@@scipiosmith3570 They did NOT "do this to themselves." Common rabies originated in Asia or eastern Europe. Humans brought it to the New World. Not all lyssaviruses jump species, and the ones native to the Americas have remained bat specific. Rabies is the only lyssavirus here that affects multiple kinds of mammals, and it was introduced.

They made a horror movie out of it, Rabid. It's a sort of Zombie movie, the rabies if I remember correctly was caused by some Demonic being originally. They had a cure but the movie ends with the main woman in a room talking to her lover and a man in there she thought was dead gets up and walks over to her, he stands over her and she says "I'M SCARED"! into the phone, then the screen goes black.

@@62202ify yea it’s super scary. I’ve seen videos with animals having it and it’s so sad and terrifying, looks like one of the worst deaths out there. Then unfortunately I looked up human cases and that made me even more sad . Once a person actually has symptoms there isn’t anything doctors can do. That’s why I have taught my kids if they EVER come into contact with a wild animal especially during the day to stay away from it ! And if they ever get bit or scratched by one to immediately let me or dad know . One of the scariest diseases out there

@@mayettaxtriger436 no lol, humans are literally the same. We have just as long as they do, ergo, as long as the disease remains in the incubation period. Once it begins to replicate virally it cannot be stopped before either permanent brain damage or death in almost every case. There have been a select few that have survived and you can count them on one hand. The scary thing is the incubation period can be as short as a week to as long as six months. And with batbbites, or bushmeat you may not even know if you've been exposed. This is why the ONLY thing you can do if you've been bitten by a wild animal is to IMMEDIATELY go get rabies immunoglobulin shot regimen. This happened to me once, and without the immuno vaccine, I wouldn't be walking this earth right now.

Only one, a human, survived and she only did because the doctors cut open her skull. It allowed the brain to swell freely, and then the body was able to let the virus run it's course. Unfortunately she had to relearn ALL basic motor functions. Even if it's a miracle you survive, it really messes you up. :(

Is this near Canyon Lake, Texas? The racoon was spraying contaminated saliva everywhere almost in an aerosol mist, and was urinating on itself a little bit, all which contaminated the porch deck, & cage with rabies. All those aerosol mist droplets that wet the porch, and cage has rabies.

The pain in its face is heartbreaking

Thank you for catching it and calling someone to collect it. Rabies is awful and any creature suffering from it needs to be put out of its misery to not only end its pain, but to protect other animals, pets, and humans from becoming infected.

@@ohsnap7879 You can clearly hear a woman in the background calling animal control, and as the video description states, the guy doesn't have a firearm, so what is he supposed to do? He did the right thing: contact professionals, get the animal contained, and waited for help. If he tried anything else he might have gotten bitten himself. As sad as these videos are its useful for people to film the effects of rabies for other people so that they can see the symptoms and be aware of them in their own day to day lives.

I didn't have anything I was confident putting the raccoon out of its misery with. I would have had to bludgeon it with axe or shovel which would not have been humane. We did what we thought was best and it confirmed rabies was in our area.

I was a nuisance trapper for approximately 12 years and removed several rabid raccoons over the years. Some were stumbling "drunk" and uncoordinated and others were rage filled and aggressive. That looks like drunk rabies or even distemper.

This poor little guy. I’m remembering all the people and animals who had to die such a terrible way. I hope they’re in a better place now.

It really is sad seeing an animal get rabies. Yea, there’s a vaccination for it, but once an animal that hasn’t been vaccinated has got it, they’ve got it and there’s no stopping it. The unfortunate best choice at that point is to just put them down.😞

Is that the same/similar symptoms to humans that have it? - I'm not sure I want to search for videos on here of human rabies, but one thing I definitely will do. If ever I get bit by any wild animal, I'm going to get a shot. 1000% Hope you're good.

Once an animal contracts rabies, death is a gift at that point.

The seizures are like an attack on the psyche, eventually they come out of it one time and theres no more animal just walking rabies

I had a cat that would occasionally have a full-blown grand mal seizure (I discovered later due to mold in the walls). Every time after he came out of it, he would be panting from the exertion and meowing with confusion. I felt so sorry for him.

Imagine if a rabies outbreak occurs, and it's just like the movie "Quarantine", where the virus spread out so fast, and everyone turns...

The brain needs to be kept intact for biopsy. It's literally the only way to 100% confirm rabies.

As someone who has a racoon as a pet this breaks my heart.... racoon are soo sweet and loving and don't deserve this

Wait till you see a human with it. I think there’s a video called “rabies 1” and it’s a educational video. You see a young Indian child being offered water but the rabies virus causes Hydrophobia (fear of water) and every time water is being offered to him, he kicks and screams and tries to get away. Hydrophobia is the scariest symptom of rabies, considering our bodies are made up of 70% water.

Poor thing looked like it was going through those seizures for weeks, his eyes were extremely exhausted once he came around.

That's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen that is heartbreaking at the same time

When I was a kid, I thought the disease was called gravies and you got it from eating spoiled gravy. It took me along time to enjoy fries with gravy.

My family had an encounter with a rabid raccoon this morning. We ended up putting it down because we have a chicken coop, and 3 pets. Couldn’t risk anyone or anything getting hurt, and I’m sure as hell glad we put it down. No one likes seeing animals suffer

Poor guy. All I see is a life that’s suffering. Doesn’t matter what kind of life it is, it’s so sad

My sister had a rabies scare as a child. My mom proceeded to tell me, at 5 years old, a full breakdown of rabies. That story has NEVER left me.
