We had a pet juvenile rescued raccoon once for a while before he went to a sanctuary... Imagine the world's cutest, but *naughtiest* 2yo, with ADHD & hopped-up on sugar.

So, basically you just need to hide their food in a place they can get to and let them find it.

When I lived in an apt complex, they put planks in the dumpsters so the raccoons could get out and wouldn't get dumped into the garbage trucks. Rascals.

Basically, if you’re trying to keep a raccoon as a pet, just know that raccoons live 1-3 years in the wild, but 30 years in captivity. It would be like having a 2 year old for 30 years.

As someone who keeps exotics it doesn't take that long to domesticate an animal you just have to know about the animal and what drives them the most and use it to build trust and train

Gotta remember to also do your research on state laws if ur looking to have raccoons in the US! Some states allow people to own them while in others it’s very illegal. Getting caught housing one could get them taken off you and can land you with some hefty fines. Overall it’s probably best to keep these guys wild! ❤❤

I had a friend who befriended a civet cat (spotted skunk) that was pretty chill. It would come by to visit every night. Sometimes it would hang out, sometimes not. He put food and water out for it, but it was wild -- definitely not a pet.
