​@@guilhermef.cabral8252 Dogs seem to have similar lifespans to modern dogs in Adventure Time- their parents died when Finn was very young and there was no indication of any foul play (it was generally assumed they died of old age) And Jake regularly made references to how he was proportionally older than Finn, even though they were babies at the same time, Jake grew up a lot faster just cuz he's a dog He's basically middle aged by the time Finn is 17- honestly younger than most dogs at that comparative age, but... Yeah, Jake was never gonna have the same lifespan as a normal human.

I just hated how glass boy ruined the moment. 😒

"She is good for me. Its not her problem I got baggage." This line from the Episode/Movie left me in awe. Its such a simple line, yet it perfectly sums up the growth Marceline has gone through from projecting her own insecurities and pushing people away, to accepting her own flaws and being able to recognize and embrace positive relationships in her life. Its amazing that AT managed to send a character through such a journey and not only make it plausible but also emotionally rewarding. AT has a hand for taking complex, emotional topics and boiling them down to their core essence and then using that essence to teach - but not in a teacher/student way, but rather in "Hey, see that? Maybe thats something to reflect about, friend." And I love that. I love that a show thats still for children on some level can at the same time have so many layers of complexity to it without feeling stuffed or overbearing.

Marceline taking responsibility for her own emotional outbursts is so symbolic of her maturity that she developed across the series. At the start of the show, and in their past relationship, Marceline lashed out when she was in pain and hurt or abandoned people all the time. But then by season 7 she became conflicted because she wanted to run, yet also wanted to provide support to Bubblegum, who had been working so hard to help her. This episode is a solid conclusion to Marceline's internal battle, much better than even Stakes. SU attempted to cover this but they had 1 ep discussing this in the six years that characters were being abusive to each other because of their emotional issues.

I think Steven Universe did good at alot of points and even in some aspect towards it end, but I very much agree that it always was much more clumsy about it and never reached the ease with which AT started tackling such topics. But yeah, I love "Stakes", but if thats the last time we see them both, I enjoy Obsidian quite a bit more as a conclusion to both Marceline and Bubblegum as characters.

i like the show but man when they forget the Adventure part about show call the Adventure time . it just annoying .

You know what was a really cool detail? The fact that in Marceline's flashback when she was a kid and ran to that abandoned place sith the skelentons and the beeping light there were these cardboard boxes with drawn faces on them that she created to "make" friends, but they were more like embodiments of her thoughts and feelings, also they looked strangely alot like some other main characters...*cough, cough Finn, Jake and BMO.

Yea that’s Jakes granddaughter Bronwyn who we saw in the main series about once. Nice to see Finn adventuring somewhat still with his great niece.

Even looking back on their relationship from the earliest of episodes, like the music door they had to open with a song, the relationship had a lot of "bad ex" vibes to it, and seeing it in that light now makes a lot more sense to some of the weirder behaviors from bubblegum or marceline.

thats deliberate. rebecca sugar worked on that episode, and she went up to adam and pen, and said, "i think it would be really cool if we implied marceline and bubblegum were exes in this episode". this was before gay marriage was legal or the topic of lgbt characters was even considered in cartoons. but pen and adam were receptive, and together they wrote it into the episode.

For what I know marceline and pb weren't plan to be a couple but the animators and the staff saw the potential in them (actually they stared shipping them together) and decided to make them a cannon couple

fun fact: Obsidian is _Volcanic Glass_ , and is incredibly sharp. i know this because i bought a chunk of it one time, a while ago. its actually so sharp that it can be utilized as a scapel, since its shaper than most forms of sharpened metals.

As a person who recently rewatched Adventure Time, I can confirm that over the show’s episodes, Marceline and PB definitely grew to become a couple.

Anyone who thinks Marcie and PB's relationship is "forced" and "came out of nowhere" need to remember that for the vast majority of Adventure Time's run, LGBTQ+ relationships were NOT ALLOWED ON SCREEN. The writers did everything they could without triggering the censors until the execs finally let them actually go all the way with it once the LGBT community started to be seen more as a safe demographic to market to.

How was it rushed? They had their relationship built up for years, had a heartfelt conversation before the battle started, and they admitted their love for each other in the heat of the battle after Marcy saved PB’s life. It was a perfect culmination of years of development.

@@philly_sports1558 sorry I read your comment wrong so I'll do an actual reply here. What I mean by it being rushed is that to me, it seems a bit early for them to confess their love. Like as you said they had a heartfelt conversation before the battle starts. The way I would do it would be to have it all play out like normal until when Marcy rescues pb, in my rendition they won't kiss and confess (im saving that for a bit later) but instead hug and probably flirt. Everything else goes like normal until both shows up and swallows simon, finn, and that woman with magic mans hat (I forget her name). This is where I would out the confession since it would be like a "we're probably going to die so I'll confess now and have no regrets" moment and they brace for death. but magic man hat lady saves the day and everything plays out like normal

The mom stuff really resonated with me since my Mom was in a similar situation where she gave it her all to help me but my stupid child brain misconstrued her words and fork me up emotionally. Had a chance to talk to her about it before she passed still taking meds and working true it in therapy it is hard, but I am getting better thanks for the fan video.

Their relationship was written how straight relationships are written and I loved that. It wasn't the normal "look we have gays!!!!" storyline. It was slow subtle and not the characters whole reason for existing.

I agree. They built the tension up nicely, imo, they faced several issues together and we eventually saw both characters mature as the series progressed. Not a lot of cartoons can portray that well, esp during such a short series of episodes on Cartoon Network. I'm actually glad PB did not end up with Finn, now _that_ felt forced... I'm still a bit dismayed over the whole Flame Princess bit.

Why I'm not a big fan of live action lgbt couples, since alot of it is queerbait and pandering. What I find in the appeal of lgbt characters in animation is that a lot of people behind the scenes have actually had to fight just to get them on screen, so often the characters end up being better fleshed out and well written because of the work put in them.

@@kingsaracoon9594 I agree. I'm not LGBT, so I don't find shows about LGBT politics interesting. However, I am honestly a big fan of PB and Marcy's relationship because their gender and sexuality does not really matter in the long run. They are just written as two interesting and very different characters who grow apart but eventually learn to support eachother. They have actual character and relationship development like a lot of straight relationships. Their romantic is not about LGBT representation or politics, despite all the people who solely ship them for that reason. Their relationship is about their character growth and maturity, which is why I find them to be such interesting characters. Nobody in the show even acknowledges the fact that they are a same sex couple and they are treated just like any other relationship. If more female/female relationships were portrayed like theirs I would be way more interested in shows that include them(will never be a fan of gay male relationships in shows because I'm a straight guy but that's not relevant anyway).

I love Bubblegum and Marceline so much, and the world building in this was bomb

I just realized that AV: Obsidian is named after the material itself. That being Obsidian Glass. A volcanic glass that's incredibly fragile, but beautiful. Much like the glass kingdom as well and Marceline and PBs relationship. Glass can be broken. But a hot flame, patience and understanding can fix it.

I didn't always keep up with Adventure Time but it was definitely a DEEP show and they had amazing character development.

i think right now, no matter what your LGBT rep is, there's gonna be a bunch of people calling it "forced." it's a pretty recent phenomenon to see relationships like bubbline be unambiguously explored like this so i think folks are just gonna be skeptical because it's unfamiliar. a shame!! i think they are written so naturally, their personalities really compliment each other.

Lgbt relationships in media: well written, natural pacing and overall really healthy. People: nah obviously they forced them together to pander. it's so obvious that they just don't want any Lgbt rep anywhere. They always find a reason to complain. An Lgbt couple just appearing in a show without a whole feature length film backstory on how they got together? It's forced, they did it for the brownie points. The couple gets a good and well-detailed story. Ok now they're trying too hard and obviously pandering.

Anyone else get all emotional watching the montage of the creature and how it became a lava monster? The combo of the song is what really did it to me. I cant help but feel they are gonna pull all the emotional stuff out on us for the finn and jake episode.

This was not a force LGBT relationship, they started setting this up around season 4 One relationships that was forced was Korra and Asami

Loving Distant Lands as a whole. I'll say that BMO felt more like a filler adventure compared to Obsidian. It wasn't pointless but Obsidian was definitely a lot heavier in plot and themes. I think the third one is gonna be another chill episode about Peppermint Butler and the last is gonna be the emotional grand ending of Finn and Jake's journey.

I refreshed my memory a bit, since they brought up the t-shirt and actually explained where Bubblegum first got it. Was really cute about her wearing it as pajamas: and when she sniffs it, that sort of cemented it in my mind that they were more than just good friends, that's a deeper connection than might've been hinted at originally.

I really enjoyed the episode, especially since it revealed more about Marceline's past namely about her mom and of course the reason why PB and Marceline broke up the first time and all that rot.

I had hoped since it was hbo they would be able to show what actually happened to her. We didn't even see her die! Just marcaline going off on her own. And man would it have been so gut wrenching and powerful if marcaline had been at her side when she had succumbed to whatever was wrong with her.

I love Marceline and PB but I've got to admit : I didn't see their romance coming in the end of the series and it really surprised me. I don't think it was "forced" but to me it wasn't obvious...

admittedly i haven't been able to watch the whole show but from the first half or so i did watch it was shown that they were romantic in the past and that they still were good friends to a degree so form me it wasn't shocking i just thought that they were just going to stay friends but i like it either way

Considering the series' shift around in terms of story or filler content, I can forgive people for that. Heck, I think I only really looked back to consider that relationship as romantic after I heard fans bring it up and was more confused than skeptical, the series was always unconventional

I have to say I did scream in my head 'holy blep' several times when I saw this posted. I watched the two episodes yesterday and loved it. I've always been a big fan of Marceline and Bubblegum. Why do people think the relationship between the two were rushed (or whatever)? Their storyline was built up well in the orginal series. The Marceline and her mom scenes made me sad. Obsidian is the best episode of any show I've seen, and no one call tell me otherwise. Have a good day to whoever is reading this.

After Rebecca sugar made the song "I'm just your Problem" from Marceline about bubble gum she confirmed it was about them being ex lovers. It was head cannon in the writers heads for a long time and there is little hints and blushes and suggestions especially in the Door Master episode.

As a person who remembers watching the first episode when it first aired, I have to say it has been a ride. To see Adventure Time move onto greener pastures, but continuing to have the same essence and spirit the original had brings out the child in me even years later. What time is it? Adventure time.

They were always intended to have been a couple since the very beginning. They had to be subtle about it until the end because of the network

I actually really loved how we got to finally see how PB and Marcy broke up; we started way back in “What Was Missing?” with the first sign of their baggage, then all the buildup until the big reveal in “Come Along With Me”, and now we go right back to the beginning and we’ve come full circle. That is really cool.

While i understand the whole "forced pandering complaint", Marceline and Bubblegum's relationship was built since season 3, that's over half the series for development, you can't really call it forced.

The show's creator even said that they dated in the past, but since same sex relationships are illegal in some countries, the show never overtly expressed it because it was still a good story that every person deserved to watch regardless of the oppressive, bigoted regimes of their home countries. It's not forced if it was written into cannon and just couldn't be explicitly discussed due to fears of being banned in other countries.

Nah there's no way they were pandering. Their relationship has been hinted at for like 4 or 5 seasons.

That's not true at all, there will be in total 4 Distant Lands specials, and the last one will focus exclusively on Finn and Jake. Obsidian is the second one, and the next special which will focus on Peppermint Butler and more worldbuilding on some of the more iconic (but wasn't all that explored) locations of the show.

@@HeronNobody I disagree. The finale actually showed us how much he's grown, by not using any sword or attempting to do any kind of violence, and even trying to stop a war from happening. That is a complete 180 on his character from the earlier seasons, and that was the final nail in his development in the show. From a violence lover to a complete pacifist by the end. I loved what they did with him in the finale, but that's just me i guess. That said, i can't wait for his and Jake's return on Distant Lands, i missed them so much.

@@HeronNobody not really, if anything, the finale solidified Finn's growth as a character, all the way back in season 1 when Finn was still 12, he whould grabed his sword went straight to war no question, but Finn has grown alot since then and has seen the pattern that all the war and fighting will just tear the world apart like it did a thousand years earlier, Finn was the one who struck a piece between the Candy Kingdom and Gumbaldia

The reason why bubbline is considered ‘rushed’ by some people is because it was being censored, they weren’t pandering to the audience. There is a difference.

Has Saberspark ever considered reviewing indie animations? Cause I feel animators like Drue Langois (creator of Dudes of Hazmat, Staying positive in the Apocalypse), The Minute Hour etc. need much more attention for their great (and mostly weird) works.

This is not a forced relationship it was always their I love it

Adventure Time is one of my absolute favorite shows so I am happy to still being able to see new things in this universe

I was so impressed with the emotional depth in this episode; Marcy's childhood felt real and it makes rewatching the main series even more satisfying. I have some theories about how her parents met, but they're kind of dark.

The obsidian title could also be that another name for it is "volcanic glass" because of how smooth and shiny it is. And they did go to the glass kingdom so 🤷‍♀️

I refreshed myself, the finale is really weird in, similar to MLP FIM's finale, it takes a massive timeskip so that seemingly everyone is dead (even Marceline somehow) and some kids discover a hideout

Either way, Finn and Jake in that timeskip are dead and it looks like the two finding the treehouse are literally Finn and Jake's new lives. ( See the episode about Finn just being one of many incarnations of a chain of reincarnations, as is Jake. )

I know vampires in AT are technically different, though I think they do follow some tropes And Bubblegum is weirder, though I rarely recall her being in that kind of danger beyond a few instances, like when she was temporarily 13 years old in appearance post Lich battle

We are also yet to be able to be together, too, because of her possibly "binding" "marriage" that looks in every way, on the surface, to be failing and yet, still.

There were hints about Marceline and Bubblegum back in like 2012. The voice actress even confirmed it at one point. Years before the finale. It wasn't thrown in at the last minute

He didn't recognize Bronwyn. "I'm pretty sure that's one of Jake's granddaughters." She's Kim Kil Whan's daughter. Jake's granddaughter.

The Obsidian episode is a step up from the BMO episode, I look forward to the next episode on HBO MAX.

I liked the bunny girl most about the BMO episode. BMO just feels a bit out of touch with reality for me to really like him In Obsidian the whole flashbacks appearing from time to time felt a bit off. It would have still felt forced to put the entire flashback at the start of the episode because it'd feel like the entire episode *was* about Marceline finding her mother's message

I felt the same way with PB and Marcy, I welcomed they’re development throughout the series. It didn’t feel forced or anything

This is my favorite episode. I thought it was so good! This episode didbt feel forced to me and I really love how they actually listened to the fans and showed us what we wanted to see, like Marcy's mom and their backstory as a couple

If you watch old Adventure Time episodes you can see the connection between Marcaline and Bubblegum some episodes make it really obvias🤣
