Surely, one of the most chilling scenes in all of opera.

My favorite scene in all of opera!

Why do all these opera scene clips cut off as soon as the applause begins? Seeing the audience reception is an intrinsic part of the performance to any true opera lover!

Deborah was still in fabulous voice in this selection. She may be at the end of her opera career, but she leaves a 25 year legacy of great singing.

…..who you never saw onstage! You’re just familiar with her Solti/Culshaw recording. Yes, I saw Nilsson sing this final scene in a concert, and I was in the theater. She was great. But I’ve also seen Jones, Behrens, and several other singers perform this role in the theater, and they were just as good as Nilsson. There’s a lot more to Salome than just blasting high notes.
