Quigley Motors 4x4 Van Convertion Factory Tour With VP Of Engineering Tod Quigley

Quigley motor company has been converting two wheel drive vans into true 4X4 vehicles for over 50 years. During that time, they've established themselves as one of the top brands for such conversions. I was curious to see how a van gets transformed, so I hoped on a plane, flew to the East Coast, and got an exclusive factory tour from Todd Quigley.

It's only the UK that uses right hand drive vehicles. I think the reason why people would use an American company is that there isn't the market and the businesses in the UK NZ and Australia that really do this. The 4x4 sprinter is rarely seen or used. Most vans/motor homes are on road only. I think people will be slow to catch on to the benefits of a 4wd van but when they do I assume the manufacturers will be ready as they would of been studying American vans. I don't if companies like sportsmobile have a present in UK NZ or Australia and ora right hand option but they could bring a lot of business to NZ and Australia with the UK to lesser extent.

Impressive facility. They've been in business for over 40 yrs. They are by far the most complicated conversion company out there and also not the best. Used to be a horror show to get one there conversions serviced. I commend them on converting the Transits but the Transit is a piece of junk. Dont know hwy people buy them. The Sportsmobile is a much better conversion (Ford E-Series)

Agree about transit...but who else has this 4x4 reputation? Is service still issue?

Advanced 4wd in Utah. They've been in business as long as Quigley. They're better in some ways and worse in others. Quadvan in Oregon is ok. Other conversions that are better (Ford): Ujointoffroad & swc4x4

Also I dont think service is as much an issue anymore since they now use a Ford axle. When Todd says the Ford axle doesnt fit right in the vans hes kind of lying. It actually fits pefrectly. They only mod I see that they do is cut off the track bar mount (a Ford engineering brain fart) and put their own mount on and their own track bar. Which is a very good idea. Ford puts a ball joint on the axle end of the track bar instead of a solid bushing. Anyone who owns a 2005 & newer F250-550 has experienced the front end wander and even death wobble. IDK why Ford hasn't changed this issue yet. Quigley also still used their torque arms instead of the Ford radius arms. And thats why they ride like shit. The torque arms are waaaay to short. The suspension doesn't travel enough and it constantly bottoms out. But they use these torque arms because it really wouldn't be a Quigley if all they did was replace the track bar.
