Radonda told everyone what she did, and the neurologist said she died of a brain injury and the examiner said she didn’t know the dosage? 🙃🙃🙃

You need to have your OWN malpractice insurance. DO NOT believe that the facility you are working for says that they will cover/ back you. They will eat you alive.

Most malpractice insurance will only cover civil cases and not criminal. Therefore, a private policy would not have helped her in this case anyway! Terrible!

why isn't anyone mentioning the RN who witnessed this whole process of the medication error? Why didn't this RN intervene to prevent this from occuring?

I have been an OR nurse for more years than l care to admit. Drug paralytics only belong in one Pyxis. Surgery where the patient is monitored, intubated, and on a ventilator. Vanderbilt pharmacy is liable for setting the nurses up for such medication errors. Vanderbilt should be the ones being prosecuted. What else have they got away with?

So the family grabbed the cash, signed the agreement and, quite some time later, still cried on the witness stand....and you are the only one I've heard reporting on the settlement thus far (although I haven't read everything out there)....

Yes the nurse made several mistakes but the company should have had way more verification fail safe measures stopping this from happening. How many hours did she work that day? how many days did she work that week? she was training someone. Nurses work long hours many days in high stress environments which makes you prone to make mistakes. Therefore, the company should have various fail safes to ensure that if mistakes do happen they are caught it can’t be all on the person as we can see that is flawed. That’s like taking a test and grading it. It shouldn’t work like that someone or something should be checking over her work. This is sad that they are choosing to do this and make her an example as we need nurses nobody is perfect the system needs to be set up to not allow this to happen.

My main issue is this seems to be such a one sided placement of blame. Max punishment for the nurse, nothing for Vanderbilt

I believe that there are to separate issues. I am hoping we will see more info on Vanderbilt receiving more penalties or some one bring some type of lawsuit, and it will be covered in media. R. Vault is not a scapegoat. She made mistakes that lead to a sentinel event. I believe being found guilty was appropriate. Do not want jail time for her. Not many others are seeing another mistake she made. She was instructing another nurse that the mistakes she made were okay. Could he have ended up being another nurse now in Radonda's shoes?

I don’t think anybody is arguing that she is innocent and should still be practicing as a nurse. They are saying they do not believe homicide charges with jail time are warranted. It is one thing to be found guilty by the board of nursing, but quite another to be found guilty by a court of law

Malpractice covers costs to my knowledge. Will not protect against criminal charges

I know I'm in the minority disagreeing with so many of my fellow nurses, but no one but RaDonda was responsible for her fatal med error. To be clear, Vanderbilt is far from blameless here; they broke the law and tried to cover up this event. I talk more about my opinion in a vlog video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZK6D2M9qidO_mtY.html.

She’s definitely not innocent. However, the homicide charges are novel in this case. And this video is more about Vanderbilt
