When I was still in school, we went with our social studies teacher. A day not in school was always a great day but other than that, I have to admit its kinda dull. Don't expect anything judge judy-ish :D Maybe that's just german courts since they're pretty well mannored which is also expected from the audience.

in the US unless the judge seals the court due to sensitivity of the case(terrorism, mafia minors etc.) all courts are open so it’s not that different…heck, in New York City they have a tourists who come to watch the evening session’s hearings: the famous night court

As a fountain pen username, I know that PENS IN DANGER feeling all to well and after losing/having stolen about £70 worth of pen one day, that feeling only got stronger. My pens are like my 'children'

Re the stripper story: my friend put herself through law school working as a nearly nude showgirl in Las Vegas. No one knew what she did for a living. She didn't try to hide it, just never talked about it. She had a straight A average, was active in several student organizations. She worked Friday through Sunday. She had rehearsals on Wednesdays. Graduated with honors, debt free. Passed the bar on first try. She approached her situation evaluating what she could legally do that required the least time and paid the most. A showgirl worked about 25 hrs a week incl rehearsals, and she was paid quite well. I've also known several single moms who worked as exotic dancers over going on welfare. One lady always wore a big black wig, extreme eye makeup, and refused to remove her pasties or bikini bottom, and refused "private" dances in the platinum lounge. Her boss constantly told her she had to start stripping completely, and do private lap dances. She told him if he forced the issue, she'd quit. She made more tips than the other girls. Her boss gave her the worst shifts, until the customers' demands put her back on nights. She eventually got a great job in IT (her field) and her 3 kids are all in college. They know her history, and what she had to do to protect them from their violent dad (she moved out of state) and they're all great kids. Hats off to women in tough situations who take a less-than-perfect job to make their kids safe, fed, clothed, housed. Or to women who choose exotic dancing to pay the bills because they want to. It's their choice.

The judge was even nice, or maybe just wanted to avoid more paperwork. He could have fined the mom for those outburst (contempt of court) on top of the Civil Lawsuits he was handling with those 2 parties that day. You do not interrupt german court proceedings with outbursts like that. The highest level of judges - judges for lifetime - require a Professor title to even apply too. The guy propably looked like a teacher because he *was* a teacher at the University (beforehand or in paralell - it is allowed).

I work in retail and I can’t tell you how many times I had a run in with an entitled mother. Stripping is essentially streaking in a controlled space so many find it distasteful. As for prostitution, it is notoriously associated with human trafficking. I think it's ridiculous that nudity is taboo in the U.S.. Most strippers and sex workers aren't being exploited and the ones who are could be protected if we had laws protecting them. Many sex workers are calling for legal or decriminalized prostitution so when they are abused, they can be protected by the law instead of the fear of going to jail. There is sadly a lot of trafficking in the world which is abhorrent, but the people who do sex work willingly should not be treated as second class citizens. Right now, strippers aren't eligible for the coronavirus stimulus check simply because it's considered to be an immoral profession. Many of these women are regular people - mothers, students, doctors, artists, and everything in between. They also have families to feed. It's hypocritical to be a country that embraces war and violence, yet clams up at sex.
