I like how even though you played around and did a lot of freestyle work, it all came together beautifully because you took the time to cut and apply the binding carefully, with good technique. The devil is in the details! I just finished a jacket using fusible cotton batting, it made the quilting so much easier. But on my next one i will use your idea and try using cotton fleece but i will spray on temporary adhesive to make it easier to control the stretchy fleece when i quilt. The cotton will make the jacket more drapey and soft than when using batting. Thank you for your good demonstration!

If you reverse the sweatshirt so that the fuzzy side is against the back of the blicks, you will have a warmer jacjet plus you don't need to line it.

@@adoptedscot you'll love the effect ...I'm getting ready to construct another jacket...it's a wonderful way to use a sweatshirt that no longer is nice to wear but recycling it into a quilted garment is a win/win situation.

@@dorothydishman4664 Thank you Dorothy. As you’ve done this jacket before did you have a lot of blocks left over. I’ve made them as per instructions but have a lot of the smaller blocks left I.e. only need one large block to almost cover a sleeve. Wondering if I’ve done something totally wrong?

@@adoptedscot I've made several real, all different ways including one piece of fabric from Australia that I just couldn't bear to cut into smaller pieces. Also, one was of 1" pieces resulting in the postage stamp look...no two pieces were the same & I blocked them into color waves somewhat like an ombre effect. My best advice is to fit the sweatshirt to you before adding blocks. After fitting, I cut into separate pieces like sleeves, backing, fronts. If matching design from piece to piece, lie them next to each other with notches to help match. After placing blocks , then I quilt each piece before assembling the garment. Usually I serge or overcast seams...sometimes I sew bias tape on seams to make a smooth inside. Tske your time and think it thru..."measure twice, cut once" ..always saves time and frustration. No rules as to left over blocks...partials are always effective. Good luck.

@@dorothydishman4664 Thank you so much. Funnily enough I bought a small piece of fabric in Australia when I was there earlier this year and have used it as the main squares of the big blocks. It was based on an aboriginal design so has plenty of different colours in it. I’m very much a novice when it comes to things like this - hence me following the pattern ( or at least trying to) - so all your tips are very much appreciated.

Beautiful jackets Edyta and so designer one off's. I love making something different from the norm and as i am never in fashion anyway, why not. Why walk around as if you are rolling off factory floors all the same, when you can make yourself be unique. I bought in Turkey two leather jackets this shape with beautiful leaves embroidered over it in applique. They were both different and it meant that my mum could have something on that wasn't too young looking as normal leather jackets are, but she looked stunning in it. Thank you flower for sharing your stunning pieces of art with us.
