r/Entitledparents WTF??? Entitled Mother Kills Her Own Son! 😱

r/Entitledparents How STUPID do you have to be to ignore the advice of a medical professional? If a doctor or nurse says that a patient needs rest, then the patient needs rest! You'd have to be a moron to ignore that kind of advice! Well, unfortunately, the entitled mother in this story thinks that she knows more than a medical professional and decides to check her son out of the hospital... with tragic consequences.

    Somewhat happier update on the mother causing her son's death story: The doctor has been arrested, but entitled mom didn't get charged due to technicalities and being from a wealthy family, but her husband cannot forgive her after the truth came out and is no longer living with her. The father went to SIL's family and apologized for putting OP's Sil through everything. He wished to speak to her, but she wasn't comfortable facing him, so he left. As for SIL, the pandemic has made her regret dropping out of nursing as she couldn't sit at home and watch her friends and mentors are out there fighting the war against covid and wanted to do her part. With encouragement from OP and her family, she is re-entering nursing school and is even volunteering with vaccination efforts. She still struggles with anxiety, but she is getting therapy, and being back in medical field has been great for her self-esteem. And she is grateful for all the support from the reddit thread. So while entitled mom isn't in jail, at least she doesn't have her husband and she failed in permanently crushing SIL's career and dreams. It's a bittersweet end with more emphasis on the sweet now.

Hope she is fine and happy and I wish I could be selfish and hug her, but I am just a rando on the internet XD As for the mother.... Yeah, she didn't get punished, but knowing her child died because of her entitlement is the kind of ghost who isn't leaving, doesn't matter how insensible she is

    Culpable homicide to be exact. I feel terrible for the kid. I'm appalled some people prioritize medals and trophies over children but I've seen it happen way too many times. It's horrifying how kids like that are stuck with their families, especially in countries like India, where academic excellence and 'honour' trumps everything. We can see that the lady has no guilt as she lied to her husband about it. She's not ready to face consequences for her actions and take responsibility but she fully intended to use OP's SIL as a scapegoat. Not only is she a horrible mother, she's also sort of an accessory by wilfully concealing facts.

  • @SalahEddineH

    @SalahEddineH

    The first part can ALMOST be understandable. Humans totally suck at evaluating risks. And while a parent should, by default, be overly cautious when it comes to their child's health, overbearing parents trying to push their kids to excellence to compensate for their own failure often get tunnel vision. My own parents almost sent me school while my appendix was bursting. They weren't heartless, they knew I had an exam, and they genuinely thought I was having a regular stomachache for some benign reason, and didn't want me to miss an exam for something benign. They had no idea I was in actual danger. (They realized I could barely walk, before I reached the front door, and decided to take me to the ER instead) At first, it was a regular story of a pushy entitled mother, with tragic consequences, due to her stupidity and entitled attitude. But what makes it heartless is the complete lack of remorse and instead deflecting the responsibility onto the person who tried to keep you from sending your child to die! And the freaking Doctor! Covering his own ass by throwing the nurse under the bus, intimidating a witness and telling the nurse that everything will be fine, while he was screwing her over! That dude should be in jail! The cover up is even worse than the malpractice. This is why it's important to keep records of every conversation, and have a phone call recorder app by default. Especially when talking with your supervisors. This way they can't turn around and say you were acting on your own. How the hell could that doctor sleep at night knowing that not only a child was dead because he failed to keep him monitored, but that a young nurse trainee is on her way to prison for doing what you told her to do! The amount of ass-covering in this story makes my blood boil.

    When the story got to the part where the school found her to be negligent, I knew it wouldn't have ended there. Some people like to just avoid further troubles, but it's very important to clear one's name in these situations. I mean, someone literally died. But no, I don't think the training nurse would have gone to jail since she's only in training. Her decisions would not have been professional decisions and she's not held to the same standards held against a working doctor. If she would be sent to jail, then the janitor could also have been sent to jail as he didn't stop it, and he was just as qualified as the nurse-in-training was.

  • @AuntLoopy123

    @AuntLoopy123

    I disagree. He always takes his fiancee's side, over his mother's. The only relationship that woman is ruining is her own relationship with her son. And her mother/mother-in-law, whose ring she threw away. Possibly her husband, because if he's smart, he's becoming more and more disgusted with her, as her behavior continues. But the boyfriend/fiance is strongly supporting the OP, and chosing her over his mother. I think their relationship is going to come out even stronger, because he has proved that he prioritizes her, and that he has her back and will protect her, and not make her knuckle under to his family, simply because they are his family. As they say on JustNoMIL, when the son takes the mother's side, you don't have a Mother-in-law problem; you have a husband problem. Fortunately, this OP does not have a husband problem. And if it continues, he's likely to go No Contact, so she won't have a mother-in-law problem, either. I do, however, feel bad for the man, who has had to deal with that woman all his life. Even if he decides to cut her off, that is a real pain. It takes a LOT of courage to cut off an abusive parent. It's shocking, and they will fight it, and the flying monkeys will fight it, and strangers will tell you that "It's faaaaaaaamilyyyyyyyyy" and that you are wrong, without knowing a thing she has done to deserve being cut off. Yeah. It's hard. But I do believe this guy has the guts to do it, if necessary.

    @@AuntLoopy123 Yes to all of this. I cut my dad out of my life because he was abusive and every screechowl came at me with the whole "he's ffffaaaammmiiillyyy!!" Bullshit. His mother was like this dude's mother in a lot of ways, but with a distinct sadistic streak and made life hell for everyone who ever met her and the cycle of abuse passed on to her kids and to some of my cousins as well. Several of us have drawn our lines in the sand and cut ourselves off from the rot in the family. It's tough, but you have to put you and your family's well being first with toxic people.

    That one with the nursing student broke my heart. When I was diagnosed with diabetes my nurse sat with me the entire first night in the hospital. This was 1982 and I was panicked, hyperventilating and couldn't sleep. She sat there and held my hand, had the paper bag for the hyperventilation until I finally fell asleep. I saw a number of years later in a local diner and walked up to her and asked if she remembered me. And she did. It had to be 10-15 years. I gave her a huge hug and thanked her as I wasn't able to those years earlier. I went up to pay my bill and decide to pay for her table as a small thank you. To nurses everywhere, thank you for what you do. I'm not religious but the only thing that comes to mind is they are angels of mercy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

And im completely furious that the childs mother, the only person expected to protect the child more than the doctor willingly put him in that situation and tried to blame someone else for her own incompetence as a mother. the only reason her child is not alive right now is entirely her own fault, and she has nobody to blame for that but herself

    The first mother in law story made me think of my own boyfriend's mother. She's generally a kind and compassionate woman, but sometimes she gets angry over the smallest things. They only have one bathroom, so there was one time where I said "oh, I don't take long showers. I won't be long", and apparently this made her so angry that she almost freaked out at me (I heard this from my bf later). I don't remember what led up to my comment, but I was honestly stunned that something like that could set her off. Thankfully, she's very kind most of the time, and nowhere NEAR the level of evil that that mother was at.

    so instinctively rolled my eyes when that woman started insulting polish people. I'm a polish person myself who lives in England and have heard those types of things many times. I'm surprised she didn't say "all you do is steal our jobs" since that seems to be quite a common thing to say
