We had a campsite that we went to a few times a year, and had a tailless raccoon that would greet us whenever we got there. We named him "Eggbert" for some reason, and he'd chill by the campfire and politely wait until one of us handed him a hot dog or something. Very well-mannered raccoon.

There is nothing more fun and I think, meaningful, than cavorting with another species from the wild. The best years of my life were watching my cat sit on the back porch with Mama and baby possums, all eating their dinner together. Seeing the baby possums up on the railing, eating grapes with the moon behind them. The squirrels, birds, wild turkey, skunks (that did not run when they saw me but stood shyly by knowing I was one of the good ones}. Taking walks with my cat, day and night . . . pet sitting. At the end of my life, these will be the memories I treasure most. Animals that I bonded with over the years have brought me a deep respect for nature and all living things like nothing else. (As usual, the music in this video is a riot! Dodo has some great video editors).

That is really neat you talk about the possums and the skunks I’ve always referred to skunks, as the greeting party for the forest anyway when it comes down to the possum remember this they eat ticks and speaking of ticks when you go out to maybe cut firewood or something like that take a spray bottle and put Listerine in it and spray your pants and maybe up on your ankles and your shoes and things like that that keeps him from getting onto you this is Jim mungai from kennerdell Pennsylvania

This video is very similar to my situation. I moved into a house and the first year we had an unusual bad winter. That's when I met Raku. She was starving and I knew this because I was already familiar with raccoons from growing up in the Ozarks. I fed her and fast forward three years she still comes for dinner along with her adult daughter Raisin. Wildlife is running out of hunting and habitat due to urban sprawl and overpopulation. It is up to us to change this and help them any way we can. Bravo to you lady, I also plan on getting involved in rehabilitation of wildlife.

In my county a decision was made to create wildlife areas while still allowing home creation. Every home must be on 5 acres. So if a farm is purchased, say 100 acres, the builder can build 20 homes. About 25-30yrs ago the change was made. The same 100 acres can have 25 or 30 homes but each home gets 1 acre and they must be built close together to create community, decrease road surface and allow for the remaining 70-75 acres to be conservation areas for wildlife. It allows our county to preserve the feeling of “country”, gives wildlife land to live. There have been glitches. One deer 🦌 overpopulation. Sounds pretty but not enough food and lots of car accidents. Answer: Special hunting licenses are issued that allow hunters to hunt outside of the regular hunting season. They have rules they follow. All deer shot are taken to DNR and assess for health and size. Then the healthy deer are sent to a processor, the resulting meet is given to our local food banks for distribution to the hungry. Many food banks can’t afford good lean meats. No one is required to take it, it is just offered. It has been a great community solution and healthy for the deer population. It’s devastating to watch deer starving or with CWD due to overpopulation. For homeowners there are forests, privacy and they don’t have to maintain 5 acres.

I can relate, I fed a couple of cockies when a neighbour who used to feed them died, next thing I know I've got 9 great big birds filling my little courtyard & then they obviously told another flock, cause I had 22 of them sitting on my roof waiting for food lol. I said enough is enough with that one & didn't feed again till the second flock left, 9 is more than enough! & mine just come around to play too, not just for food. I've just bought them some dog smart toys to keep them amused lol I'm hoping I might even get my hose & cleaning basket back for that purpose, cause currently it's apparently a great "sit on & throw things out of" toy (birds enjoy dropping things as a game, so all my hose parts, brushes etc apparently are fun to do that with)

People need to stop feeding them by hand and letting raccoons get used to people, because not EVERY person is going to be nice to them. One day they're going to approach some psycho, someone who hates non-human animals, kids, etc.. and that's it, they're going to be injured or dead. If you want to feed them, throw the food far into the backyard or wherever and let them find it, but don't encourage them to come close to you, your house or wherever. You're not doing them any favors.

How cute. I had a raccoon and possum that would come into my bedroom, every night, to get food and clean water. We, also, helped a slightly injured crow, by providing it a safe place to recuperate, food, and water...after four days, it was able to fly again, but always stayed close by - we named it Carl, and every time we called, the crow knew to fly down and get food. Then, we lost our home to a fire. We have just moved back onto our property, in the woods, and have started getting regular visitors, again....deer, possum, raccoons, and Carl. My 90-year old father goes out, daily, and spreads fruits/vegetables, breads, seeds, etc, to make sure all the critters have something to eat.

Oh my, you are so wonderful for taking care of them and loving them. Most wild animals can tell if a human is safe or not. They can sence your enery field and they know it's ok when they get closer to you. Bless you for what you are doing.🤩

I'd love to read the Yelp review that Roxie left. "Great food, lovely ambience, decent service. Love the buffet spread, and the family atmosphere. Could do with a more welcoming entrance, but still, 4 out of 5 stars!"

I've had quite a few wild animals over the years and the most mischievous were my raccoon and fox, the raccoon I had since it was born so he was allowed in the house but you couldn't leave him alone for too long or he'd go through everything lol. He loved people and anyone who gave him attention was his best friend, had him for 7 great years.. Now the Fox I had saved after she was hit by a car and just left for dead, I got her patched up and after that she'd come around like Roxie here and only really liked/trusted me and one day she just never came around and I'm hoping she started a family and went off to do her own thing.. After that I've also had a whitetail deer, coyote, skunk and a grey squirrel all were pets throughout the years except for the Fox which stayed wild. I learned a lot from each one and I loved every second I spent with them all. Now I just a pup but if there's a animal in need I'll be here to help them out and hope they can go back to the wild and live the life they were meant to have. After having those wild animals as pets I felt/still feel selfish for getting them used to needing me to live, I don't mind helping but just enough to get them better so they can again go back to their lives in the wild.. Anyways this was great and definitely reminded me of many great years and memories I made with some very special/unique animals so thank you for sharing this story with us all. 🙏🙏
