting to know how to do it manually.

    Everything is fine, thank you for the information. Just one question - why are these four smart faces on the left side of the screen? What useful information do these people carry, except that they take away a part of the screen where the material settings could be shown larger )) And so yes, it is interesting, informative. Thanks.

    Why do you need to change Gamma Override?

    Bitmap are interpreted to sRGB which has not a linear response in contrast/luminosity. While it's perfectly fine and desirable for color textures such as the base color, it is a problem for "technical" inputs such as roughness, bump map etc... So we must apply a "linearize" operation, putting back the gamma (contrast) to linear (1) so that the maps do correctly their job. Note that you don't need to do that on maps generated by RS itself, such as a noise or a ramp.

    @@evolnull125 Yes. The only exception is when using EXR file which are already linearized (but you usually don't use EXR in the color channel)

    Preview thumbnails are often black, maybe you need to allot some GPU power to those 🤤

    As long as you're rendering the viewport or the Renderview, previews won't update. It's a material limitation of RS :( Hopefully, this will be fixed at some point later.

    really painful to watch guys. need some better flow and organization. I got so bored....and I really want this info but its not digestable.
