    Bard's mission is different from what the Pop trolls did. Pop trolls were stealing aspects from other genres and absorb all of music into them without giving credit to the roots; Barb just wanted Rock to be the only music. Pop trolls were appropriating, Rock trolls were forcing assimilation.

    I have to politely disagree with you on the way branch acts thing. Yes he did become happy in the first film and him nagging along the way did fit his character in this one and the 1st one. If branch was like poppy or if he just didn't seem cautious or naggy that would be very out of character for him. I think some people forget that branch was unhappy for 20 plus years so for him to be all happy and go lucky in the second film wouldn't make much sense. To me it just doesn't seem right for branch to be like the other pop trolls when he lived in isolation for most his life, it's refreshing to see a pop troll not thinking everyone is trustworthy or everything is gonna be ok.

    I completely agree, also he DID come a long way from the first movie. He’s fine with singing now, he seems a bit happier. He also seems more aware of when he insults people. And it’s really refreshing and funny at times to see a troll who’s a bit different but still kindhearted. He has come a long way

    Indeed, in the holiday mini movie he literally says he’s new to this whole happiness thing, so it’s very accurate I think. Like you said, 20 years is a long ass time, you have developed into who you are, and have patterns after that much time. It’ll take time to heal. If anything I think it would have been completely off if Branch was just suddenly like everyone else. Especially in the movie about how everyone’s different and that’s okay

    Watching the movie, the Rock trolls weren’t really portrayed as “evil”. If anything their queen, Barb, was mostly misguided in her attempt to unite the other trolls, cause she felt rock was the better music, and was chaotic in her actions. Other than that, they quickly realized their mistake and come around to allying with the other trolls. Poppy was almost as bad as Barb, cause she was being forceful with her pop music with the country trolls, and wanted to also unite the trolls under the same music, not understanding the importance of their differences (at first). It’s a case of the protagonist and the antagonist not being so different and both learning the same lesson.

    You know what would of been really cool if Queen Bard ended up kidnapping Branch and Poppy and we found out the Branch is a rock and roll troll. Or as they went along on their journey we find out Branch is a troll of all music. Which to me plot wise just makes a lot more sense.

  • @pokaay3163

    @pokaay3163

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sure, except in the first movie we already see that the reason why Branch is so different from the other pop trolls is because he underwent a great trauma when he was young related to music, which shut him out of the world and made him isolate himself from everyone. If they just threw in “and he was a rock troll, too” or something like that then it wouldn’t add much to him, because it’s not like he’d have grown up in any other kingdom to make him so different and reluctant to open up to pop music. It might even be confusing, as we clearly see him as a young troll embracing the pop culture and being as happy-go-lucky as the other trolls.

    That would be awesome!! It really looks like he liked all the types of musics in the film, he don't critiqued the Jazz part, he was born in Pop Village, he was the first Troll who liked the country music (except for the country musics), he danced kpop and reaggeton with a smile like he was liking it, and probably he liked the Rock or would like the classical music (also he knows how to play a guitar)

  • @pipedream2556

    @pipedream2556

    I'm torn bc there's both ways this would enhance the film and ways it would detract he seemed a model pop troll before he lost his grandma, which makes it strange that the other Trolls were able to stay peppy and colourful throughout being eaten alive and having their home endangered by the kidnapping of some of their own and stuff. It took absolute rock bottom for Poppy to get depressed and seeing her colourless to grey out the others, at which point Branch was the one able to perk them all up again even while still being gray himself like he had been since childhood. So he's definitely a pop troll, he's colourless when he's unhappy, but if the film had made more about him being a troll who wasn't limited to one emotion and thus had the best perspective of all to appreciate all kinds of music, this could have gone from good to great, you know? Bc as it is... Well, I don't think I'm the only person who feels like its a bit hypocritical how Poppy seemed to only learn anything from this in words: in action, pop dominated that unity song, happiness was still the 'right' thing to make people feel etc Wouldn't it have been a much better demonstration of the message if they proved all genres were capable of different emotions? That there can be sad pop songs and angry country and happy rock etc, and it could be started by Branch - when he brought back colour by singing to Poppy in the first film it wasn't exactly a bright peppy song, he's capable of good music that's not extremely happy like the other pop trolls

I remember when I was a kid(mabye like 10) I was at the cinema with my mother, and while we were walking I suddently saw a group of death metal fans, dressed up and everything. And they were SCREAMING, I was mortified. And not that long ago i was at a "Russe" party, and some guy was dressed up as a pretty well known death metal singer, and he was vomiting everywhere, he was both drunk, high and beat up. It would've been hilarious if they included death metal.

    I think one of the things that I liked more in this movie, was when Barb was like "You want to be best friends?! Friendship takes time and mutual trust!". Also I liked the dance off. I thought it looked cool. My biggest complaint though is probably the covers, the movie would have been so much better if all songs were originals. Also I cringed really hard in the pop medley scene. Also also, the hammer time reference seemed really dated. Hasn't hammer time died like over a decade ago?

    I personally liked this film more than Frozen 2 I think it shares similar storylines, how the main protagonist realize that their ancestors did something wrong in the past, two queens, each of them have some kind of growth at the end, main male character wants to propose but can't, the movie is about uniting together etc.. But I think this one was better for the story and delivering the message For me, Frozen 2 was a mess, the story was everywhere, don't know why Kristoff was in the film tbh, the pacing was too fast it ended up character growth was done by just singing one song I think this kind of message is a trend these days Accept the differences and live together, which I'm pretty sure it has already been done in the past for a while but it has brought up again these days But anyway, I was kinda surprised by this film because I wasn't really into it at first,but yeah the world building was amazing I really LOVED the concept

    I thought Branch had a tremendous amount of growth. The troll who wouldn't sing in the first movie is now advocating that all types of music should be saved. In fact, he was the first one to see the value in the Country trolls' type of music. Also, this was an opportunity to demonstrate how he is no longer such a recluse and in fact has leadership potential and wisdom (a good thing since he'll be king if he marries Poppy), in convincing the two rival bounty hunter teams to help him. He has learned to let himself be vulnerable, and honest about how he feels not only with Poppy, but with someone like Hickory, of whom he was jealous. He has learned sensitivity and people skills, like when he realized an offhand comment might have offended Hickory and sincerely apologized to him. Branch also represents someone with PTSD and/or anxiety, which is a big problem in the world these days, and how he has healed by forming meaningful connections with others. Lastly, he helped Poppy grow, their roles reversed from the first movie where she was the one inspiring him.

    This film's context within the time it came out and the weird parts of its production and release adds so much to its charm. First the McElroys meme their way into it, then the world is hit with a plague during its release so it gets sold online in this surprisingly backwards fashion. I dunno dude, I felt her not being a good listener was really in character after the first movie. Branch showed a lot of signs of having been traumatized and extremely anxious as a result in the first movie (his basement after chef kidnaps the snack pack when poppy goes to get help "who is crazy now? Me. Crazy prepared" and there are these deep scratches and scrawls on the wall of shit like FEAR and THEY'RE COMING all over the background) and that as a consequence he does not enjoy being touched, even in a friendly manner. So Poppy traps him in his bunker with the rest of the population during a hug time, mandatory physical contact with others, in order to force him to risk his life in helping her save everyone. At the same time, all the trolls she invited into his bunker without his permission are destroying his bunker and all his meticiously kept supplies which were how he was coping with his severe anxiety about the bergens attacking. With those moments from the previous movie in mind, the whole she doesn't listen arc felt really in character for her in my eyes.

    You cant compare this to what Disney did with Frozen 2 or Onward. Frozen 2 had a full theatrical release and made a ton of money. Onward pretty much crash and burned on arrival in theaters and releasing it to Disney+ was pretty much Disney cutting their losses with that film. Trolls 2 never got a chance to go to theaters where it would have easily made a mint at the box office. Universal lost a lot of money doing it this way. $20 is nothing compared to what it would have cost a family see it in theaters. Its kind of sad.

    Overall, I thought this movie was pretty okay. But there's one thing that grinds my gears so hard that I would say that I hate the movie: the way it antagonizes rock, degrades the other troll factions, and glorifies pop. It's clear that the music industry wants pop music to be the most popular since they don't need much effort or care at all to make it. But if you look at the 2018-19 charts, rock music is making a resurgence, and actually overtook pop in popularity. I mean, I might have a bias favoring rock since I'm a huge fan of classic rock, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but those bands put infinitely more effort into their music than the pop industry ever did. This is why the industry is antagonizing rock specifically; they can continue producing their cheaply made products that make money and are handicapping other genres at the same time. For example, look at Barb when she confronts the Classical Trolls. She calls their music boring and convoluted. Or how she disrespects and ignores the Country Trolls. I have not watched the movie, but I'm pretty sure Barb said some antagonizing stuff about the Funk and Techno genres, as well. Imagine all of this going to a child's head. The new generation is being brainwashed into consuming pop products and are being told to resent and reject all other genres just so the pop industry can make as much money as possible. "bUt iMaGiNe wAgOnS", you might say, "iSn'T tHe mEsSaGe oF tHe sToRy tO aCcEpT oThErS aS eQuAlS"? Yes, I would respond, but the theme was overall poorly executed for children (adults can better understand themes are capable of seeing behind the curtain), and how it conflicts with the previous film's themes of "everyone can and SHOULD be happy, like a POP Troll". In conclusion, the pop industry is antagonizing the rock genre from making a comeback while handicapping other genres, all to brainwash the new undeveloped generations into consuming their cheaply made products while rejecting any other genres. I'll take off my tin-foil hat, now. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. I would like to thank you for actually taking the time and effort for reading this. Now, to any pop enthusiasts out there, please note that I'm not calling you out; I don't want a comment-war below.

    I felt the same. Normally I find most movies drag a bit more than they used to, but this one felt so fast given how much world-building they showed. I actually wouldn't have minded it being an extra 10-15 minutes, maybe explore more of the other kingdoms or show the battles before some got captured. But, fast pace works better for me since I figure they'll do more with the other genres in the new series "Trollpalooza" (I think that's what it's called). Helps the time go by and I don't feel the need to fast forward through the movie to see something good.

    I really liked this movie, way better than the first one. I think getting rid of the Bergens really helped, and the whole musical world building is just fantastic. Barb was a really nice character (that scene where she furiously trashes a room while shouting smack about pop was awesome) and I kinda relate to her since I love rock myself. DW really are the best when it comes to making sequels.

    I did finding myself liking Barb a lot as well, and I'm not really into rock type music. Think what also sold me was how much she obviously loved her dad and let him tag along on her 'World Tour'. Always great to see positive child/parent relationships in media! Her chainsawing a couch to get her hatred of Pop music out was also hilarious and something I do internally when certain pop songs get stuck in my head. 😅

    17:38 Sure Poppy found out that the Pop Trolls tried to make the whole world Pop music, but Barb never said "I can't believe that you guys did that... YOU GUYS ARE HORRIBLE!" I understand that the character wouldn't say exactly that, but Barb never said ANYTHING along the lines of that. HECK, Barb never really found out about what the Pop trolls even did... I'm just confused on where you got the conclusion that Barb tried to say that Pop trolls are horrible because of what they did. Edit: Even when the strings were destroyed Barb never said that the Pop trolls were bad because of what they did! Sure Barb said, "Would you look at that! The Queen of Pop music destroyed all music!" Some people may say that Barb is calling Poppy bad because of destroying music When that is what Barb was doing. However, Barb wasn't trying to destroy ALL music. She was trying to make ALL music ROCK MUSIC! Poppy Straight up Destroyed all of the strings which were thought to make music Real! Queen Barb was going to keep all of the strings, but make them all rock. Even if Rock was going to be the only type of Music, There was still music left in the world.. Just a Thought... Edit 2: Realized that nobody has even LOOKED at this comment so I guess that writing this was pointless...
