    No kidding; I had this on autoplay in the background, and would have NEVER figured it was a live outdoor cut. I'm sure they did a little cleanup in post, but still absolutely nailed it.

    There's a VERY short list of bands from the 90's (Radiohead, The Pixies, Godspeed You Black Emperor, etc.) where you'd hear a recording, and say "Yea that sounds amazing but there's no way in hell you could pull that off live), and then you see them live and think "Holy sh*t that might be BETTER than the recorded version!". Unreal talent.

  • @smarroy

    @smarroy

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Microphones/Mount Eerie/Phil Elverum have that same thing but in a reverse way - so much of the beauty of the recorded versions are the found sounds and the ambience and the way he knits it all together and makes it feel warm and breathing and lived in, and then you have the privilege of seeing him in the basement of an old church, by himself, switching back and forth between an acoustic guitar and an old piano that I think just happened to be at the venue, and you hear the songs stripped of everything but the rhythm and the melody and the words and you realize that all that beauty you found in the sounds he created was in service of the song he had written, and as much as those sounds add to them, removing them doesn't diminish their beauty at all. Anyway, they're pretty good

    I think I have too, if it's 20 years since The Bends was released? I consider them the last of the seminal English bands. Musicians that are in a league of their own, who sound like nobody else and have created their very own sound/art. The sad thing is I don't think there'll be any more after them, they are the final act in a play that started with the Beatles. The baton was then passed to the likes of Pink Floyd, a couple of other bands like New Order and The Smiths came after that in the 80's, then Radiohead in the 90's, and there it ends.

    What is it about Radiohead that makes me feel like I’ve come home and puts me into a trance all at the same time. Soul salve. I love music, all kinds…I have my favorite bands that I respect the musicality of their work….but Radiohead is like stepping in to a grand cathedral. This song especially demands reverence, introspection, grace, openness, oneness, self acceptance and ultimately patience…my personal take. Out of the 18 million views of this video, I think at least 1000 are mine. I meditate to this song, it reaches the depths of my subconscious unlike any Tibetan singing bowl. A Spotify version would be nice ;)

    So has anyone else noticed that this was shot in the same exact spot on the same exact day as the video previously released, "Present Tense: Jonny, Thom & a CR78". They are wearing the same exact clothing and everything is in its right place (pun intended). Unless they just wore the same exact outfit or we caught them at the beginning of a wash cycle. This could be the next live recording, "Radiohead - Live from the middle of the woods - A Moon Shaped Pool". We can only hope.
