Quickly Replacing Parking Sensors on a Saab 9-5 (DIY) - Trionic Seven

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We replace a parking sensor on a 2009 Saab 9-5 2.3t Biopower Griffin. This fixes the "Park Assist Failure" message in the SID. These instructions apply to all 2006-2010 Saab 9-5 models. No need to remove the bumper!

Thank you for the instructions! The procedure was successfully completed on my 9-5 :) One more tip: When you go around with the screwdriver, locate those 3 clips, then press the screwdriver against them and they'll pop right out without breaking.

You can actually identity the faulty sensor by asking a friend to help by switching the ignition to On while you put your cellphone on audio record and put the microphone close to the sensor. Repeat this for all sensor. If the sensor is okay you will hear a clicking-noise. If the sensor is faulty you won't. This helped me locating two dead sensors on my 9-5 2007. Thanks for the guide on how to change them!

Welcome back! Oddly enough, I had the same parking sensor fail on my 2000 9-5 Aero HOT estate a couple of months ago, which I successfully replaced with a pattern part from eBay. I'm glad that I have a Tech 2 of my own, which made diagnosing the failed sensor an easy job. I'm also glad that the Haynes workshop manual for the 9-5 shows you how to remove and refit the sensors fitted to the earlier cars.

Thanks. Well, have the park assistant failure here also on a Saab 9-5 2007 Automatic. Had a helper with me so we did the ticking sound recording test. Yes, the method works. Found that sensor #2 on left side was silent, the others ticked for a second when putting gear into reverse. Was planning on replacing all four at the same time since these sensors do not seem to last more than then years.Had same issue on my previous 9-5. Bought after market sensors, painted them into color. Will wait for warmer weather before I replace them.

You can actually hear which sensors that’s broken, at least on my 9-3 from 2011. It sounds like a silly way, but actually works! With good ears I suppose you can hear it by having your ears against every sensor. But here we go: Turn on the ignition, and put in reverse. Use your mobile phone and record while you go through every sensor. Then you play the video and turn the volume up! For me three of four sensor made a “ticking” sound... but not the fourth... Did not know exactly how to change it, so thanks for the video! :)

This is true for SAAB 9-5 2007 as well. I did exactly this and out of 3/4 sensor I could here the ticking sound but on one (the failed one) there was no ticking.

One suggestion - I coat any bolts etc. I take out in Waxoyl after cleaning, and then put them back - then easier if a next time, generally looks better and, where through metal bits, helps keep the dread corrosion at bay. I’m gonna sell my daily of almost 2 years due to financial reasons, and do miss my old Aero. Looking at an 07-09 9-5 with the 1.9 TiD or the 2.0t BioPower. How has the car treated you over the term of the ownership? Do want to be back in a Saab after 3 years since the last time :) Thanks for the reply, and understand if you can’t reply right away :) Have a good summer, Jontahan :) Sorry in advance if I wrote your name wrong 😅

Great video as usual, thanks. But ticking noise exists, you have to work with friend to check it out. One of you turn the key to ON position and second person recording noise on smartphone in the same time. Then just play the record very loud. It's characteristic fast "tick tick tick tick" sound during about 2 sec. It's confirmed on 9-5 MY 2009 Estate.

I tried doing this technique shown and it disintegrated. Luckily it’s black and the holder is black so I can deal with it. Buy the holders new. They are like $8 USD

Man,i've been looking into Saabs a lot,but not knowing anything about their maintenance and parts cost keeps me away from buying one.

Buy one, you will love it 👍 I have a 9-5 2.0t with 320k km and still going strong. They are safe, very confortable and different :)

Depends on where you're located. Here in Sweden every mechanic knows how to work on a Saab. In other places it can be hard to find someone who does.
