If someone ever asks what masculine friendship and love is, this is it. Protecting a friend who doesn't realize he needs protection.

I agree on the your definition on Masculine love. It's not a gay thing or fleeting feelings. This is earned through hard work, whether it's fighting or building, but it's as deep as a couples love when you've spilled blood and slept on the same ground with

According to a bit of research I've done ( I'll do more to make sure of this) apparently the Vikings were actually very accepting of the idea of another God since they believed in many gods it didn't sound crazy to have this Christian God pop up now I don't know how they felt though people switching to Christianity but it seemed like they were okay with it to an extent. And his line about the gods being friends isn't too far fetched either.

@@scottritchey573 I think Ragnar liked to be passive-aggressive. He originally mocked the Christian Gods, kidnapped Athelstan and made him a slave to his family. Floki was a good and loyal friend but Ragnar taunted him with his friendship with Athelstan. Just like when he slept with Aslaug while married to Lagertha. Once he found out she was pregnant and he could have another son he moved her into Kattegat and expected Lagertha to accept that he would have another wife never considering her feelings. He treated Rollo poorly, too, at times. Ragnar didn't treat those he 'loved' very well. When Ivar was a tiny baby he took him out in the forest and left him to die because he didn't want people thinking he could produce a son who wasn't healthy and strong. Poor Ivar could have been eaten by a wild animal. Thank goodness Aslaug saved him.

This is what true brotherly love looks like. Ragnar had a purpose for walking with Athelstan sure, but he would have gladly done so anyway. Echbert desired this same bond with Ragnar in his heart I think, but no one was so loved by Ragnar as this man ever again.

they wernt just friends, they were brothers. Both of them from different faiths and beliefs didnt judge each other. they were more curious about each others ways. This is true friendship right here. Athelstan didnt judge Ragnar for his beliefs. but his viking brothers and sisters would have. that is why Ragnars best friend is Athelstan. because he trusted him. he could tell him anything and be honest. i love this friendship so much. its always stuck with me even years after watching the series

That's why I don't understand how this show hasn't won any awards for this series. From season 1 to the end of the series this show never had any bad scenes or a bad season in my opinion. Travis really killed the role of ragnar lothbrok, but for all of ragnar's 5 sons the actors straight up killed their roles for protraying all of his little details to all of his mannerisms spread out into 5 different individual.

It's kind of like this with my cousin. He's Christian and I don't really believe in anything so we have long interesting debates and discussions about our beliefs, our points, our hopes, and our arguments. It's so fucking refreshing to have a genuine, calm, productive, RESPECTFUL discussion with someone about something you don't agree upon. You don't have to agree to converse, you just have to RESPECT!

The greatest love story of Vikings. The ONLY PERSON that Ragnar never betrayed. The only time he remotely got close was Uppsala. Even then you had to sacrifice what was most important to you.. and he was beyond thrilled that he wasn't chosen.
