For anyone dealing with an unsupportive/abusive/otherwise toxic family, GET AN ADVANCED MEDICAL DIRECTIVE. Get an official, legally binding document saying that in the event you are incapacitated, certain people have your permission to make decisions regarding your care and other people do not. It could save a lot of heartache, and it could even save your life.

I think i know why Justin's family showed up. The accident was planned. The car drove directly into Justin, through a stop sign, and then the family showed up at the hospital despite having no way to know about the accident. Also keep in mind that the family thought Justin deserved / needed punishment in order to get redemption for rebelling against their religion. I'm not saying this is what happened, but it's possible. If so, Rae and Justin should be careful. Also, regarding the family showing up late, maybe they were planning what the next move was, waiting to be less suspicious, or just doing crazy cultist stuff. Again, I am not saying this is what happened, but it could very well be possible.

It depends on the labor laws in your area. As OP said, in his area, they could fire him for almost any reason. There is a city near where I live, one company owns all the phone lines in the city. So if you live there you have only one choice for phone and internet services. Well, you did untill mobile (cell) phone companies started offering broadband. The company that owned the phone line was run by a complete dick who only got his position through nepotism and had enforced policies of piss poor customer service and overcharging because for 20ish years because you didn't have any other choice. Mobile phone had cut into the business pretty badly already, but they were holding on because they controlled the internet access. The company was on the verge of bankruptcy within 2 months of home broadband being offered, everyone was switching to mobile because it cost half as much and customer services would actually help. Then the mobile companies announced they were rolling out business services. It sent the phone company into a panic. They threw want money they had at training customer services to actually do their job and slashed the prices to a competitive rate. The owner quietly quit, it wasn't a do nothing job anymore so he sold the company to a rival company. They still run a monopoly on the city but the service improved so much people outside the city actually sign up now.

@@realrealwarpet Yeah, the overall feeling is a bit more JW than mormons, but from what I hear there are mormon communities pretty much like the cult described here, so it might just as well be one of those. It's really troubling how many people are in these religious groups that push you to stupid decisions like marrying really young and without actually getting to know your partner before that. If it was the Silent Hill cult I think OP would have mentioned the radio going crazy at some point or maybe described some giant bat-like thing, so I wouldn't bet too much money on that option. ;)

I actually doomscrolled down here expecting people to assume it was my church and found one set of comments with a very petty argument going on... I didn't toss in much because they think what they want but seriously, we're just trying to live our lives like other Christians (hopefully better than some considering some of the crap going on lately) and we have to be associated with these weirdos who live in communes or who won't let people use their free will.

As someone who used to work customer support for an ISP, I am not the least surprised about that last story. Our techs were absolutely awful at their jobs. It could take months for them to fix something. Some of them would make "temporary solutions" and then never return. One genius dug up a hole in a customers yard to access the cable, then pulled a cable in through the window and plugged it in to the router. He promised to be back next week to create a more permanent solution. That happened in April. They called us in September asking where the hell he was. He had just left they guy unable to close his window and with a massive hole in his backyard. To make matters worse, this was during a time when my country was slowly dismantling the ADSL cables and replacing them with either fiber or wireless solutions. So if a ADSL cable was too tricky to fix, they just took the entire line down. This resulted in customers waiting several months for a fix, and when the techs eventually arrive they just dismantle the line and tell the customers to get wireless. When they could have used that information months ago. One time they just close a bunch of tickets and set them as "completed" when they hadn't even been there to look at the problem. Their excuse was "Well we had too many tickets". Whenever their shitfuckery reached the customers they always called support to yell at and insult us. Even though we hated those assholes more than they could imagine. So yeah, I am not at all surprised the support staff OP talked with were more than happy to comply with her wishes. They were most likely ecstatic that a customer understood who the real culprit was. Don't yell at the customer support when the techs don't do their jobs. The techs aren't answering phones. And the people who do answer phone hate them more than you do. And most likely the company as well. They'll likely be more than happy to help you fuck over the company if you're nice to them and can provide them with a loophole that allows it. I did that several times. Fuck ISP's. And fuck the field techs.

8:27 now I'm not gonna point fingers, but what if, and this is a big IF, Justin's own parents were the one's ran him over, I don't have all the facts but I do have reason to believe that it was them, especially by the fact they think suffering is the road to redemption, again I don't know for sure but it's highly likely

As a very passive aggressive person, I would gladly flood a company with tickets when they are just being stupid and unhelpful for no reason. My internet company did something like this. I was having major connection issues and was on the phone trying to solve it. The guy kept insisting they needed to send a rep to check the lines and most likely replace the box. But also that he could fix the issue but that it would be temporary and would 100% be done the next day. 6 months later it has yet to have the same issue, so that guy can go screw himself. I gave them a headache with changes to a service call for a week until I ultimately canceled it as revenge.

The person that hit Justin with the car was in the cult. As like OP said, there's no way they could've known he was in the hospital. Internet connection isn't a human right, it's an extra luxury that we don't need.

the past year has made very clear that for a lot of people the internet isn't just an unnecessary luxury but is an absolute necessity. of course there are plenty of people who do just fine without it, but there are also plenty of people that absolutely need it.

Justin's story reminded me of my uncle's very sad life story. My grandpa and grandma had a child out of wedlock in the late 60s/early 70s. That was my mom; she was raised by her grandma and her husband. She had a great childhood - she still says, that she even got the father she wanted. (She dreamed, that the nice neighbor would be her father and then she learned that he was.) My grandpa came from a very abusive mother, who cheated him out of his farm somehow. He went NC and started his own farm and married and had his second child, my uncle. My grandpa lived for his farm. For a while it was the most modern beef farm in a state, that is known for cattle raising. His wife had been a seamstress and was forced to adapt to working on a farm. His son was often locked in his room as a child, so he didn't get in the way of the farm. This abusive behavior led to my uncle becoming a very difficult teenager. Eventually he moved to a neighbor, got a job as a trainee in town and even became a Christian. Life was finally starting to look up. Then one day it happened. My uncle had a motorcycle accident on his way to work. It was bad. My mom still gets tears in her eyes, when she sees a motorcycle crash. The paramedics removed his helmet on site and apparently part of his brain leaked out... He ended up being severely mentally and physically disabled. Thankfully the accident happened on the way to work, because in my country work comp pays. So care wasn't a monetary issue. The problem was, that the only place capable of taking care of him at the time were retirement homes. Since he was back to being in his teenage mindset, he was very unwilling to follow rules (because of the abuse). So the nurses locked him in his room everyday for hours at a time. It must have been late 80s, so regulations weren't as far as they're now. Today that's VERY illegal. My grandpa and his wife tried everything in his power to make them stop, but to no avail. Then one day he met a man by chance - a man, who had a child, that was also severly disabled and he had similar issues. They bonded over their experience and hatched an idea. They bought some land for cheap and with the help of lots of charities and government funds, they built a home for young, disabled people. By this point the price of beef must have already plummeted and my grandpa was forced to close his farm. My mom said, that he was crying. This had been his life. I honestly don't know, what he did afterwards for work, but he must have poured his all into this new home for his son. He is a very active member there. My uncle died this year from cancer. My uncle would always remember my mom, but he couldn't make new memories. He never knew my dad or us kids. He'd understand for a while after he was told, but he'd forget after a few hours. So my uncle never knew how much he truly meant to his parents after all. He would only remember the neglect not how much his parents ended up fighting for him. My mom became a Christian many years later as well and I recently learned, that she still struggles to understand why. I don't really get it either, but I felt so much relief, when my mom told me, that he'd became a Christian mere weeks before. I want to meet my uncle in heaven one day. The way he was meant to be. I'm in no particular rush, but I look forward to it.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one reading this story who IMMEDIATELY figured the person who blew through the stop sign was part of the cult...if not his own family. I really thought I may have just seen too many horror movies but the more I read the more that adds up; “Only the greatest suffering could cause redemption” line especially - though I can’t imagine anyone EVER wishing that on someone they “love”. People truly suck. Overall though it’s amazing Justin is (relatively) ok after all this. All I can think is...if you had to choose one person to be your only family forever, then Rae is sure as hell a solid choice!!!
